I am settling back into routine :(!  Mom left Tuesday...I miss her already.  We had such a good time while she was here.  Now we will be back to regular telephone calling.  I do have a visit to look forward to at the end of the month.  My Sister will visit for a week!

I have two finished quilts to share.  Krystals is a miniature of the original design.  All the pinwheels were made from leftover red and white HSTs.  Can you see the snow flakes? There are 14 wool snowflakes blanket stitched in place.  They are pretty much hidden except for the ones that touch the border.

Konstellation and Krown

Konstellation and Krown is a great size for my office work space as well as a couple walls in my home.  It is one of the three sizes that are featured in the pattern.  This project is all from scraps.  One of my 2016 UFOs.

Saturday Mom and I spent the day with Kerry.  It is always fun to get quilts back finished when I visit.  Krystals (Snowy Day by Bev Getschel) and Konstellation and Krown (Star and Crown by Pat Speth) came home with me.  They are both trimmed down, binding is ready for stitching as well as the sleeves.

Today is Mom's fifth day of her three week stay.  Not much change on Kayenne except some "reverse stitching".  I decided against a much lighter background for some of the blocks.  We both continue to get ready for the quilting retreat that starts on Thursday.  A small detour on Wednesday on our way to the retreat hopefully won't leave us without change in our pockets!

Congratulation Denver Broncos!  It was somewhat unexpected play by the Carolina Panthers in my opinion.  What did you think about the commercials and the halftime show.  Like Bruno Mars and the Doritos commercial topped them all!

This week I have touched on almost every project I have in work.  It is a bit hectic having so many things going on, but it is a good chaos.  I have been trimming the many HSTs that will be used in Winning Combination...which thanks to Janet O...has a "K" name.  Kutarug fits perfectly!  You will be seeing this project for quite sometime as I work on the 936 2" HSTs.

Konstellation and Krown is my February UFO that holds top priority under the needle right now.  The start is 5" squares of two main fabrics; in my case blue and red.  Along with 5" neutrals.  Then the trim down to 4 1/2".  I am in the process of trimming down with the reds to finish.  Next comes dividing the the unit into four equal pieces which become two smaller HSTs and one each of the background and main fabric.  My sample has an error in the layout which I'll be certain to watch out for when the blocks, two different types are assembled.  (It's the white solid block in the red block upper left that should be red.)  I should have this project close to done by the weekend.

Konstitution

Konstitution Month 2 HSTs are prepared and ready for stitching.  I have several of the units sewn, with more to go.  I do love HSTs!  This project takes 720 HSTs that will be done with triangles on a roll paper.  The quantity has been divided up into three months since Kerry and I are doing this project as a BOM through the year.

Krystals

Krystals was in my hands during the Super Bowl.  I have two of the 17 snowflakes sewn down.  The snowflakes are felted wool and the thread to sew them down is perle cotton.  You can just about make out the one in the top left of the quilt.  There are two different snowflake designs.

Kurosity and Kristoff came home with me from Kerry's on Saturday.  I have both trimmed down awaiting the binding that needs to be prepared yet.  Kurosity will have the black print (like the outer border) with the gray for the sleeve.  Kristoff will get red binding and the scraps will be sewn together for the sleeve.  Kristoff makes me smile...how about you?

I have the Sunshine Quilt Guild monthly meeting to attend tomorrow night.  The program is Schools in Session.  I'll be presenting a 15 minute tutorial on several ways to make a flying geese unit.  Friday has me in a workshop with Bonnie Hunter sponsored by El Camino Quilt Guild.  I'll be at Eleanor Burns place, Quilt in a Day, for the day.  The project is Scrappy Majestic Mountains.  I plan to use a 5" HST instead of the 8" called for in the instructions.  I was in a swap where 5" HSTs were swapped...a perfect opportunity to use them!  It will be a smaller project, but I like that idea.

Star and Crown pattern

52Quilts selected #9 to be worked on this month from our 2016 UFO list.  For me it is Star and Crown.  I will be making the small size 38" x 38".  This design is by Pat Speth of Nickel Quilts.  It uses charm squares cut up to give the maker correct pieces for construction.  Pat is known for her use of the charm squares.  I have taken a workshop from her in the past and made some very successful projects.  I'm looking forward to this one that I will be calling Konstellation and Krown.

I also have three BOMs to keep up with in February.  Another month of HSTs for Konstitution, a border round for Kanton Kull, and more star blocks for Kalvery.

Sunshine Quilt Guild's BOM for February needs to be stitched up before the next meeting; a week from today.  We are also having a member led School Is In Session meeting.  I'll be showing how to make Flying Geese units in several different ways.

Hand sewing the binding and snowflakes of Komatose and Krystals is also on my "to do" list along with finishing the machine applique on Kastaway.

And if all of that isn't enough...with my collection of bonus triangles from various past projects...lunchtime will have me trimming with my Bloc-Loc ruler 2" HSTs for another project that I recently found in American Patchwork and Quilting April Issue called Winning Combination by Tammy Vonderschmitt.  I am so excited to have the nearly 1,000 bonus triangles now with a home.  Please do help me with a "K" name for this one!

Sunday Stash Report, January 31, 2016

I have nothing to claim either way this reporting.  I am making headway on Kaffe Kisses.  Saturday found me working on the fifth color combination that is green.  I am still working out how the blocks should be set.

I have Kanton Kull Chapter 1 done in time for the month.  This is a project Kerry and I are working for a BOM or more appropriately Chapter of the Month as this project is described.

Also done is the binding on Krystal Kreek.  This is a Bonnie Hunter design that went together pretty fast.  One of the awesome use up scraps projects that I found possible with my stash.  Yardage has already been accounted for on this one.

It is hard to see, but the snowflakes have all been prepared with felted wool to be added to Krystals.  I will be stitching these down over the next week or so.  There are two different designs that will float around the quilt's top.  This too yardage has been accounted already.

So I close this post with nothing used and nothing gained.  I am working my way towards a finish of Kaffe Kisses.  I hope you check out more projects through the links today at Patchwork Times.

Sunday Stash Report, November 29, 2015

I added to my stash this week.  Each one has a home waiting for it!  The first one is fabric from Chapter 12 BOM for Kanton Kull (A Prairie Gathering) that has yet to be started.  January I'll be sewing Chapter 1; hoping that Kerry can keep up.

These two are for Katchaklaus (Believe) on the bottom and Kontentment (Allietare Mystery) on the top.  I needed a bit more for the back of Katchaklaus and the gray is the constant gray that I just couldn't come up with in my stash.  I'll be using the gray for Clue 1 today along with the neutral to make 294 2" HSTs.

This last piece is the red I picked up for Krystals (Snowy Day).  I have already used it as you can see in the photo below for the border.

I have the piecing all done now.  Time for putting the rows together, but that won't be likely be until Friday.  I have lots of cooking to do tomorrow and family coming by to share Thanksgiving Day.  Krystals will be a nice addition to my Christmas decorations.  My version is significantly smaller than the pattern.  My blocks finished at 5 1/2" square where the pattern called for 12 1/2".  I will be picking up a solid red fabric for an outer border and considering the stripe as a diagonal binding.

Bonnie Hunter's Allietare Mystery Clue 1 is released Friday.  I need to pick up 1 1/2 yards of the constant fabric, a gray.  The largest piece in my stash is 1 yard.

Katchaklaus is done.  I'm so excited about how this project turned out.  Maybe I'll just have to use it as decoration as a flimsy...

I have started to pull fabrics for Bonnie Hunter's Allietare Mystery.  Have you?  Several of the leftovers from Katchaklaus will be used along with a bunch more I still need to hunt for in my stash.  I may have to raid Kerry's stash of reds; she has lots of them.  I'll likely assist her with grays.  As I remember she's a bit light on them.

I have a good assortment of both blacks and grays.  Hope to use some of my cut strips, but until I know the sizes of the pieces no sense to look.  I have already decided on a name for my project.  Kontentment sounds right considering the meaning of Allietare.  What do you think?

So during the mystery I'll be working on Snow Day.  It won't be quite as large as the original since I don't have that many pinwheels and they are a bit smaller than the intended units.  I'm pleased with this outcome though.  This project still needs a name...

Part of this week goes to cooking.  DH's family will join us on Thursday.  We brought home the turkey on Saturday along with potatoes, fresh vegetables, and stuffing mixes.  I have to make a list yet of other items to have on hand for our feast.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone.

Now I have it right!  I mentioned that several of the blocks might have been turned wrong when I stitched up the top.  I was right, six blocks had the four patch going the wrong direction.  So happy to find out before it was quilted.  Back to Kerry's Quilting queue it will go.

Erica's Craft and Sewing Center in South Bend, IN had the fabrics I've been looking for for my Snowy Day project.  It was on sale too!  I mentioned seeing this project a few weeks ago.  I had been on the hunt for something that would work, but not successful.  The fabrics arrived yesterday, so after stitching flying santas...snowflakes will be on my sewing table.

Sunday Stash Report, October 18, 2015

I purchased 3.5 yards of fabric from Rosie's in La Mesa on Tuesday.  I had thought I only needed one cream an two purples...found something better.  I am all set for my Believe! class that is later this month.  This project has an awesome name thanks to Nancy J who is one of my followers.  Katchaklaus!

 I focused time on Kamikaze preparing for the binding and sleeve.  I will be trimming it down tomorrow morning so I'll have something to work on during the day's football games.

These are the fabrics for the binding of Komatose.  I finished the project last weekend, but binding hadn't yet been prepared.  I'll be using strips from all the teals used in the project.  

Kristoff blocks are finished.  I have to figure out which frog block finished the smallest and cut all the others to that size.  If it is too much smaller I might be adding a strip of the background to it then re-estimating what my average block size is.  All blocks must be the same size.  The border is 2-1/2" strips sewn in a log cabin style.  My initial thoughts are to use the solid red I used in the hearts for the binding.  I will see how that works out as time moves forward.  After the block size is decided I will be working on the eyes, pupils, and smile.  These frogs have lots of personality.  How do you like the placement of the prince frogs?  I am planning for the back to be all the leftover fabrics.  This one should take a bunch from my stash.

Numbers for this week have a little enhancement for Katchaklaus that will soon be changed to a used.  I hope you have a wonderful week.

Sunday Stash Report, October 4, 2015

This weekend I have been able to finish most of the piecing.  Above are the four corner stones.  Next is the orange strip that will be used for the inner border.  All the outside border units are done too.  I have the sashing yet to go, but it is cut out.  A couple nights more should see this project into a top.

I got the November/December McCall's Quilting magazine this past week.  Snowy Day is perfect to use up a bunch of pinwheels that were once thought of for a round robin.  The blocks will finish half size of the pattern, but I'm excited about that.  I sure don't need another large project.  

No changes to stash this week.  I am looking forward to a little reduction with Komatose next week.  Enjoy your week ahead!
