Design Wall Monday, August 30, 2021

Dad is headed all the way to the century mark this week.  It seems so incredible that he continues to be in such great shape.  He loves testing his wits with this game show.  I'm so happy that I've been able to return to celebrate your birthday with you.

I've been working on Fit to Frame while visiting.  I also am sewing down the binding and label on Kringle's Koming that will be given to Greyson tomorrow.  Mom had some labels to sew in place that I did too.

Karen to the rescue with a name for Jovial...  How about Kringle's Koming?  Spell check doesn't like it, but I love it!

Here I am busy getting the binding ready.  I will be tucking this in my suitcase to work on and finish before meeting Greyson for the first time.  Tiffany will need to put it away until Christmastime when it will make more sense to have this holiday quilt about the house.

Kringle's Koming arrived on Thursday from Kerry along with this fabric that will be used in the American Quilter's project.  The American Quilter's Stitch Along is at block 10 with only two more blocks to go.

As for my stash update...another week to see the same figures.  Kofi is in full swing so I am hoping for a change soon.

Sunday Stash Report, July 25, 2021

I have this one done now.  Jovial is a free pattern by Moda.  It has 3-Dimensional trees and pinwheels.  Mine was made smaller to accommodate for the lack of more background fabric.  This size is perfect for me since it gives me the opportunity to practice the 3-Dimensional technique and create a new project.  I've yet to figure out a name for this 2021 UFO Finished project.

Next on my UFO list to do will be Kofi.  I have much of the fabrics set aside, but only one unit less the center circle done, but I'm told it can be tricky by Kerry.  Kerry took the workshop with me at Road to California.  We were learning a new technique with this one too.  I plan to set mine a bit differently than Kerry did.  The options are endless on how one can set their units.  Kerry's project is HERE.

During the week my Liberty Box arrived from Fat Quarter Shop.  I'm happy with everything that came in the box...especially the Aurifil threads.  Stars & Stripes quilt pattern are what the fabrics are intended to make that came in the mystery box.

Most of my time has been spent on Mistletoe applique so make sure you tune in on Monday so you can see where I'm at on it.

Design Wall Monday, July 19, 2021

 

Jovial is on the Design Wall.  Yes it looks like a chunk is missing in the bottom right corner, but seams between all the units is not complete.  It is likely that I won't need to cut into more of the border yardage...we shall see.  I always find it amazing how much fabric is taken up in the seams alone.

Yesterday I shared the pattern and fabrics planned for the 2021 UFO #7 project, but changed directions a bit.  I decided against the gray fabric and went for the light blue.  I also added in a second green.  The gray would have worked along with the border, but gray in a Christmas setting just didn't seem to work in my head.

My version of Jovial is smaller because I made as much as possible with the background fabric I had.  Hated to see this fabric finish from my stash.  It is from Laundry Basket Quilts and I could have gotten more, but NO!  Trying to use it up, not get more.  I can see a finish coming to post next Sunday.  YIPPEE!

The trees and pinwheels are dimensional...oh Kerry is going to love me :) when she goes to quilt it...  Yes just below the Jovial units is the backside of Mistletoe.  Mistletoe is waiting for more applique to be placed for stitching.

I have a car service and smog on Wednesday along with a lunch date on Friday.  Friday is also a big day for Matt (Greyson's dad) and Matt's dad as they go for the kidney transplant needed by Matt.  Friday is also my sister-in-laws birthday.  Keep Matt and his dad in your thoughts on Friday.  Have a wonderful week =^.^=

Wanted to get my seventh 2021 UFO started...and possibly finish before July turns into August.  Jovial is my selection from my remaining 2021 UFOs.

The postman brought some goodies this week.  More Aurifill threads and sewing machine needles.  Aurifill threads in Happy Colors was a pretty good deal through EBay.  Vintage Christmas month 8 also came ahead of month 7.  I'm so far behind it doesn't matter.

Kerry was in town over the weekend so we went to Rosie's.  I picked up a new pattern (like I really needed it) along with the binding fabric, some stash building yellows, and American Gathering fabrics that will be used when I get to the Stitch Along that is going on using these fabrics at Primitive Gatherings.  If you want to participate in the Stitch Along go to their site.  This week (and every Thursday) a block is released.  Block 6 was the last one.  All previous blocks are available still for download.  So there you have my changes to stash; not too bad.

My applique work on Mistletoe is coming along nicely.  I'm stitching the stems first which are needed for the foundational parts of the design.  Eleven down out of 32.  I can usually get to two an evening.

Now all the rest of the applique!  The same "sprig" as what is in the triangle portion of the feathered star background will be repeated around the border.  Eight "sprigs" on each side.  At the rate of the "springs" in the center block this will take four weeks if I keep the pace.  More likely I will back off a bit and work on another simpler project during this time, just to mix up techniques a bit.

I still need a "K" name for this project...any suggestions? 

I have the July UFO to get started to keep on track.  Maybe I will get Jovial started.  Mom has sent me a bunch of neutrals that I can select from.  Scraps for the trees and pinwheels shouldn't be a problem.  Only problem I can see looming is the right border to mix with all the scrappy trees and pinwheels.  I already have a back.  Maybe I'll start with finding a border fabric and work into the trees and pinwheels =^.^=

Working diligently now on Krooked Kreek, Bonnie Hunter's Grassy Creek.  I am caught up to Part 6 and so very excited about it.  My project is half the size for now.  I really hope to make it a smaller version, but we'll have to see how the design looks when the last Parts are released.  This coming Friday might be the last one...she never tells us when to expect the reveal!

This is the BOM for Sunshine Quilt Guild that went into the mail yesterday.  Susan is the coordinator for the December BOM.  She's hoping the winner might choose to make it a Quilt of Valor donation.  We were to choose a Red/White/and medium to dark Blue for the units.

A Christmas gift from my parents brought a wool pressing mat into my sewing room.  I have been interested in one of these for quite sometime now.  I haven't noticed the wool smell that some have complained about.  According to the packaging it is possible to notice the smell that eventually wears away with time.  I must not have such a sensitive nose.  It has worked out great with my first use.  It works great to hold down the seams while you press.

I sure have been doing my part in helping Small Businesses!

Rossville Quilts and Bernia from Rossville, IN is the distributer for this purchase of Braveheart and Evergreen fabrics (right).  The Quilt Basket from Bend, OR is the distributer for this purchase of Evergreen Layer Cake (left) for Mistletoe.

RebsFabStash from Moscow, ID is the distributer for this purchase of fabrics designed by Dani Mogstad for Riley Blake.  It will become the backing for either Mistletoe or Jovial that are 2021 UFOs.  My purchase was less than $5 after my October Birthday Gift Card from Kerry.

Laundry Basket Quilts from Oxnard, CA is the distributer and designer for this purchase of fabrics.  It will be part of Mistletoe.  Another very nice purchase less than $5 after my Christmas Gift Card from Kerry.  This is the only fabric that arrived in 2021 so far and it is a gift so it doesn't count as a purchase YIPPEE!

I do have two more orders coming from Laundry Basket Quilts and Fat Quarter Shop from Buda, TX that won't arrive until sometime this week that will be my first purchases of the year.  I am also building for a project called Sonnet.  I needed low volume neutral prints and the Signature Style FQ Bundle should work nicely.  I am particularly looking for low volume neutral prints that work with cinnamon.  There is still a search for these to be done in my stash yet.  Sonnet is a new project for Kerry and I that we will start sometime in 2021.  I can't say the Fat Quarter Shop purchase is meant for a project!  It is the cute Animal Crackers collection all in neutral colors that builds my stash by two yards.

Fortunately all of these purchases were received before 2021...that magical time between the last Stash Report of 2020 and the first Stash Report of 2021.  So I start the year off with zeros; already knowing next week that the last three stats below will change =^.^=

Design Wall Monday, July 27, 2020

Here is where this week's sewing has me with Nines in Blue.  I have all four block types sewn, pressed, and the all important squaring up.  Squaring up is important when you get to this size block.  Well really it is important all the time to make the work best, but with larger blocks there is more leeway for "adjustment".

Let me close with another pattern find that has to be made.  Jovial is a FREE Moda pattern.  I am pretty certain that I have seen it before and liked it then.  This time it will not get lost.  I have printed out a pattern and will start collecting Christmas scrap...that should not take long =^.^=
