Sunday Stash Report, August 18, 2024

Kampfire is finished and already with Kerry for quilting.  This is one of four projects that will be shipped to Maryland to trim up, machine binding and sleeve in place, hand stitch the binding and labels and be complete =^.^=.  Speaking of binding...all ready too.

I also finished a portion of the 2025-2026 Sunshine Opportunity Quilt.  I don't have a photo of the design to share.  Perhaps if Pam reads this she can attach a photo in the comments.  I wanted to get these to Pam (who is once again coordinating the effort) before my trip east which is just around the corner on the calendar.  These blocks finished at 4 1/2 inches.

I have to finishes to share.  These two are donations.  The first one is for the Cuddle Quilts that Sunshine supports.  The second one is Konfidence that heads tomorrow to an Israeli Support location not far from my home.

The final fabric needed for the Twist and Treat project that is in my list to sew arrived.  With the leftovers from Kampfire for the background I can get started with the cutting.  Anxious on this project.

The last to share is a purchase made from Rosie's.  The top green FQ is for Cats in Pajamas project.  I have lots of cats to make PJs for LOL.  The coordinating Christmas fabrics are just because purchases.  The first down from the FQ is the inspiration.  I'm going to look at the entire line to see if there is something else that goes with it not carried by Rosie's.

So I have purchases for Twist and Treat, Cats in Pajamas, and something Christmassy.  A completion in Kampfire.  Two feel good donations.  Finally a start to Winter Blues.  Check in on me tomorrow for progress on Winter Blues.

Design Wall Monday, August 12, 2024

Spooky and Sweet has moved along real well.  This is Week 1.  My Mom says it looks like a marshmallow instead of a ghost with a witch hat.  LOL!  I think she is right =^.^=

This is Week 2.  The top star was fun to assemble.  The bottom two are a different take with the placement of the colors.  It is a layout that I haven't worked before.  I just love the way the violet works into this project.

This is Week 3.  Another marshmallow Mom!  I will be working on assembly of Spooky and Sweet today.  Week 4 brings the project all together for either a wallhanging or a door banner.  I will be making the wallhanging.

I did take a bit of a break to machine stitch binding on two cuddle quilts.  I have the sleeve to make before Konfidence binding is machined in place.  The projects that are headed for AZ then MD to finish all have their binding prepared.  Time for a bunch of hand stitching.  I need to decide on what project to start next =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, August 11, 2024

 

This past week I was learning all about the Accuquilt cutter.  The strip dye to say precisely.  I have the 2 1/2 inch one at this time, but plan to get the 2 1/4 inch soon.  Most of my bindings are started with a 2 1/4 inch strip at this time.  When I think back to my first bindings they were a whooping 3 inches.  I still have some of those quilts and wow do they look exceptionally large =^.^=.  I got the knack and some hints from Kerry about the ends of the strips not always getting a complete cut.  It's all on placement of the fabric so that the blades touch it all.  I'll practice with the next bindings.

More of the Wine and Whiskers fabric arrived.  These as you can see are the bottles.  I think there are two more to arrive this week ahead.  All that will be left is the background.  The pattern calls for a cream, but I may go for a very pale gray.  There will be some auditioning to come for Twist and Treat.

I met up with Kerry at Rosie's on Friday where these fabrics came from.  The top two are flannel FQs.  Rosie had a FQ sale that day where I found these two for the Cats in Pajamas pattern that is in my future to make.  I plan for all the cats to have flannel pajamas...how silly, but why not?  The blue is for the binding of Konfidence and the white is a stash builder.

Sunday Stash Report, August 4, 2024

 

I joined the girls at Rosie's sewing on Friday since Pat was not attending.  So I was prepared to sew the 2024 Liberty Box projects.  I have been working to cut out a couple of projects to have ready for the unexpected opportunities to sew away from my sewing room.  Since I had cut out the main project, Sparkers, this cute tiny project was to be made with the scraps.  I found online where I could purchase two more of the star hanging bar so I made three.  I will be giving two of them as gifts.

The main project, Sparklers by Fat Quarter Shop 2024 Liberty Box, starts with a panel then adds strips an inner border, a pieced border then an outside border to match the inner border.  Of course adding an outside border makes this project larger.  I liked the look after the pieced border so this is where I stopped.  The tiny red flower in the outside border will be the binding.

Saturday brought me a package from Kerry.  Konfidence and two Sunshine charity quilts arrived.  I hope to donate Konfidence as it was intended to a synagogue in the area.  It was started in October 2023 to support the Israel invasion by Hamas.  I am hopeful that it might be raffled to gain monetary support for those who still struggle.  A darker blue will be used for its binding.  A rust and more blue will be used for the two charity quilts.

I had to find more fabric to continue Kanopy.  Etsy to my rescue =^.^=  The fabrics from various sellers started arriving Wednesday.  Sometimes the sellers include little gifts too.  The more red in the last photo is too light and will find its way to stash for another project.

I had a seller's coupon so this cute blue print along with a seller's treat came to my door too.  At the end of the week I can claim some used and some purchased.  Not a bad week...I used more than I purchased =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, July 14, 2024

 

Just enough of these fabrics to make a small charity quilt.  I had a bit of fun with the stripe border fabric.  Not the usual layout, but something a bit different.  Now to find a back.  I am thinking a blue binding will be perfect.

This design is called Chinese Coins.  It comes from a kit put together for Sunshine Quilt Guild cuddle quilts.  It was nearly done when I received it to finish up.

I have four placemats done that will be on their way soon to my niece.  She started one of them nearly ten years ago.  I finally finished up a set for her.  Each of these take four yards of fabric cut into 2 1/2 inch strips.  Certainly helped free up space in my 2 1/2 inch container.

Star of Hope is into a top less the inner and outer borders.  Need a Rosie's trip to find something that will work with one of the two fabrics I have in my stash for the inner border.  I should be able to get to this some time in the week ahead.

Design Wall Monday, July 8, 2024

 

Star of Hope piecing is finished.  Now it is time to iron the blocks and assemble the rows.  It sure looks great.  Love the design, but I won't be making another one with the secondary block anytime too soon...probably never =^.^=

I need to select one of these two light blues for the inner border.  I'm leaving towards the one on the right, but this will depend on what the darker outer border will be.  I don't have anything enough in my stash.  There is a Rosie's gathering on 7/19 so I may wait until then or maybe (since I am retired now) just take a drive there before then!  

Yep you did read correctly; I am full into Retirement Mode.  This cute T-shirt that I have worn a couple of times now is a gift from Bonnie.  Everyone loved it!

These gifts came from Kerry.  I have been wearing this bracelet nearly every day since it arrived.  It goes with just about everything.  The mug is highly appropriate don't you think?

Mom sent me these.  The arrangement is live flowers in a beautiful arrangement that is tucked inside a paper vase and wrapped with a bow.  It is on my mantel in an attempt to keep two kitties away from them.

My coworkers sent me off nicely with a cookout on the patio at work.  I was happy to have such a great group of coworkers over the 37 years and 3 months with BAE Systems.  I received retirement cards and a special gift card to Starbucks.  Lots of phone calls from family and friends today as well as several toasts this past weekend to my career that comes to an end.  Thanks to everyone who made this day special.  Life is good =^.^=

I have been able to spend time working on Star of Hope.  I am nearly done!  With only sewing the blocks together.  Goodness, I have said it before about this project.  The secondary block does make the quilt, but it has been very time consuming.  I need to find fabric enough for the inner border, which should be easy in my stash.  The hard one to find enough of will be the outer border.  Both of these fabrics will be blue.  The inner border light blue and the outer border medium to darker blue.  Anxious to have this one completely done.

Guess what I will be working on the rest of my first days of retirement...  Nothing to change my stash today.

Fabrics are holding out.  Not too many more of the secondary block.  I am about ready to add seven to my project.

These make the last ones to stitch.  It doesn't look like much, but I would say perhaps four hours to complete these...assuming that is uninterrupted time =^.^=

Design Wall Monday, June 24, 2024

 

A cute little project made from a Gina gift.  Gina and her mom hunted out the stick and it was a must use part of the project.  I like how it turned out and have a special place for it to hang.  Gina passed out this treat at the recent Sunshine Quilt Retreat.

As I mentioned yesterday I dusted off this project and took it on Saturday for a sewing party.  After getting reoriented on where I had left it; three blocks were added to the "done".  I am working on the secondary block that provides lots of interest to this otherwise simple design by Bonnie Hunter.  These blocks finish at just 6 inches.  The secondary block has 40 pieces!  I have another three ready to put together and another four ready to start the paper piecing.

This project should keep me busy for several days.  Today marks the last full week of work.  Next week being a holiday week and then retirement day on July 8th.

Sunday Stash Report, June 23, 2024

Another cross stitch block completed.  This dump truck kept me busy during binge watching Yellowstone.

This one is just starting.  You can just about make out that it is a helicopter.

Fabric has arrived to complete the yardage requirements for Sparkle Star and Sparklers.  I only need a solid off white that will be for the background.  I won't be starting this project for a little while, but I will have everything needed to complete it.

I had a great time on Saturday celebrating Jennifer's Birthday with other quilters at Rosie's.  I brought to work on Star of Hope.  I had started on this project likely over a year ago and quite frankly it took me several minutes to figure out what all my fabric groupings were about.  You will see more on this tomorrow.  I did need to pick up some dark blues and this adds to my stash numbers.  It looks like a lot, but it is only four yards.  Most of it will be used in Star of Hope.

Design Wall Monday, November 6, 2023

 

I managed to get three more of the connector block assembled.  Star of Hope has made it to the Design Wall.  You can see there are a lot of empty spots between all of the stars.  This will be on my Design Wall until I can start and finish the Little Red Truck Christmas tree skirt.

This is a photo of the skirt.  It doesn't finish as large as hoped so the plan is to add a 2 1/2" piece to the bottom of each section.  A decision will be made on whether or not it will be more of the same background or a white fabric that has Christmas words in red and green across the fabric in straight lines.  For now though the time to find fabrics in my stash and cut the pieces begins.

I will need to find something for the binding and the back.  I don't have anything that will work like I want.  The truck and tree blocks are paper pieced.  Units are all cut and it is now time to sew =^.^=  That time is of course something I am finding quite difficult to find!
