Wednesday Workings, September 25, 2024

I am excited to start another stamped cross stitch quilt.  This will be for my next great nephew that will be coming in February.  Tiffany and Matt are having another boy.  I have lots of the floss called for, but quite a bit needs to be purchased.  If I get started now I will likely have just the right amount of time to finish.

Tuesday all 12 blocks for the Transportation cross stitch quilt finished.  This one is for Grayson as he loves vehicles of all kinds.  I have begun auditioning fabric for the frame.  I really want something like what you see...to bad there isn't enough.  I love the look and will be searching for a similar fabric.

There are lots of colors in the blocks so many auditions.  I think the royal blue is a winner.  Now I just need half a yard.  The royal blue with white dot is just not enough; too bad.

I am also continuing assembly of Kondensation.  The unit on the top left is sewn together.  Pieces at the bottom are ready to assemble to the top section.  The project is ten blue blocks across and 12 down.  It will be sewn in two halves.  Going to be big and heavy moving across my sewing table.

I finished binding, sleeve, and label on Kanopy.  This project was a great way to use up scraps from Kache.  No more quilts to bind for now.  Two projects, Transportation and Kondensation, will be the next binding projects.

Wednesday Workings, September 18, 2024

I am back to my sewing room after three week visit with my family.  The weather was hot, but mostly I was indoors during the hottest part of the day.  The second of the two boxes arrived yesterday with this project.  I made three in total.  One for Kerry, my mom, and myself.  Kerry kept hers to finish the binding and sleeve so that it can be displayed on the holder pictured.  I finished my mom's and it hangs just above her sewing table.  This is mine to finish up the binding.  Because the project is so tiny to start with; the binding double sided is 1.75 inches.  Pretty tight, but I managed mom's so I know I can handle this one.

Kanopy was also in the box.  There was some major trimming to be done before the binding was sewn in place.  Binding on now and hand sewing comes next.  The label is already to be sewn down too.

Friday is a Rosie's day.  I hope to get started on assembly of Kondensation.  This is how I left it before my vacation.  Anxious to move this project along.

Sunday Stash Report, August 11, 2024

 

This past week I was learning all about the Accuquilt cutter.  The strip dye to say precisely.  I have the 2 1/2 inch one at this time, but plan to get the 2 1/4 inch soon.  Most of my bindings are started with a 2 1/4 inch strip at this time.  When I think back to my first bindings they were a whooping 3 inches.  I still have some of those quilts and wow do they look exceptionally large =^.^=.  I got the knack and some hints from Kerry about the ends of the strips not always getting a complete cut.  It's all on placement of the fabric so that the blades touch it all.  I'll practice with the next bindings.

More of the Wine and Whiskers fabric arrived.  These as you can see are the bottles.  I think there are two more to arrive this week ahead.  All that will be left is the background.  The pattern calls for a cream, but I may go for a very pale gray.  There will be some auditioning to come for Twist and Treat.

I met up with Kerry at Rosie's on Friday where these fabrics came from.  The top two are flannel FQs.  Rosie had a FQ sale that day where I found these two for the Cats in Pajamas pattern that is in my future to make.  I plan for all the cats to have flannel pajamas...how silly, but why not?  The blue is for the binding of Konfidence and the white is a stash builder.

Design Wall Monday, August 5, 2024

 

Happy to be finished with Kanopy (Flower Wall by Edyta Sitar).  This was an unexpected project made mostly from the scraps of Kache.  I made a cutting mistake which had me remove the center square that is to match the outer triangles.  I didn't have enough scraps left to recut the triangles.  I do like the result of the change in fabrics.  The back for Kanopy is from one of Sunshine's sponsors, Fantabulous Backs.  I used all of the Etsy fabrics recently purchased except one.  Yeah!  Fabric in and fabric out!

Kanopy, Kache, Sparklers (not named yet), and one other project that I will be sharing with you on Wednesday will be quilted and sent to me in Maryland to finish.  I head that way later this month to celebrate a couple of birthdays, an anniversary, and be with family.  Will need something to occupy my longer stay.

Sunday Stash Report, August 4, 2024

 

I joined the girls at Rosie's sewing on Friday since Pat was not attending.  So I was prepared to sew the 2024 Liberty Box projects.  I have been working to cut out a couple of projects to have ready for the unexpected opportunities to sew away from my sewing room.  Since I had cut out the main project, Sparkers, this cute tiny project was to be made with the scraps.  I found online where I could purchase two more of the star hanging bar so I made three.  I will be giving two of them as gifts.

The main project, Sparklers by Fat Quarter Shop 2024 Liberty Box, starts with a panel then adds strips an inner border, a pieced border then an outside border to match the inner border.  Of course adding an outside border makes this project larger.  I liked the look after the pieced border so this is where I stopped.  The tiny red flower in the outside border will be the binding.

Saturday brought me a package from Kerry.  Konfidence and two Sunshine charity quilts arrived.  I hope to donate Konfidence as it was intended to a synagogue in the area.  It was started in October 2023 to support the Israel invasion by Hamas.  I am hopeful that it might be raffled to gain monetary support for those who still struggle.  A darker blue will be used for its binding.  A rust and more blue will be used for the two charity quilts.

I had to find more fabric to continue Kanopy.  Etsy to my rescue =^.^=  The fabrics from various sellers started arriving Wednesday.  Sometimes the sellers include little gifts too.  The more red in the last photo is too light and will find its way to stash for another project.

I had a seller's coupon so this cute blue print along with a seller's treat came to my door too.  At the end of the week I can claim some used and some purchased.  Not a bad week...I used more than I purchased =^.^=

Wednesday Workings, July 31, 2024

Katch completed Monday.  This one measures 71 x 83.  It is from Sunshine November 2023 BOM Win that was coordinated by Pam.  I used all but one set of blocks.  I did make several more sets and unsewed and resewed one block using the set to accomplish it.  Very pleased how this one turned out.

Kupuna Kane completed on Sunday.  It measures 43 x 43.  It is another Sunshine BOM Win from December 2022 that was coordinated by Tanya.  I had originally thought to make the green squares black and white, but after discussing with Kerry a different color was brought up and bright green fit.  The block is called Grandma Mae's Economy Block.  Hence comes the name that has two ties to the project using the more Hawaiian fabrics and the block's name.  Kupuna Kane is defined as an elder of grandparent (grandfather) generation of Hawaiians.

Lastly, finished is this project coordinated by Hallie.  It is the last Sunshine BOM Win to stitch.  It was won from March 2024 Win.  This one has a very cute cat back and will be a donation to charity.  I love the Cats in the Moon quilting design.

This is where I sit and wait for my Etsy shipments.  My Mom says right now Kanopy is looking like a stadium with the dark middle square the stage LOL...I agree =^.^=  It will all look right when the darker strips (seating LOL) is added.

I am preparing for sewing on Friday at Rosie's.  Sparklers will be the project that day.

With Sparkler scraps this very cute Sparkle Star will be made as well.  Might not be on Friday, but scraps are being gathered for it now.

Design Wall Monday, July 29, 2024

Yes an empty Design Wall as the day started.  I was cutting the units most of the day for Flower Wall an Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts free pattern by Andover Fabrics.  I started out with a bunch of fabrics using primarily the scraps of Kache.  I added here and there and removed the fabrics where there wasn't enough to achieve the desired size; added in more and continued until there was nothing else that worked from my stash.  Then I went to Etsy!

The two bottom neutrals in the second photo were a must have.  They both come from the Secret Stash fabric line "warms".  I had to remove four of the warms and not anything in my stash large enough to fit the size.  So I looked for either the Sweet 16 line or the Secret Stash "warms" line to fill in after the small flower fabric (just before the fabrics start getting dark).  When I cut everything I had to cut; I started in on the sewing.  This is the construction of the project.

I have gotten the first few rounds done as I close this post and do a bit of binding before the night is out.  Five Etsy orders placed that hopefully will arrive next week sometime.  There is plenty to do if I get to the point where a round needs fabric I don't have yet.  May well be time to get a Cuddle Quilt sewn up.  I know I have one kit waiting for my needle.

Sunday Stash Report, July 28, 2024

Kache is done and ready for sending to Kerry.  I am thinking a thread that matches the background of the outer border will do nicely.  Before I ship this 2022 UFO off though I want to finish a couple of other projects.  There is no hurry, except to have it done...done!  There was loads of fabric left over so I have picked up from my library of patterns another one of Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basked Quilts designs.  I'll leave you in suspense until tomorrow's Design Wall Monday post =^.^=

Kottages is a very long way from complete, but a start towards 100 Houses by Rina Curran is underway.  100 houses to be sewn, sew one up and 99 houses yet to sew!  As you can see the project is paper foundation piecing.  I need to go back and count, but a quick calculation would be 13 units for this 2 1/2 inch house block.  This project is also a 2022 UFO.

Working today on what I will share with you tomorrow...Flower Wall.  Fabrics used this week are due to Kache.
