My third book in a project that will take awhile to put together.  These are nearly as fun to put together as the cats in my project Kandy Katz.

Now I'm on to another 2023 UFO.  Do you remember Hanging Boo?  All cut and ready to sew!

I really like using this ruler.  The smaller size came in a Fat Quarter Shop box a few boxes ago.  I use it all the time.  Lots of use in this project for sure.

Here is where my sewing stopped for the evening.  The white on the crow, cat, and owl are the Avery label paper that I use for applique.  I am so happy to have been enlightened on the use of this medium for applique.  I will be working on the applique the next few days.

Hope your July has been good to you...on to August!  Happy quilting my friends.

Sunday Stash Report, July 30, 2023

Kianti finished during the week.  This is a little project finishing just 12 x 20.  It is from a pattern called Zebra Finch Flower Quilt Block by Suzanne's Art House. Once quilted it will get a green fabric to match the leaves for the binding. Chianti is a type of sunflower.  It is a 2023 UFO finish!

Kortland aka Apple Pie finished this week too.  This is also a smaller project finishing at 27 by 36.  It comes by way of the 2023 Liberty Box from Fat Quarter Shop.  Did you know there are 65 varieties of apples?  Cortland happens to be one of them.  I did change out the medium blue fabric that was provided.  I had other plans for the one that came as part of the "box".  It gets a back from my stash.  The fabric line less the medium blue is from Sweetwater by Moda called Stateside.  Planning on a red for the binding.

I was able to change my stash numbers a bit this week with the finish of two projects and a back for the charity project from last week.  I did a bit of cross stitching while watching TV last night.  Onto the next season of Lincoln Lawyer.  Take care my friends.

I have been struggling getting the pieces just right for the book quilt.  I purchased the template set and expected to get instructions.  Well I suppose that was to much to ask from the supplier.  Won't be purchasing any other products from the site.

Anyway, I did manage to make a pieced block, but it was tough trying to get the pieces to fit right the second time I put it together.  After much aggravation I resorted to paper piecing.  Frankly, not sure why I didn't think of this sooner!

Here are the first two blocks.  I changed the orientation of the yellow books cover (USA and girl) from the first time I sewed it down.  I still don't like it.  Perhaps I will change it again or remove it entirely.  It really doesn't need it, but I thought it would look cuter.  The first book looked real cute with the polar bear.  The instruction part that I struggled over are the pages of the book and the surrounding background.  I am giving myself a pat on the back for getting this project going in the right direction.  I don't know how many books my project will need.  Going to be fun digging through my stash to find "covers" that will work =^.^=

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Sunday Stash Report, July 23, 2023

Kicking was finished.  It is already in a box waiting to be mailed tomorrow morning.  The recipient is local so it may arrive as early as Tuesday.  Anxious for Kira to enjoy this very cute quilt.

This one made from a fun day with friends at Rosie's last weekend.  This one was several orphan blocks and fabric found that would match.  There wasn't enough of the border for all four sides.  So I improvised with the green fabric and a narrow border on either side that matched the center.  I will be using the narrow border for the binding.

Nothing from my stash was used this week.  I did a bit of cross stitching while watching the movie "Air" last night.  If you get a chance it is pretty good.  Take care my friends.

Kountry is all set.  This makes for a nice small patriotic quilt.  Now it is on to finish Kicking!

This pink should look great on it =^.^=

Wonder what I will work on next?  Until next time have a great rest of your week.

Sunday Stash Report, July 16, 2023

Stars and Stripes, aka my Kountry is in the binding phase.  I have the label on and only about a fourth of the way around.

It is a busy weekend for us.  Registration for Road to California started at 8:00 am and it took me way too long in my opinion to secure my class; 15 minutes from start to finish.  3014C - Pole Star by Heather Black is what I signed up for.  It is a Wednesday class.  Kerry will meet me in Ontario.  We have rooms at the Double Tree for two nights.

Had a very good time at Rosie's sewing Saturday away with friends.  I was able to nearly get the top of one project done with orphan blocks.  There were lots more projects done with "crumb sewing".  Think maybe I should have tried that type of sewing.

Picked up fabric for Emerald Chilhowie and Kicking.  Kerry has Emerald Chilhowie and the binding fabric.  Hopefully the Missouri Star order that is the backing will arrive soon.  It was estimated to arrive Saturday.

Rita and Don arrived after I had left for Rosie's.  They will head up to Tim's family get together in Oceanside for the Saturday event.  Too bad so many things lined up on Saturday.

A bit of a change to purchase for the two binding fabrics.

Kodkod
24" x 30"

I wanted to share two finished projects with you.  Kodkod is one that I put together from cat blocks gifted by Marilyn at the May Sunshine Quilt Guild Retreat.  She gifted us with three different blocks.  Knowing this wouldn't be enough I asked Jean and Pam if they were going to do anything with their gift.  So as it turns out they regifted them to me.  Thanks to all three of you for providing the blocks to make this cute project.  By the way, Kodkod, is truly a cat (and I didn't change it from "Cs" to "Ks"). The rare species of wild cat has the markings of a leopard and lives primarily in central and southern Chile.
Kween
16" x 32"

Kween finished as well.  This one is named after a large Sunflower and a figure called Plan Boss in the video game Plant vs Zombies.  I did take the liberty for a rename with a "Kw" instead of "Qu".  This is one of two sunflower projects that will be completed this year.  In the not too distant future you will see the coming together of Kianti.

Happy Wednesday=^.^=

Quilts arrived from Kerry today.  This one is called Kountry from the design Stars & Stripes.  It is from Fat Quarter Shop 2021 Liberty Box.  It happens to be one of my 2023 UFO projects too.  Sleeve, binding, and a label next!

This one is called Kicking from the design Stomping Ground by Wendy Sheppard.  It will be a surprise gift for Jessica for her first child, Kira.  I am anxious to get this one finished and gifted.  Kira was born the last days of May.  Full view after the binding and label are stitched on.

Another project kitted.  This is from Fat Quarter Shop 2023 Liberty Box.  I'm anxious to use the scraps from this project so it will be put together real soon.  No time to become a UFO!

Finally, another kitted project or rather two projects.  I won't share the pattern as this one will become gifts.  If these go together as quickly as I think several will be made.  Sharing of the project after gifted!

Well you can see I'm gearing up for a bunch of quick projects and a few nights at the television with DH.  Anxious to see Kerry this week and a few other activities that involve family and friends!  Hope your week is super =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, July 9, 2023

This is as much as I'll share because it is a surprise for now.  I finished it during the week.  I have the backing on order along with quilting design and thread selected.  Next weekend I will pick up the binding fabric.  It should be on the quilt table at Kerry's very soon. It finishes at 115" x 133".  Wait until you see the yardage USED from my stash!  I am thrilled!  I have been working on this project since November 2022.  It is a 2023 UFO as well.  Did I mention how thrilled I am?

This is a charity quilt that will be given likely to the Ronald McDonald House through Sunshine Quilt Guild donations.  The pattern is called Hopes and Dreams from Quiltmaker.

Can I get a drum roll?  The new Stash Report count is...

Today it is on to the outer border.  The sewn units at the top of the photo are ready to assemble with a bunch more to sew together.  Six units will be needed for each block that now includes the sashing between the rows and the inner border.  Here's a snippet from the pattern.

As done with the inner border...I saved off enough of the neutrals, purples and greens to keep some consistency with the blocks and sashing.  Working with the two sections separately the placement of fabrics will be monitored so as not to put too much of the same units together.  I am loving how Emerald Chilhowie is progressing.

I took time to cut out the sky with the proper amount of units to correct the sailboat kits made for Sunshine Quilt Guild Cuddle Quilts.  I ended up with an additional kit that will make its way to Mom.  This makes up such a cute project for a boy or a girl who likes boats.

So what's on your Design Wall today?

Sunday Stash Report, July 2, 2023

This week more progress has been made on Emerald Chilhowie.  The sashing was put together and then the rows were sewn in sections.  The sections were created because it is just too big for my design wall!  Rows one through three with their accompanying bottom sashing row made up one section.  Rows five through seven again with their accompanying bottom sashing (less Row 7 since it doesn't have a bottom sashing) make up the second section.

Then next came the inner border.  This border finishes the blocks with the triangle unit seen above in the green matched up with the appropriate block.  I saved off enough of the neutrals and oranges to keep some consistency with the blocks and sashing.  Tomorrow I hope to get to the final border.

No changes to my stash numbers this week.  The days here in San Diego are finally bringing out the sun and temperatures are usually in the mid to high 70s with a slight breeze.  Like this weather most of all =^.^=
