Sunday Stash Report, July 13, 2025

Kid's Kingdom is finished.  I love the way the fabrics surrounding the stitched blocks turned out.  I have a prepared striped binding waiting.  This project along with a few others will make their way to Arizona early this week.  Now that the stitching is complete I have been working on Autumn Love (more on this project tomorrow).

This is another charity project.  It uses a combination of Mom and my stash.  It really goes together quickly and uses up novelty fabrics really well.  Just 5" squares does it.  The lattice work is easy too with 1 1/2" strips.  This is the second to be made by the pattern.

Knickers is done now.  Love how this project turned out.  It started at the Sunshine Retreat in May.  The striped cat gave me a bit of a fit, but ended up great.  This is one of my 2025 UFOs.

So I'm happy to change my fabric stash in the used category.  I also didn't bring any fabric home =^.^=

Kiki is complete.  I am putting together a back for it today.  I picked up the two fabrics from Rosie's on Friday that were needed to finish it.  But that's not all the fabric purchase!  Fortunately, I can set it off by some finishes.  By the way, Kiki means in French and Japanese "double happiness".  Imagine my surprise when I went searching for possible names.

A few weeks ago I mentioned a pattern called Moonflower by Bonnie Hunter.  Well this fabric will go nicely with it not to mention that it was in the Sale Room at Rossie's.  I have a few Kim Diehl projects ahead of yet another Bonnie Hunter project even though I am already thinking about all the gray fabrics that will be used.

I also had to have another Sale Room fabric in the multi color circular print.  These three fabrics (plus another yet to be determined) will be perfect for my cross stitch project Children's Zoo.  I only have three more blocks to stitch.  The stripe was just the right one for the binding and the turquoise will be for one of the two frames that make the cross stitch stand out.

The made for charity Millie's Dresses finished too.  I have some parts and pieces left should Jean, Christy, and/or Lorna have leftovers for another similar project.

The back made with 10" squares was assembled and stitched for my Cats in Pajamas quilt.  Lots of left over cat prints made their way into this primarily gray back.  I am still undecided on a "K" name for this project.  Kids or Kiddies comes to mind, but still working on something else better.

Fat Quarters Quilt Shop delivery on Saturday brought me their 2025 Liberty Box.  The pattern called Gleaming is nice with a FQ bundle of 12 with background, border, and binding suggestions.  The last three are usually available in a Finishing Kit.  I think I pre-ordered it, but a call to them on Monday will confirm.  The Finishing Kit usually comes after receipt of the Liberty Box.  Also in the box are other Patriotic themed items that include a cooler, cutting mat, charm, and thread.

So this was one full week of sewing, shopping, and mystery.

Double Delight is an assembled top.  I will be taking it with me on Friday to Rosie's to find a cheddar for the inner border and a darker pink on pink (double pink) for an outer border.  Wish I had enough in my stash to accommodate, but no =^.^=

I used my Accuquilt 10" square to cut squares for the back of the Cats In Pajamas project.  I still have not figured out a name for this project.  Maybe "Katniss"?  Katniss is the cat featured this month in my calendar.  I like the name; how about it?

These are all the squares I plan to use.  This one should be way bigger than the top! I started the second Millie's Dresses that will be for charity.  One dress made and 15 more to go.  I am going to be trying a scalloped edge on this one.  I saw it done on a project Jennifer was working on during the retreat.  Maybe there will be more progress on this one to share with you on Wednesday Workings.  First up is putting these blocks together for Cats In Pajamas.

Still not back to the pool for aqua fit; I sure miss it while it is closed for some ceiling repairs above the pool.  So I have been walking, and walking, and walking.  It has been so humid here which is quite unusual.  Hope your week goes well.

My Cats in Pajamas is done.  I love how it turned out.  Now to cut 10" squares with my AccuQuilt and sew them together for a back.  I have already started auditioning fabrics for binding.  That striped pajama cat was difficult, but thanks to helpful suggestions the cat turned out very well.  I have not yet decided on a name if you have any suggestions...please let me know.

You might remember this one from Wednesday Workings post.  Flowers and Chocolates finished too.  I have a one piece back ready for it and the binding is already prepared.

I got this beautiful quilt back from Kerry on Saturday.  General consensus has the sashing fabric to be used for the binding.  This is Grandma Alice's work that I finished for Tiffany.  Isn't the quilting awesome?

I get to change my stash count today with the finish of two projects.  One a 2025 UFO!  Excellent =^.^=

Flowers and Chocolates was the last project I worked on at the retreat.  I have it finished today.  A one piece backing has been selected and the binding is prepared.  No name decided upon right now.  This pattern/kit comes from Fat Quarter Shop's 2025 Cupid Box.

The stripe pajama cat has had a makeover.  Jennifer suggested the green eyes and Lorna suggested the stripes on the body go horizontal.  Corrected both problems from the first try.  There is a 2" finished sashing that goes throughout with a 3" finished border.  I will be working on this tomorrow.  Looking towards a finish.  Thinking to use my lighter grays for a back; cutting them into 10" squares.  Now time to think of a name for this project.

I did get out the Millie's Dresses project.  I am auditioning the dresses/collar/belts with my background.  Seems that I have a lot of purple combinations.  I have changed some of the exchanges around a bit as well.  I plan to sew on this project at Rosie's on Friday.  Photos for sure on Sunday's Blog Post.  =^.^=

I don't have much time today for sewing.  I had aqua fit class at 9am, sorting out from the retreat, pulling together what will be going with me for Sunshine monthly tomorrow, and meeting up with Kerry while she is in town.  It has been a busy time since last Thursday and will be through the week.

I took apart the stripe kitty and hope to find the time Tuesday morning to put him back together.

Here are the 11 arranged right now with the stripe cat to go on the bottom left.  Spacers (top rows one and three, bottom rows two and four) will be placed with 2" finished sashing between the blocks and rows.  It completes with 3" finished border.  The entire project will measure 72" square.  I am so happy to have found the gray dot in the sale room at Rosie's and purchased it before Robyn and Lynn!

Tomorrow is Challenge Reveal at Sunshine.  I am looking forward to everyone's interpretation of the Idiom they choose to sew out and the project they created.  We have some very talented quilters in our group.  My post on Wednesday will show my project.  I think it might be obvious the Idiom I choose...I'll let you guess!

Happy Monday everyone =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, May 11, 2025

Wish I could be with mom today, but we did get to talk on the phone.  I also shared the call with the retreaters who know her.  It was a very nice bit of love passed on.  I'll be catching up with mom a little later.  This last day of the retreat is a bit chaotic...last minute sewing and packing up to head home.

Thursday was the first day of the retreat.  We set up our stations and began our first project.  Mine was Part 3 of Double Delight.  This part was 130 9-patch that finish at 3".  I had these cut and partially sewn when I started in on them.  I also had Part 1 and Part 2 cut, but didn't work on them.

Friday was day two and Cats in Pajamas was front and center...actually the RIGHT facing cats.  All the cats were cut beforehand, but let me tell you lots of pieces.  The first cat took some flipping the instruction pages.  Cat two wasn't quite as challenging.  By cat three no instructions were required.  There are 12 cats, six facing RIGHT and six facing LEFT.  Gina helped me decide which color cat/pajama combo should face which direction.  Marti and Debra - did you finish your cats during the QAL?  I will be working on the stripe cat; can't see the eyes and the red accent is too close to a red stripe making it appear larger than the other cat's accents.  Jennifer requested green eyes!

Saturday had me making the LEFT facing cats.  Each cat finished drew excitement from the retreaters (which I loved to hear).  Marilyn assigned a home location for a few of the cats.  Not sure how she made these revelations, but the red one (top row left) hails from Washington and the one just below from New York.  Can't remember the others.  Several wanted a tuxedo cat, but all the units were already cut.  Perhaps Marti or Debra will make a tuxedo or white cat.

The afternoon on Saturday had me making the service project, a mastectomy pillow/bag.  I knew this fabric would work well for this project.  I cut a second kit that will be sewn at a later date.  Let me know if you want the pattern.  Carol won the 14 In My Garden blocks, several won spools of thread as Bingo prizes, Doreen and Karen won Left Right Center, not sure who won the trivia game, and each of us won a door prize.

If you know how much I love a Halloween quilt; you will know how much I loved my door prize.  I am already moving my Halloween quilts on my walls every other day the Halloween week; it may need to be every day very soon.  Five of us participated in the Millie's Dresses project dress/collar/belt swap.  We did the swap (thanks Pam for coordinating) on Saturday too.  I'll share photos a bit later, but I got some fancy dresses!  Pam and Christy got a great start on putting their dresses together.

Sunday was our last day to get in some sewing.  I started in on Flowers and Chocolates project.  This didn't get to far before it was time to pack up for home.

Most of us participate in a small gift exchange.  Here is what came home with me.  Mom made my trinket to pass out, a small prayer block with a cross enclosed.  Everyone liked the idea and the poem that came along with it explaining the idea behind the prayer block.

I didn't find any projects at the two quilt shops in the area, but did purchase everything to make a bag that an expert will be sewing for me!  Hope your Mother's Day was special.  Another annual retreat is complete and I am already looking forward to next year's.

Kirilowii is ready for hand stitching.  This is a huge quilt 88 x 88.  It will take me a while to get around it!  The binding will have a surprise by any who view my project.  You will probably notice it easy enough once I show it off fully.

I worked quite some time on the sleeve.  I put as much (usually all) of leftover units into its construction along with using all the trimmed off parts of the back.  Waste not want not...

Millie's Dresses was the first project to cut into the background.  I plan to sew this at the Sunshine Retreat coming up soon.  My goal for this project will be to construct the 16 blocks.  I will want to use my Design Wall to figure out what dress (block) should go where in the layout.  I will also be working on the pieced border at Retreat and then doing the same thing with the units as the dresses figuring out where to put it in the top.

Next I tackled the background for the Cats in Pajamas.  Have I mentioned this is a 2025 UFO?  Just as I discussed layout plans with my Design Wall with Millie's Dresses; I will be doing a similar thing after the cats (blocks) are sewn at Retreat.  Placement is everything in my opinion.

I don't have a photo to share yet, but plans for the In My Garden block swap at the Retreat are formulating.  I just need to transfer designs to fabric and sew =^.^=  Maybe I will have something to share on Wednesday; definitely on Sunday.

The Sunshine Rise & Shine Boutique on Saturday was a huge success.  Shoppers are already asking if we will hold this event again.  It was lots of work, but the payoff was grand and will help towards all sorts of Guild activities.  Thanks to Lorna for letting me stay the night in her lovely home.

Now let me start some hand stitching on Kirilowii!

Karolina Krossroads (Carolina Crossroads)

Karolina Krossroads is completely finished.  I love the way it turned out.  The solid fabric last two borders were needed to calm the quilt down.  All those 1 1/2" squares made for a busy project.  I enjoyed the sewing on this one.  Carolina Crossroads is one of Bonnie Hunter's earliest mysteries.  As I have been saying there is only Double Delight to sew before I've made all of her mysteries back to 2006.

Kirilowii (Indigo Way)

Kirilowii is also a mystery from Bonnie Hunter.  Because of a mix up in the size of the back on my part (Kerry to the rescue); it arrived yesterday.  In the grand sequence of things Karolina Krossroads was sewn with many of the scraps from Kirilowii.  Yep there is a reason why they look similar.  Kirilowii is
Bonnie Hunter's Indigo Way; her 2024 mystery.  I love the pieced border.  Thinking of what should be the binding fabric...one solid piece or a pieced?  I'll have to open my stash to see what's available that will compliment this project.  Another 2024 UFO complete!

Stash

Purchased

These fabrics complete the requirements for Cats in Pajamas project (2025 UFO).  From Stash comes the last three cats.  From Purchased comes the last three pajamas.  I got the new fabrics from Missouri Star.  If you are in need of flannels I'd check Missouri Star first as they have a very big selection to choose from.

All my dress/collar & belt kits to be swapped in the Millie's Dresses project are done.  I will be cutting the background out for my project this week.  Our swap is only for the dress/collar & belt.  The background is of our own selection.  Pretty clever is our coordinator, Pam, to orchestrate the swap in this fashion.

My stash is growing this week as I get through the collection of fabrics for two projects; both of which will be sewn during the Sunshine Retreat happening May 8 - May 11 in Temecula, CA.  It will be a little while before I will be claiming used =^.^=

Wednesday Workings, April 23, 2025

I am continuing to work on the cutting of Cats in Pajamas and Millie's Dresses.  I want to have this part out of the way before the Sunshine Retreat take place just a couple of weeks from now.  Above you might realize is the first nine cats.  I'm sticking with mostly brown cats.  My babies are brown =^.^=

This photo was taken a while back, but you can see my two playfully in the laundry baskets as I start the laundry.  They still do this today.  Kassy especially likes to go for "rides".  She will jump in a basket and be carried anywhere.  (Kassy is on the left.)

I had to do a little bit of shopping for the remaining fabrics needed for Millie's Dresses.  The FQ on the bottom is for my last Bonnie Hunter Mystery, Double Delight, that will be started before too long!  For now that's it; enjoy your day.

I got straight with the pattern to be used in the swap; the one above.  Christy noticed a difference in my pattern and what we were to use.  I'm surprised there are two versions of this pattern.  The one I thought we were swapping dresses is what you see below.

What I couldn't understand is why we were swapping 16 dresses, unfortunately I never asked about it.  Fortunately, I cut the dresses to the hand out Pam created to make it easier to manage what to swap.  All figured out, no mistakes made.  This is where I stand now.

Dresses cut out for the swap and the one on the background I'll be using for my project.  Next up the collars and belts.

Fabrics selected now time to cut these collars and belts.  I may be lean on the green.  It looks the best on the dress so I may need more.  I did think about black for the orange dress, but that might not be a good choice considering we are to make "like the pattern".  Don't see any black :(.

This is the second project that I am cutting.  I have three more FQs yet to arrive from Missouri Star to finish the cats pajamas pictured on the right.  Going to do something fun with a diagonal chest with the stripe.  Yep I caught the piece that's at the neck to make diagonal too.

These are the fabrics that my cats will be.  I will be paying close attention to how they show up on the background as it is dark.  I saw a same project previously where the maker used a fabric where the cat got lost.  It looked, unless you looked closely, like a ghost cat wearing pajamas.  I won't be making that mistake.  All the cheeks and nose/eyes are the same off white/black.  My gray cat may end up with gold eyes and a light gray nose so the black doesn't get lost.  All part of trial and a good Design Wall!

A picture of the Elizabeth Hartman pattern.  It is so darned cute!  All my pajamas will be flannel.

My Design Wall is empty for now, but soon will be filled with 90 10" squares to make the back for Krushed.  I did find a solid red fabric for the binding of Karolina Krossroads.  Boy do I love my AccuQuilt =^.^=

Remember that this weekend is Sunshine Quilters of San Diego, Rise & Shine Boutique.  Here are the details:
