Design Wall Monday, April 15, 2024

Katerskill is complete =^.^=  This is yet another UFO done for this year.  It took a long time to bind this quilt as I wasn't used to much more than small quilts lately.  I am not a fan of white binding, but Katerskill has it.  I have it in my foyer to admire through Memorial Day.

The second Story Book Quilt is complete too.  Remind me that I don't like a flannel binding...please.  It will please some child with its softness, but not my fingers!  I hadn't planned to make two of these quilts; who knows there may be a third some day in the future.

Kolonization is next up.  Time for some machine sewing.  Kathy was generous with her fabrics; now it is time to work with them.  You will see this project for a couple of weeks I am certain.  The stripes will be the next to conquer for these blocks.  First I plan to get the rest of the blue parts of the flags complete.  Kolonization is the last of the 2023-2024 Sunshine UFO Challenge.  It needs to be complete by June's meeting.

 

Design Wall Monday, April 8, 2024

October Morning is complete...except I haven't thought yet of a name.  Without a name I can't make a label.  Without a label it doesn't qualify as a 2023-2024 Sunshine Quilters 2023-2024 UFO Challenge completion. :(  I am not going to make a label to satisfy this requirement.  I will just have to hold on to it until an inspiring name comes to mind.

I am working my way around Katerskill still.  It will not be done either to qualify for a UFO completion.  I am not going to make a label when I can get four labels on the expensive paper.  I do have a name though.

The Story Books Quilt and the Truck of the Month July are in a similar situation without labels.  Oh well next month I will have these to claim as complete.  Guess my valent attempts to get these done was a flop =^.^=

Sunshine Quilt Guild monthly meeting is tomorrow.  Hope to land more in the bimonthly fundraiser.  The drawing is tomorrow!  Happy sewing everyone on this Lunar Eclipse Day.

Left these two Story Book Quilt quilts for binding.  One of them is a UFO that I will want to have done before Sunshine Guild meets a week after my return from visiting family.  I tried to have Kerry ship them to me in Maryland, but they were already in the mail =^.^=.  Oh my, not sure I will get all this binding done in time.  Know that I will be giving it my best shot!

Design Wall Monday, March 18, 2024

 

Another UFO completed.  This Truck of the Month July by Erica Made is so cute.  It will fit perfectly in my kitchen nook.  I've been wanting to finish this for a long time.  It has been cut out just waiting its time under the needle.  So here it is!

I also had inspiration that Kerry would like this too.  So I made one for her in her favorite color RED.

This one is for my friend Ray.  He is into antique cars and has a yellow one.  I set this aside for his birthday that was in October. It soon will be gifted to him once quilted.  All three of these will be headed off to Kerry for her magic before the end of the week.

I won the Sunshine's Block of the Month coordinated by Hallie.  These are the blocks received with some leftover to make another block pink center block units.  I will be playing around with a complementary layout in coming days.

Both Story Book Quilt projects returned from Kerry quilted.  Look close at the cute owl pattern that was found by Anne Bright called Who's There.  Thread selected shows up the design well on the teal flannel that was also used for the backing.  There are two of these to bind when I return from my visit to parents and sister.  I also have the binding for Kilowatts to finish...Love the binding!!

I am also working to have the Baby Ducks done along with the Truck quilts and my Sunshine 2023-2024 UFO (a surprise due in May) in the mail to Kerry for quilting by Friday.  I am ready for Thursday sewing to put the sashing together and cut a backing.  Wish me luck!

My next post will be from Maryland as I travel on Saturday.  I'm excited to see parents and sister.  Perhaps my brother-in-law, niece/family, and nephew/girlfriend will be around to visit with too.  Happy Spring everyone =^.^=

In full swing this week with October Morning.  Another UFO for 2024.  Pam was so generous to offer her stash in the mostly Kim Diehl fabric line.  I wonder if Pam would consider selling me her stash of backgrounds...  Once I have finished the project back to her goes her great fabrics.

I am using the bits and pieces tucked in among the larger chunks of similar fabrics.  I don't have a name figured out for this project yet.  Appreciate any suggestions you might have.  This one won't be very large.  It will have 12 blocks that are half the size in the original design.

So for this week I am counting the Storybooks Quilts that finished.  Hope to get more in the used category and less in the purchased category.  It always works out that you have to purchase in order to use.

Design Wall Monday, February 19, 2024

 

Here's the finish of the two Story Books Quilt project.  Excited to have these done.  I'm thinking about using a darker teal for the binding...we shall see what happens.  I've got enough of the backing and probably could piece what's left of the background.  Like I said, we shall see what happens =^.^=  I'll have these off towards Arizona tomorrow.  Looking for a "library" or "fantasy" sort of quilting design.

I have finished duck #10.  On to ducks #11 and #12...but first there is a project that needs binding!  I can't share quite yet.

I did settle on a setting for my Story Books Quilt project.  I also picked up another 1/2 yard of the background so that the two of them could be finished.  I lacked three 2 1/2 inch strips.  I also picked up backing in a pale teal flannel.  I will be getting these two done, one of which is a 2024 UFO, later today.  Next up will be Kolonization sewing and October Morning cutting.

I will wait until next week to claim yardage on the two Story Books Quilt projects.  So for this week nothing used and just a little bit purchased.

Design Wall Monday, February 12, 2024

 

This is a UFO, Story Books Quilt, that I have been working on this past week.  The purchase I made on Saturday of more background fabric (top right) will allow me to finish five more "books".  I have four ready to assemble (bottom left) and one more (top left) to find "book" fabric.  These five books will finish a second Story Books Quilt project.  That is as far as the books go.

Now I am starting to play around with how to put these books together.  I had fabric enough left over from Korbett that has potential.  I felt the sashing might be to wide.

I cut it down an inch stood back and decided the sashing was too bold for the project.

Instead I decided the books should float.  I may or may not use the solid teal for an outer border.  If not an outer border definitely the binding.

When the last five block are assembled I may change them around to spread out the colors of the books between the two projects.  Perhaps I will know what to look for in my stash with the last book fabric decision.  Stay tuned...this project that turned into two is on its way to a finish =^.^=  Oh, any ideas for project names?  Enjoy your Valentine's Day.

Storybook Quilt project is back in work.  This was the project that came with templates and a not so complete set of instructions.  I was very disappointed when it arrived; made numerous attempts to get the recipe without any satisfaction.  Well I ended up making a paper pieced pattern from the few pictures that were available.  The tricky part is the pages of the book.  It is a bit tough to see them, look close =^.^=

I have 13 made now and four others cut into units.  Then there there will be one more to find back, spine, and cover fabrics.  These blocks are finishing 11 by 12.  May decide to cut the top down an inch making them square.  From my Korbett project there is enough for sashing for one of the two quilts the 18 blocks will make.

Had to purchase another half yard of the background to finish the remaining blocks.  I was pretty excited to find more of it!  The other thrill is that there will be just enough of the pages fabric to make all the books.

Tuesday is Sunshine Quilt Guild monthly meeting and I am excited to check off more UFOs done in the 2023-2024 Challenge.  I am pretty close to having two more to check off...perhaps next month!

Sunday Stash Report, August 13, 2023

Karess (aka It Takes Two) finished over the week.  This pattern is by way of  the 2022 Cupid Box that comes as a surprise purchase from Fat Quarter Shop.  Finishing at 34" square will be the perfect February wall hanging to celebrate this time of year.  This is also a 2023 UFO finish!

I also worked on more Story Books Quilt backgrounds.  Mom has quite a few "book covers" for me when I am visiting.  Hopefully I will have enough pages to fill her books.

Another project that has been on my table this week is Popstar.  A friend of mine, Sally, made the project and shared the pattern name with me.  It happens to be a free download at Fat Quarter Shop.  Fabric selection made in patriotic fabrics really brings out the "pop" in these stars.

I plan to make as many blocks as possible from the fabrics on hand.  It is looking like perhaps six blocks.  I'll finish it off with something red to match the background, probably a solid red.  With a border should come to around 40" x 60".

So this week I have some to claim as used with the finish of Karess.  Hope your week turns out wonderful.  Just a couple of weeks before my trip East.

Sunday Stash Report, August 6, 2023

Hanging Boo was completed during the week.  This is a 2023 UFO...yippee!  The pattern is one of several from Suzanne's Art House Fall Mug Rugs & More pattern.  The button eyes are just their with a pin so you can see what it will look like once quilted.  Imagine I had a small green button for the crows eye =^.^=.  A trip to Joann's brought home the black buttons.  I think Kaper sounds good for this project.

Mom says she has several fabrics that will work for my Story Book Quilt project.  These are two of the background and pages portions ready to be made into books.  I hope to get a few more done to take with me on my annual visit that is coming up real soon.

Since Kaper finished I moved on to Karess.  This one is a pattern by Fat Quarter Shop called It Takes Two.  This is one of several hearts the project has in it.  I will share progress tomorrow on my Design Wall.  I had hoped to finish this and add another "used" fabric to my Stash Report, but I just could not get it finished today.  This one is also a 2023 UFO.  Another 2023 UFO soon completed =^.^=

I was able to change my stash numbers a bit this week with the finish of Kaper.  I did a bit of cross stitching and embroidered the face of the scarecrow block of Autumn Love while watching TV.  Take care my friends.

Design Wall Monday, July 31, 2023

My third book in a project that will take awhile to put together.  These are nearly as fun to put together as the cats in my project Kandy Katz.

Now I'm on to another 2023 UFO.  Do you remember Hanging Boo?  All cut and ready to sew!

I really like using this ruler.  The smaller size came in a Fat Quarter Shop box a few boxes ago.  I use it all the time.  Lots of use in this project for sure.

Here is where my sewing stopped for the evening.  The white on the crow, cat, and owl are the Avery label paper that I use for applique.  I am so happy to have been enlightened on the use of this medium for applique.  I will be working on the applique the next few days.

I have been struggling getting the pieces just right for the book quilt.  I purchased the template set and expected to get instructions.  Well I suppose that was to much to ask from the supplier.  Won't be purchasing any other products from the site.  

Anyway, I did manage to make a pieced block, but it was tough trying to get the pieces to fit right the second time I put it together.  After much aggravation I resorted to paper piecing.  Frankly, not sure why I didn't think of this sooner!

Here are the first two blocks.  I changed the orientation of the yellow books cover (USA and girl) from the first time I sewed it down.  I still don't like it.  Perhaps I will change it again or remove it entirely.  It really doesn't need it, but I thought it would look cuter.  The first book looked real cute with the polar bear.  The instruction part that I struggled over are the pages of the book and the surrounding background.  I am giving myself a pat on the back for getting this project going in the right direction.  I don't know how many books my project will need.  Going to be fun digging through my stash to find "covers" that will work =^.^=
