Today my day has been spent binding.  Binding, sleeves, and labels to finish Kurosity and Kristoff.  Sleeve and label to finish Kwill.  Plus several more labels that have been waiting to be printed for other projects.  You do know the cost of those nice fabric sheets =^.^=.

Sunday Stash Report, February 28, 2016

Let me start with Kwill that has been completed.  This is my first feathered star project.  I've done a couple of others, but they were for other projects not mine.  You can check out the making of Kwill (and any other in work projects) through the Label on the right side bar.  I can see the possibility of more feathered stars in my future.

Earlier in the week I took on part of a project for my friend Bonnie.  She's hoping to get this Judy Niemeyer project complete for her Mother-in-Law this year.  This is the bottom outside border of Judy's Flowers for my Wedding Ring design.

I finished all the vines and leaves on my piece.  Thursday evening the light pink flower finished.  DeLinda is helping too.  Between the three of us this project will be done before her Mother-in-Law's Birthday rolls around again.

This last weekend of February my attention was turned to completing my BOMs.  My second one Kalvery was done on Saturday.  It was much the same as January two large blocks and six smaller blocks.  The large blocks are 12" and the smaller ones 6" finished. Once the design wall is available I plan to layout the pieces done so far to see how it is looking.  

The third and last of the February BOMs to finish is Kanton Kull.  This was the start of February's "Chapter".  It is a 12 month series, but instead of each month where a block is produced, this project's segments are rounds.  The fabrics on the left are for February.  The block on the right is Chapter 1.  This project is heavy cutting; not to mention precise unit measurements.

Before bedtime last night the Delectable Mountain blocks were assembled and ready for the final seams of Chapter 2.  I will be finishing this up today.  Don't you just love the red fabrics?  Just wait to you see all of them!

No change to stash this week.  I have so much happening in my sewing room that finishes might take awhile...but that's the enjoyment...working on each of them.  Visit tomorrow for a view at all the projects I have in work and just where they are in their process.  Link into Patchwork Times if you have time.

Design Wall Monday, February 22, 2016

I spent much of the day cutting and trimming.  These are Block 4 and the 7-12 small stars.  I did get the pieces together for Block 3 of Kalvery.

I trimmed down the wedges of Kaffe Kisses and the next part which is the melon.  Here is where I have managed to sneak in my cats.  They are usually never very obvious.  By the time the units have their final trim they will be undetectable!

We have started the second season of Outlander on Netflix.  I just love listening to the Scottish accents. Time for binding...first up is Kwill.

Kamikaze Fabrics
2015 UFO

 A trip to Rosie's on Friday had me bringing home two pieces for Kamikaze.  The fabrics will be used for the 4-patches that run across the quilt in two directions.  Each red will have a neutral, likewise with the orange.  This project is Bonnie Hunter's Midnight Flight design.  It happens to be on my 2015 UFO list; a number to be called yet.  I figure as big and involved as it is I best get further along.  If you find this project familiar it's because I coordinated a unit swap of the blue/neutral and purple/neutral blade units that are for it.  During the week I pulled scraps and readied the neutral 1 1/2" strips that will be used in the 4-patches.  The last unit to complete the center are HSTs of black/neutral.  As always there are a gazillion units...=^.^-=  I'll share more on this project soon.

These five 1/2 yard pieces came from Sew Batik.  Always need neutrals and what better fabric than a batik?

Kurosity
April 2015 UFO

I do have a couple of completions to account for (which helps offset the purchases).  Kurosity is done and so is Kwill.  I added them to my quilting queue at Kerry's Quilting yesterday.  I have a feathery pattern for Kurosity in a variegated black/purple thread.  The back for it is a small scale gray print.  Batik is going to get a feathery pattern as well.  It will be a custom quilting project using several quilting elements that are similar for the blocks, setting triangles, corners and the two borders.  I ran with the suggestion for a tan thread.  The tan will match the color of the setting triangles.

Kwill

I have Kwill done!  I'm excited about how it has turned out.  

Now my attention is turned once again to finishing up Kurosity which is my April UFO.  All blocks are sewn.  Time next for pressing and row assembly.  A black border is planned.  Its looking like two finishes on Sunday's Stash Report.

Design Wall Monday, April 6, 2015

Kurosity

I have two projects on my Design Wall.  Above is my April UFO project.  I have the rest of the pieces cut out and plan to finish up the sewing early this week.  This is Barbara Brackman's Checkered Past design.  I've made the squares 2" rather than 2 1/2" to make the finished size a bit smaller than the 65" x 65" finish of her design.  It will get a black border and binding with a gray back.  It is going so fast that it may be done this weekend.

Kwill

Kwill is turning out nice too.  I did have to adjust the called for size of the four brown batik squares to make it work.  I have to put the last border in place and this project by Donna Lynn Thomas called Batik Feathers will be done.

I have to have time during this month to dream up my Sunshine Quilt Guild Clue Challenge since it is due in May.  I have a "murderer", a "room", and a "weapon"!  Chatted a bit with my sister about ideas and I have a start in mind...  Won't be able to share much until after the competition!

I hope your Easter was what you wanted it to be.  It was a beautiful cool and breezy day in San Diego.  DH cooked a pork roast on the barbecue while I roasted fingerling potatoes, steamed fresh green beans, and sliced up some strawberries for dessert.  If you find time today see other quilters playing in their sewing rooms through the links at patchworktimes.com.

Design Wall Monday, March 30, 2015

My Batik Feathers project is going quicker than I had anticipated.  I have all the blocks done.  Next comes the setting.  Brown, tan, beige, cream, a little more red and a wild outside border are in store!

These are the fabrics I am using.  It's one of those reds for the inner border and the top right fabric is the outer border.  The larger piece on the bottom will be the back.  Below is the design Batik Feathers by Donna Lynn Thomas.  It can be found in her On-Point Patchwork book.  Her designs use the Omnigrid On-Point Ruler. 

I'm so anxious now to finish this up.  Any ideas for a "K" name?  The only thing coming to mind right now is Kwill.  I have feathers in mind...  See other projects going on today through the links of Patchwork Times.

Korners

A little stash enhancement this week, but it's all for Korners which is finished!  The back and outside border just were not in my stash, so I went to Paradise Sewing with my 50% discount coupon.  Korners is a Bonnie Hunter design called Winston Ways.  It also is one of my 2015 UFOs that has yet to be called.  It will be nice the month it does to have it done.

I have started the hand applique on Kompass.  I haven't gotten too far, but all is going to plan!

Do you remember this project from late January?  I am back to working on it.  The blue/red block was done at the workshop.  Green/red block next.

Design Wall Monday, January 26, 2015

I spent Thursday through Saturday this past week in Ontario, California at the Road to California Quilt Show.  I brought home all kinds of patterns and some fabrics for them.  Kurry needed a few more yellows and blues.  The fabrics that are positioned a bit lower on the top row and the one under the dark purple should be able to accomplish the requirements.  Now to get to the sewing.  I'll be working on this one this week and until February's UFO project has been announced on the 1st.

This is a very cute "sewing book" that I picked up.  The design is by Lynette Anderson.  The embellishments are all sewing related.  Notice the reindeer on the green fabric?  Just way too cute not to bring home.  I will be using the light green on the top for the "sewing book" and the other two for a Christmas theme Buggy Barn Design that I have on my want to make sewing list.

This project is 46" x 56" and perfect for little 4-patches.  It is called "A Quilt for Mrs. Chalmers" by Em and Me Designs.  I will be using the cheddars for it.  The tractor holding the quilt is a shinny orange.  Doesn't show much of the quilt so I pulled the instructions so that you could see what my eyes happened upon in their booth.

I didn't purchase any fabrics for these patterns.  I had in mind using scraps.  The projects are small except Rainbow Radiance.  There will be more on these projects as I get to them during the year.

I purchased Rainbow Radiance and the On-Point Patchwork book from Donna Lynn Thomas at her workshop.  I nearly accomplished one block during the class.  I put the final parts together after the class in my hotel room.  Using the Omnigrip On-Point ruler is pretty neat.  I like many of the designs Donna Lynn has so I'm thinking I'll give this ruler a go on another of her projects.

The last class was a mystery by Tiffany Hayes.  It was called Downton Abbey; featuring the fabric line.  Tiffany uses the Goddess Tool for her projects.  She mentioned this was her first every mystery.  She did a great job in my opinion.  There were 36 in the workshop that was from 6pm to midnight.  The evening was started with a lottery on the kits, all of which were named after one of the characters in the popular television show now in its fifth season.  Mine is the Lord kit which are primarily manly prints.  I finished the first three episodes and have two more yet to go before the finale.  

Kookaburra was displayed nicely in among the other quilts of its category.  There was some stiff competition this year.  I do agree with the judging the winners created some beautiful quilts.  You will have to stop in from time to time and see how my new projects are coming along.  Have a wonderful week and if you have time see more projects through the links at Patchwork Times.

Sunday Stash Report, January 25, 2015

Let's start with all my fabric purchases at Road to California...  I purchased a FQ bundle to get the 14 you see on the left.  These won't take very long for me to use.  Neutrals are a must with scrappy projects!  Next up are FQ cheddars and a 1/2 yard yellow.  I picked up a pattern while I was at the show that will use the cheddars.  (I'll share patterns tomorrow.)  Next up fabrics for Kurry; I needed a few more blues and yellows to complete the look that I am working to achieve.  The multi color will be part of the consistent design that runs through the top.  Finally, more FQs for another of the patterns that I purchased.  I'm certainly looking forward to using these fabrics.

I knew I'd have a heavy "purchase" week and really hoped to finish my Grand Illusion to offset the add.  Well you can see that I finished Kadabra...  The teal fabric that I thought to use for the inner border just didn't work so yellow it is.  I am thinking to use the teal for the binding.  We shall see what will be after it is quilted.

Kool Krystals
#2 January 2015 UFO

Let's start with the good news...I have a finish with Kool Krystals.  I'm sure liking the results.  This is a big quilt coming in at 75 x 90.  Bonnie Hunter design called Scrap Crystals.  That strip you see on the right will be put into the back.  I like to use all the pieces from a project.  If some end up on the back, well so be it!  Below is the back fabric.  I'm happy to have had it in my stash.  The color and design couldn't have been a better choice.

Next the fun stuff...I went to Beverly's and Rosie's on Friday to get fabrics for one of the two workshops I'll be attending this coming week at Road to California.  Yep...went off the deep end!  The big piece across the bottom will be the border.  Everything else will go into this project called Batik Feathers by Donna Lynn Thomas.

Design Wall Monday, January 12, 2015

 I don't have enough Design Wall to put all of Kool Krystals up!  The pieces to finish the bottom are on the right.  All units are sewn together; now it's time to assemble the top.  At first I thought I didn't like the look of the sashing.  After making more units and putting them on the wall, my mind was changed.  

The design by Bonnie Hunter (Scrap Crystals) calls for an outer solid border.  Still not sure I will add it to my project.  Once I have it all assembled I will audition using the blue in the sashing for the binding and forego the outer border.

I took a little time on Sunday to pull red-orange batiks and neutrals for a workshop I'll be taking at Road to California in a couple of weeks.  The workshop will be led by Donna Lynn Thomas called Batik Feathers.  The supply list calls for cream (instead of neutrals), dark and medium batiks.  I may try to find something cream between now and then.  I've used these neutrals for several other projects and to be honest I'm getting a little border with them.

Tonight hopefully the Oregon Ducks will pull off a win.  Friends are coming over for the game and dinner.  Tuesday night there is Sunshine Quilt Guild.  I won't be getting back to the sewing room until Wednesday...  See what is going on in other sewing rooms around the globe through the links at Patchwork Times.
