Wednesday Workings, August 26, 2026

Introducing Kordia Krunch!  This one of Bonnie Hunter's design Cherry Crunch used a lot of scraps.  The only part not scrappy is the inner boarder, backing and binding.  Did you know that Kordia is a type of cherry?

I also finished mom's third table runner made for her from her stash.

Flutter top finished.  The back is a pink and white check.  Its binding will be a solid pink.  I will have the binding, sleeve, and label with me in Maryland.  Kerry should receive it late Thursday for the quilting.  We are thinking some kind of flower or butterfly or possibly a combination of the two in white or pale pink thread.  She will mail it to me in Maryland so I can finish it up for Me-Maw to gift.

If that wasn't enough the 24 B Blocks of Katydid are finished.  Next up will be the one pieced border.  It is the first border out from the middle.  Katydid is a type of insect if you didn't already know.  That insect makes a very loud night sound!

Design Wall Monday, August 24, 2026

 

Katydid is moving along.  I cut the fabric for the second of the units B Block.  Between the two sewing days last week I was able to sew and cut into the 3.5" units (pictured in the center).  The last unit needed is the black/gray hour glass units (pictured on left).  Sunday evening I wiggled in time to stitch the hour glass units.  I also was excited to see a B Block sewn together.  I am loving this project.

There is still a pieced border of neutral/black that brings all these hour glass units together.  Yes it did turn into a Halloween project =^.^=

It is not a great photo of Flutter, but this is what is on my Design Wall (Katydid is on my sewing table).  The butterflies have been arranged a bit since I last showed a potential layout.  Time to sew the large 13.5" blocks together and attach the borders.  The pink check is to be the backing and the solid pink the binding.  I have an agreed upon label...time to finish this project up and get it to Kerry.  I am shooting for Tuesday at USPS!

Sunday Stash Report, August 23, 2026

 

Two more Teddy Bears are finished.  There are five more to stitch that I will be tackling on the plane.  These are easy to work on and will consume much of the 10 hours flight time to and from my parents.

Stash enhancements from Rosie's for the commissioned Flutter project.  The pink check will be for the back and the two on the right are for the main wings of the last two butterflies.

The best purchase was the replacement Creative Grids ruler.  I sure did miss this ruler size from the most unfortunate Accuquilt cutter debacle.

Two projects arrived from Kerry YEAH!  Kordia Krunch is one of them.  The fabric at the top right is the backing and sleeve.  I'll be looking for enough solid red to bind it with.  I'm hopeful that there will be something from my stash.

The third and last (for now) table runner is ready to bind and label.  It will be heading to mom in a package with lots of other goodies early this week.

So for now I have just three yards to add that will soon be counted in the used stats.  Have a wonderful Sunday.

Wednesday Workings, August 19, 2026

I have Flutter as far as it can go until fabric arrives in the mail.  ETSY is bringing me a blue print and Kerry is sending me two red prints.  Sure hope the fabrics work when they get here.  I am likely going to use a pink for the binding.  There should be enough of the background for the back.  I would like to have Flutter off to Kerry for quilting before I leave on my flight next week.

The B Block is next to build on Katydid.  First come 25 sets of 4 HSTs.  

These oranges will make the second part of B Block.  I will be cutting these tonight.  The black and white fabrics are already downstairs on the table waiting for the oranges.  I have two sewing days this week on Friday and Saturday.  My goal is to have all the units cut and start in on the sewing so that the B Blocks will come together.

Design Wall Monday, August 17, 2026

I kept working on Flutter Sunday afternoon even though it was pretty chaotic around here.  There was a fire started around 1:30pm that was moving slowly towards the East until it wasn't.  We were inside the Evacuation Order - Set for most of the day.  San Diego Fire Department finally gave the all clear around 8:30pm except for one zone not close to us.  The Sorrento Fire spread to 131 acres.  There were five fixed planes and three helicopters working the blaze.  At 8:30pm Sunday it was 25% contained.  Can't wait for the smokey smell to dissipate =^.^=

So back to Flutter.  These are the pieces needed for the project.  There will be eight butterflies.  I still need a three more flower prints for the upper wings.  I have plenty of lower wings and body fabrics for whatever I can find.  I'd really like a blue, purple and maybe a red or pink floral.  I've made all the nine patches, but may change my mind on the focus fabric.  Right now it is a stripe that picks up the butterfly colors.  I am thinking it doesn't make enough of an impact.  Easy enough to change to something different at this point.

Sunday Stash Report, August 16, 2026

This is a 2026 UFO finish!  Kerry and I took the workshop Confetti by Jemina Flendt at Road to California this year.  This was the project using the pattern When Perfect Isn't the Point.  I used the scraps mainly from two projects and Pam helped me out from one project that we both made.  Neither project had much black so I added in a bit more that worked well with the other scraps.

Which name do you like better Krinkle or Krimped?  Crinkle is the name of the paper you find in shipping boxes.  Crimped is the process that paper goes through to make it crinkle.

I'm thinking Krinkle sounds "holidayish".  Surprised I never thought to use it for a Christmas project.  Crimped sort of works as it is all the leftover fabric from three different projects.  I would use Konfetti, but it has already been used on another of my projects.  I'll wait for your help...don't let me down =^.^=

This week I will claim for the yardage it takes to build this 60" by 60" project.  Nothing purchased this week.  Next up in the sewing queue is Flutter.

Wednesday Workings, August 12, 2026

 

Joe's Ties quilt is complete.  It took me awhile, but all the colar buttons are in place and the label is secure.  I'll be mailing this one to it's new owner to hold for her son until Christmas.

Mom's table runner 2 is done.  There is one more to go that Kerry will likely have back to me soon.  These have been fun to make.  Possibly more are coming as I do my best to use up her stash.

I spent most of Tuesday on the computer and when evening came buttons...buttons...buttons.  By the end of the evening only half way through the tiny 24 colar buttons.  The rest were done after aqua fit.  I'll soon be in my Sewing Room putting the Block As together of Katydid (Spider & The Fly).

Design Wall Monday, August 10, 2026

I need to make sure the arrangements of the blocks look good before sewing them together.  I started Monday with not all 25 Block As cut or sewn.

I had a lot of it quite far along.  A few more units yet to be done.

The last units kept me busy today.

I will be finishing up my two latest hand sewing projects later after dinner if the hubby decides to watch something I don't prefer =^.^=

I met up with my sewing friends on Thursday and Friday at Rosie's this past week.  I picked up two 1/4 yards of fabric for Spider & the Fly project.  I should have waited until Friday because all the Halloween fabrics were on sale.  Not a big discount since this purchase only ended up to be 1/2 yard total.  My project is going along briskly.  I'm deep into the 25 Block As.  My project is using mostly white/black as the backgrounds.  It isn't necessarily a Halloween quilt, but the colors lean towards that theme.

These came home with me too.  They are all for the butterfly/flower quilt called Flutter that I have commissioned to make.  Pretty excited by the background fabric.  I will be working on this one after my Spider & the Fly Block As are done.

I did look at Rosie's for the 6 1/2 x 12 1/2 Creative Grids ruler to replace my oops with the Accuquilt cutter.  She has them on order and I am slated to get one when the three arrive.  I need this ruler =^.^=

I did finish the tie quilt's binding.  I have buttons to add to the colars yet.  Mon's table runner 2 is nearly bound; just one long side to go.  Until next time.

Wednesday Workings, August 5, 2026

I was able to get the fabric needed for Kommitted.  No thanks to Kassy (one of my kitties), I was able to finish the binding.  I'm happy to use both my mom's and my stash with Kommitted.  I am finally starting to see a small dent in my neutrals!

I trimmed down Mom's Table Runner 2 and the Tie quilt ready to add the binding.  One binding is ready to go and the other needs to be prepared.  

In the meantime I have been working on Spider & The Fly.  Cutting units and sewing the many hour glass units.  This is a fun block unit that I enjoy making.  I have block units sewn for two blocks right now.  I will sew together when I have more so that the fabric mixes are the most pleasing.  

I skipped Aqua Fit today to give my toe more time to heal from my stumble on Friday night.  I found out running into a chair leg in the middle of the night can break a toe.  I was at the doctor's office yesterday and brought up my very bruised toe.  She sent me to get xrays.  Turns out that my middle toe is fractured.  Not much can be done except to keep weight off and tape.  I haven't taped, but as I said time to keep activity level and leg propped up for a few days.

Design Wall Monday, August 3, 2026

It doesn't look like much now, but this is the beginning of Spider & The Fly.  This is the last of the fabrics that I pulled together from my mom's stash to make a Bonnie Hunter design.  Mom didn't have much in these colors, but I did manage to pull some blacks and oranges.  The tool you see is Bonnie's Essential Triangle Tool.  First step is to make lots of hour glass units.  Most of the units will be black/neutral and about a quarter of them in black/grey.  The neutrals are all coming from my stash.  This should be a good chunk of fabric from my stash too.

Today I received two projects from Kerry.  Can't wait to share them with you once the binding is in place.

Sunday Stash Report, August 2, 2026

 

I had a helper this weekend.  Don and Rita were our house guests for the weekend.  The "boys" like playing video golf (lots of it) so Rita and I are left to entertain ourselves.  I have this project for Sunshine Quilt Guild going on to reduce the overwhelming amount of donated fabric that is part of the Cuddle Quilt Program,  My Accuquilt Big Go! was working overtime cutting 10" and 5" squares for making layer cakes and charm packs.  Rita is a crafter, but not a quilter.  She picked up the 5" square template and ran with it.  We have nearly cleared a large tote pan of fabrics :)

Next came the part of coordinating squares into cakes or packs.  It takes a lot of variety to bring one together.  We managed to make four this time around.  Later I will be meeting up with Lorna of Sunshine Quilt Guild to get more from the stash to create more cakes and packs with that variety I spoke about.

Looking forward to making these cakes and packs available for a screaming deal; just one quarter of the price of fabric.

Wednesday Workings, July 29, 2026

This is the last of the projects from mom's stash; table runner 3.  There was a lot of the stripe...and I still didn't use it all!  I added a lot of my fabrics to make this one happen.  Soon I will be back to sorting through mom's stash to see what else I can make =^.^=

I was able to get the blue fabric that I needed for Kommitted's binding.  It was put together and stitched onto the quilt.  Next up is hand stitching the binding in place.  I also need to print some labels now that I have four projects that need them.  I always wait until there are four so that I use the label paper efficiently.

I need to get a replacement 6 1/2" x 12 1/2" Creative Grids ruler still.  It can wait until next week when I am at Rosie's.  If Rosie's doesn't have there is alway other ways to purchase one.

We have house guests this weekend so you know what that means...cleaning and dusting!  Until the next time do what makes you happy!

Design Wall Monday, July 27, 2026

This is Confetti.  A 2026 UFO from a workshop at RD2CA earlier this year.  The top row is complete.  The next four rows are sewn into blocks.  The last row is waiting for the generosity of Pam.  Much of the fabric was scraps from Home for the Holly Days BOM that we both participated in.  Pam is on the last of the parts putting her project together.  I have lots of reds that I would need to double up on; here is where Pam's scraps come in.  For now my Confetti is napping until I can meet up with her.  This project doesn't use a template and it is real tricky to get the arrangement right.  If you see anything out of place due let me know.

There is always another project to work on =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, July 26, 2026

This charity quilt is made from mom's stash with a little help from mine.  I am at the point of putting the sashing together.  Purple is what the binding will be; it matches the purple in the sashing.  There is one more project planned with the pinks from this project.

Since Wednesday my Accuquilt Go has been busy cutting layer cakes and charm packs.  The project is with the cuddle quilt fabrics of Sunshine Quilters.  I am taking a break from all the standing that it takes to sort, iron, prepare and finally put through the cutter.  The results are great so far.  We will be selling these precuts at one-quarter the price of yardage.  You can do whatever you wish with the precuts; they aren't only available for the making of cuddle quilts.

Not much to share on any of my projects.  Not any change to stash either.  Above all I am trying to stay cool during this hot and humid weather patternwe are in the midst of here in San Diego.

Wednesday Workings, July 22, 2026

I enjoyed very much working on Klarity.  The purples were just soothing to sew with.  It is probably the cool colors that I am enjoying during these very hot and humid days we are experiencing of late.

Next to share with you today is the Teddy Bears cross stitch project.  Last I shared photos the bear with the blanket was not finished, but as you can see this cutie is done.  On to the next...

I have been working on this 2026 UFO, Confetti.  I had it layed out nicely on my design wall until a windy day two days back blew off lots of blocks where they had been placed.  Oh well, nothing is concrete until it is stitched together!  I also finished more blocks so perhaps the fill-ins will make it a little bit more pleasing.  Until this project, as yet unnamed, comes down off my design wall I won't move on to my mom's project #3 or my next project which is butterflies and pastel flowers.

This table runner came back from Kerry a few days ago.  I'm busy on the binding; about half way around now.  Wanted to share with you the cute quilting design in very bright green thread to match the fabric in the center and border.  Mom's going to love how I am using her stash.

Along with the table runner came Kommitted.  I want to bind it in this solid blue fabric, but I don't have enough.  Will be checking for more before I move on.  I did put the sleeve together so it is ready to go.

Design Wall Monday, July 20, 2026

Confetti is on my Design Wall this morning.  The pattern is called When Perfect Isn't the Point by Jemina Flendt.  The top row is sewn together.  This is what I was able to accomplish in January at Road to California Quilt Show earlier this year.  I used lots of scraps from previous projects to put this project together.  A BOM from Fat Quarter Shop provided enough background scraps, but I had to wait each month to get enough to finish it (plus a little help from Pam).

I am getting low on three fabrics to have a good variety, but I will continue with what I have.  I can always reduce the size if the reds take over too much.  Instead of 144 units (4 make a block), I can make it 100 units.  This would mean 5 blocks by 5 blocks instead of 6.  I would be happy with this smaller size instead.  I can't call this quilt Konfetti because I already have a quilt with that name.  Time to start considering what to call my Confetti =^.^=

This one is done!  Kordia Krunch came together since Wednesday.  I had a bit of a delay making up my mind on the inner border.  I thought a solid white until I found this half yard in my stash.  It has dots just enough not to be so stark.  It will be off to Kerry sometime this week.

Wednesday Workings, July 15, 2026

I am excited that all the piecing is done on Kordia Krunch.  All these pieces are on my design wall ready for a good press.  That pressing will take place as I stitch the rows together.  This was a big project.  There is a neutral inner border that needs to be figured out.  There is lots to do before an inner border can be added.  Oh I wish these last five quilts were UFOs!  

Klarity came back from Kerry.  I have her all trimmed and ready for the next steps.  Pieces of the border were plenty; they will become the sleeve.  I have it yet to stitch.  Love the purple =^.^=

Design Wall Monday, July 13, 2026

I am working away on Cherry Crunch.  The block consists of eight 2.5 x 4.5 units.  I will be making a total of 56 blocks.  In this photo the top row and the far right have the required seven by eight blocks.  I have the red string border units done.

Today I continue tow get those 56 blocks finished and fill up the space on my design wall.  I looked up types of cherries as inspiration for a "K" name.  Turns out there is a cherry I can use for a name.  How does Kordia Krunch sound?
