This is the hand sewing that kept me busy on my flight out to my parents home in Maryland.  It sure is a long flight from California.  Having my hands busy sure makes the time go by faster.

Krazy Kattle 2 is above.  The cows were left from the original project.  The barn finished off my desired layout.  I sewed down the eyes, lashes, and nostrils on the three cows.

Krazy Kookoos is about half finished.  This is the original project.  All ten birds had their eyes sewn in place.  After the quilting a button will go in the center of the white wool.  There will be three birds left that I'll create a secondary project with.

Lastly Krazy Krones 2 had the moon, nose, and the star movement from the hat stitched.  This block was the only one left from its original project.

Sadly, Buggy Barn Quilts is closing their doors.  I'm so bummed about this.  They have a sale going on of their remaining inventory; 20 percent off discounts started last Thursday.  I grabbed three pattern books and a few 1 yard pieces of fabric.

Hope it isn't as hot as its been in San Diego since I got home on Sunday.  I hear places in Canada woke up to snow...

I'm sharing my selection so far of dark blues and the various purples that I plan for Kamikaze my Midnight Flight project.  I hope this helps select the fabrics you will use to assemble your Star Blade units for the swap.

Today is my Off Friday!  Love these lazy days that happen every two weeks.  I was up early to enjoy breakfast with DH as I wished him a wonderful day at work =^.^=....

After washing bed sheets, cleaning up the breakfast dishes, combing Koko, sewing down the sleeve and photographing Krackerjack I am heading off to Rosie's Calico Cupboard and Quilted Rose for fabric and thread.  When I get back home I will be gathering everything needed for the Buggy Barn workshop on tomorrow.  I am so looking forward to creating some crazy birds from the Bird Brain design.  I'll share my progress on Krazy Kookoos after the class.

Kranberries

I've finished entirely Kranberries.  Think it came out really nice.  The quilt was so big I had to take out my quilt rack to get a complete picture.  Fun project that used units from a block swap that I coordinated recently.  There were about 18 of us that swapped Red Strings and the Nine-Patches.  If you look close enough you'll notice both units.  Someone used a pink square in one of their Nine-Patches.  I had to include it just for something to talk about!

Bird Brain Fabrics (yet to find a "K" name)

Saturday I will be taking a workshop with Julanne Bergstrom to make the Bird Brain design from Buggy Barn.  Those who follow my blog know how much I have come to like Buggy Barn designs.  I have one more blue and one more yellow to find yet.  Notice I'm in need of names for this and the next two projects =^.^=!

Midnight Flight (yet to find a "K" name)

Bonnie Hunter designs really keep me involved and use up lots of my stash.  Midnight Flight comes from her latest book More Adventures with Leaders and Enders.  This is the swap I am just starting with about 16 others.  The swap is to make the Star Blade Units.  Just love the variety that comes with swaps.

Zuckerwatte (yet to find a "K" name)

Zuckerwatte will allow me a first time ever scalloped border.  I once did applied and did the binding for someone on their scalloped border, but never did one of my own.  I will be using units from another swap I coordinated that was neutral string blocks.  I am getting ready to visit my parents and this will be one of the projects I take with me to work on.  I have pink string blocks to make, 40 of them that will be 5".  Mom has been setting aside her extra pinks.

I am busy working on Krackerjack this week.  I have hand sewing to do.  This quilt is AWESOME!  I had a time auditioning possibilities for the binding.  I looked at six different fabrics and finally settled on this one.  Black and whites always play well with one another.

I'm very excited about the quilting going on at Kerry's Quilting!  This is Krackerjack just getting started...progress as of Wednesday...  Kerry is thinking it may be done for me to take home tomorrow.  If so I'll be binding and sleeving and labeling this weekend for certain.  This one goes into the San Diego Quilt Show with a turn in date looming.

My Smith Morning Mountain project is done.  I just love how this Bonnie Hunter design turned out. Hopefully it can get quilted and bound before October when Bonnie will be here.  I'm planning on a dark blue for the binding.  Will need to audition threads but I'm thinking something neutral will be best.

These are the blocks for the retreat location that need to be set.  They are all from the Bible Quilt blocks series that can be found at www.patternsfromhistory.com.  At the moment a straight setting is planned.  Will need to use some coping strips with these.

Next up is the San Diego Humane Society's fundraiser quilt.  This is the design we will be making by Heartstring Treasures (Patti Bartlett) called Cat and Mouse Games.  Kerry and I have been doing this now for several years.  It will be auctioned off during the annual Fur Ball held the third week of August.  Last year we made a dog theme...this year will be cats.

After Cat and Mouse Games comes my July UFO.  I sure hope Cat and Mouse Games goes together quickly.  My UFO is also with cats...surprised?  This one is by Patti Carey called Kool Kats Kwilt.  I think I'll go with the bright fabrics, but not sure about the border which in the design uses a cat stripe (#2147-67) that was produced by Northcott.  This pattern has been around for some time so finding that stripe might be impossible.  I'll make something work.

I signed up for two classes at Road to California Quilt Show.  Thursday is the first class called Batik Feathers and Friday will be the Downtown Abbey Mystery I.  I will be entering four quilts for show consideration.  I need to pen the Artist statement...the hardest part of the entry application!  Krackerjack, Kilowatts, Krossfire, and Kookaburra are what I'll try to get into the show.

I just couldn't resist this for the back of Krackerjack.  There are so many dots in the fabrics that I used in the top of the quilt...it seemed the perfect match.  I found it at Paradise Sewing in Poway on Friday.

I've been having a great time with Mom these past few days.  Have a bunch more ahead, but you know they will go so fast.  Tomorrow we will get the sewing machines humming!  I'm getting a lot of sewing projects done this year, but it's being matched with what I've needed to get them done.  I am staying ahead from my stash...

Krackerjack

Sunday brought the finish of Krackerjack.  This design by BlocLoc.com and Janna Thomas was so fun to put together.  I started the project in January at Road to California Quilt Show.  I wanted to use the suggested fabrics from Kaffe Fasset and Brandon Mably through gloriouscolor.com, BUT the fabrics didn't arrive on time for me to use them.  DH suggested using black and whites...I went for it!  I'm excited how Krackerjack turned out!  I made the project with 16 blocks mainly because I got a little carried away making the strings.  This turned into not having enough of the star and moon black/white fabric...stash to the rescue!  I found a good star and larger random dot in the black/white stash to make things work.  The zebra print is planned for the binding.  I'll admit that a mistake was made when putting this project together; you'd never know unless I brought it to your attention...  The corners of the blocks should have been 3 1/2" cut.  I somehow picked up 2 1/2" cut.  I don't think it makes any big design changes so I left it.  Frankly my stash couldn't have recovered from this and stash was pretty much all that Krackerjack was about!

I'm so excited, counting down the days now until my Mom comes to visit for a couple weeks.  Flight arrives on Thursday!  We will be having fun at the annual BAE Systems Quilters Plus Sewing Retreat the end of the month in Lakeside for one thing.  Who knows what else we will be doing...  Just spending time together will be wonderful.

Krackerjack and Kooter Klan

I am still busy working on Krackerjack.  It is Star Fusion by BlocLoc.com.  It seems to be a little difficult to find, but it is available online and maybe your local quilt shop if they are selling the fabulous rulers they manufacture.  I've started sewing each row together...notice how much the seams draw the project together?  That top row looks like something is drastically wrong!  I did run out of two fabrics while putting this project together.  I've been able to bounce back with my stash and the ability to do it is made easier since the fabrics were both black and white designs.  Besides the background that I purchased in January all of this is from my stash.  There is one more border that is predominately white that may or may not be added...we'll see.  Oh in case you are wondering that's Kooter Klan on the top right waiting for applique time.  It is a design by Karen Brow of javahousequilts.com called Newly Hatched.   

For June Sunshine Quilters BOM Sherri has coordinated a calendar quilt project.  It is designed by Jennifer Bosworth of ShabbyFabrics.com.  You can see I have July to sew up.  The doily (outside border) is accomplished with a single hole puncher.  Do you have one of these? DeLinda says she has one that I can borrow.  I hope she remembers to bring it with her tomorrow.  Sunshine meets in just over a week and I haven't even started.  Oh, Bonnie Sue...I'm finished with my Whisper Challenge...ready for the big reveal!

 

Today is the 52Quilts.com UFO Parade.  I have Koliding Krosses as my May finish.  If you have time, check out the parade Aunt Marti puts together on the first day of the month.  Aunt Marti also pulls the next month's project to work on (#10) and mine is the miniature Scrappy Star Quilt shown on the bottom right.  I have already figured out it's name!  How about Kolumbia?  It finishes at 48" square and was designed by Wendy Gilbert of Morning Star Designs.  Fabrics haven't been chosen yet, so who knows what will come out of my stash!

Konqueror

Last to share is Konqueror complete.  This project came from a workshop I took in September of last year from Joyce Weeks of geoffsmompatterns.com.  Joyce calls her design Survivors.  It seems I don't usually select feathers as a quilting design, but this time I did.  The photograph doesn't do this quilt justice.  It is in grays, blacks, purples, and a grayish neutral.  The quilting thread is purple.  You'd see it very differently if you had it in your hands.

Lot's of projects going on, but no yardage came in or left my sewing room.  Maybe next week Krackerjack will be a finish...certainly the BOM and the Whisper Challenge fabrics will take something off.  Enjoy the month of June!

Krackerjack is coming along nicely.  I have all the stars that will use done.  I will be sewing them together today.  The three on the left are together already.  After that comes the auditioning of the secondary blocks which is part of the sashing.

Purchase for Koliding Krosses and Winston Ways

First to show is my purchase for this week.  I picked these two fabrics up at Beverly's on Friday.  The blue is to be the back for Koliding Krosses and the black is the final black fabric needed for the collection of 30 blacks for Winston Ways.  I just about have all of Winston Ways cut and ready for October's Bonnie Hunter Workshop.  I'll be taking two workshops the other will be Scrap Crystals.

Krazy Krones

Krazy Krones was finished last week.  This oh so adorable Buggy Barn design is called If the Hat Fits.  I honestly think the noses look more like pickles...don't you?  The quilting which is difficult to see is perfect.  It is called Gossamer; a spider web.  Kerry's Quilting did an awesome job with it.  I'm ready for Halloween!

Konqueror

Konqueror came home with me Friday.  Kerry had it waiting for me.  The fabrics aren't the brightest, but I do like how they all work together.  I'll be attaching sleeve, binding, and label during the week.  This is a pattern by Joyce Weeks of Geoff's Mom Pattern Company called Survivors.  The quilting on it is called Shell Shock and thread is Signet Ring.

Krackerjack is keeping me busy right  now.  There is a setting that goes between the star blocks.  I have at least two more stars to assemble...depends on how many of the 2 1/2" corner of the star blocks I can get out of this fabric.  I have plenty of the white and the flower centers.  We'll just have to see.  Krackerjack is a pattern by Bloc Loc called Star Fusion.

Krazy Krones

I'm working on Krazy Krones among several other projects :).  Krazy Krones needs the swoosh between the star and the tip of the hat on each of the eight witches.  I have six of them done right now.  I'm using either gold or black pearl cotton thread depending on what background the witch has.  The gray one in the photo will probably be gold.  This project is the last of my Buggy Barn designs needing to be finished.  I have some leftover blocks from Krazy Kattle and Krazy Krones that I plan to make into small wall hangings.  I'm waiting on Julanne now for the next cute project to be instructed.

Kranberries

I have three projects to turn over to Kerry when I see her on Friday.  Kranberries (aka Talkin Turkey by Bonnie Hunter), Koliding Krosses (aka Earth and Sea by Cheryl Malkowski), and my Whisper Challenge project with Sunshine Quilters.  I will be sharing what's in that green bag after the June 10th reveal...

Design Wall Monday, January 27, 2014

I have Konqueror on my design wall today.  This is my January UFO that I'm working very hard to finish by the end of the week.  I spent most of January finishing Krossfire so now I'm paying the price :)!  All good though; having Krossfire finished makes me very happy.

These are the next blocks to be assembled, the Star Block.  Off to the right are more of the 4-Patch units that are also ready to assemble.  I am thinking I don't need a 70 x 90 quilt as the pattern calls for...perhaps I'll make it one row less both down the length and across the width.

Road to California 2014 was a great show as always.  It was made a bit more special since Kartwheels took 2nd place in the Traditional Pieced, Wall category!  I also was lucky to have Koriander Kompass entered.  Hopefully next year they accept Krossfire; at least that's where I'm aiming for it to be.

This is the result of a day of instruction with Janna Thomas' Star Fusion design.  Janna's Bloc Loc rulers are used to create the affect of the major star points made from strip sets.  It is a fun design that I will make in both the black and whites that you see in my class project and the Glorious Color fabrics that arrived a little too late for the class.

I helped Linda Ballard out as her VIQ (aka class helper).  As a thank you I was gifted a pattern.  I really like the applique on A Gaggle of Geese.  I'm not much of an applique quilter, but I do dabble a bit from time to time.  The tape and the finger lights are purchases I'm anxious to try.

Sunday Stash Report, January 26, 2014

Today ends the 2014 Road to California Quilt Show.  Kerry and I spent Tuesday and Wednesday there in Riverside, CA taking two classes.  I also was very lucky to have two quilts, Kartwheels and Koriander Kompass in the juried show.  Kartwheels brought in 2nd Place in the category Traditional Pieced, Wall.  Talk about excited!!!  We attended the Preview Night on Wednesday where I saw my Blue Ribbon...  

Let's start off with receipt of Red Strings/9-Patch Swap blocks turned in.  Mary and Debbie have done a nice job with their reds.  Mary says she has already started on the rest of the reds she'll be using for her Talking Turkey project.  I'm not as far along as Mary, but plan to make my blocks into the same Bonnie Hunter project.

Here is the damage to my stash stats this week.  First from Beverly's at the start of the week I purchased a green for the borders of Celtic Solstice that I'm calling Keltic Krest.  The other two fabrics were used in a class that I took at Road to California Quilt Show by Linda Ballard called Harmony Square.  My project will be called Kaptain Khorous and will be for Logan.  Don't you just love the pirates?

 Next up are the fabrics that were intended and will still be used for Star Fusion by Janna Thomas the other class I took at Road to California.  My project will be called Krackerjack.  The fabrics didn't arrive until after we left for the class, but I do intend to use them for the same design.  I may change the direction of the star points in the pattern.  There are several ways Janna shows and probably dozens more.  I ended up using white and black medium scale prints with good results during the Tuesday class.

Last purchase is for the back of Konqueror.  Konqueror is from the pattern called Survivor by Joyce Weeks.  I'm working real hard to get this project done by the end of January...it is my first UFO of the year with 52 Quilts.  Can't start off the year with a delinquency. 

All said and done with purchases for awhile.  Now is time to sew and finish!!  Hope you are having a great start using your fabrics in 2014.

Sunday Stash Report, January 18, 2014

Let me say this is a happy update...  It has been a great week of finishes.  

First thanks everyone who shared the oops on the Celtic Solstice pieced border unit quantities on the small size.  I would have eventually figured it out, but sure was nice that the mistake was realized before I tried to figure it all out.  I had the four units sewn making it easy to add to my borders and reattach them.  I'm going to claim the fabric from my stash even though I'm still deciding if I want the outer border to be blue or green.  I'll have a photo of my quilt, Keltic Krest, tomorrow when the decision comes to me.  Honestly I'm leaning to blue.

Let me mix things up a bit now and tell you my purchases.  This week I purchased yardage for building up stash with fabrics for Buggy Barn designs and the white for my Wednesday workshop at Road to California.  Later today I will be getting a "boy" border print and a contrasting fabric to complete the fabric requirements for Harmony Square led by Linda Ballard (the Wednesday class).  The fabrics haven't yet arrived for Star Fusion, which I'm not too happy about.  Monday will be the last opportunity for the postal person to bring the fabrics from Glorious Color (the Tuesday class).  Keeping my fingers crossed...

Happy dance going on for Krossfire's completion.  This one is a beauty!  (Jumping Jax Flash by Judy Niemeyer.)  I decided against the outer solid border.  I plan for the binding to be a mixture of the dark purples that are in the spiky border.  I have a few very large pieces of the teal that will be used for the back.  A 2011 UFO finally finished that I started working on in July 2013.  That leaves just one more Judy Niemeyer design to finish off the 2011 UFO Challenges (Briar Patch to be called Kurry).

I'll be busy the last days of January getting my 2014 January UFO done.  For this week my Sunday Stash Stats:
