Design Wall Monday, January 31, 2022

Finally, it was time yesterday to finish the binding on Katcher.  I just love the look of the binding.

Besides cutting the last of the pieces for the car blocks that is all that is going on.  Still on my cluttered Design Wall is Lori Holt's Autumn Love, Sunshine's BOM Win a Bonnie Hunter pattern called Punkin' Patch, Kyushu another Bonnie Hunter design called Rhododendron Trails and if that were not enough Karryon another Lori Holt design called Bringing Home the Christmas Tree.

I am still working on Koastline Laundry Basket Quilt's Michigan.  It is coming along nicely.  I need some more hand sewing and now that the stencil is ready for the next side to be placed, stitched.  First I need to prepare some more dark blue vine!

Sunday Stash Report, January 30, 3022

 

I started out the week with just two of the six cars for Karryon complete.

During the week I did a lot of cutting of pieces to make the rest.  This is the start of a second red and the finish of a yellow car.  I am not thrilled with the second red fabric because it may just be too light with the other three bolder fabrics all ready in the project.

Here is a look at what is done so far.  Sorry for the business of the photo.  I still have Kyushu taking up the majority of my Design Wall.  The last of the trees blocks were finished too.  There are only four tree blocks in the project.

Rosie's was a necessary stop to pick up just a little bit of fabric to finish off the remaining cars.  Like my stash, Rosie's did not have much to offer in the way of wordy fabric that could be used for the accent on the cars.  The top and bottom wordy fabrics will be used for sure.  Still debating on the middle one; likely it will be used for the less bold red and the new red will take it's accent.  Sorry probably confused you on this=^.^=  The bottom gold is a fail that won't be used.  From the black up will all be used.  There will hopefully be more to see on my Design Wall tomorrow.

The specialty ruler arrived and Sunshine January BOM was assembled.  I do like this ruler as it offers a very easy perfectly measured log cabin block.  Using this ruler you sew oversized strips and trim them up as you build the block.  I am happy to have learned about it.

So there is a bit of an add this week.  If DH hadn't driven I would have enjoyed a bit more time in Rosie's, but I got what I needed for now.

Design Wall Monday, January 24, 2022

 

Kyushu is on my Design Wall today...still.  As I mentioned yesterday I'm all in on Koastline.  Not sure when I'll get back to Kyushu.  I am not that far away from the end!

I got started on my Sunshine January BOM.  I thought it was a simple Log Cabin design, but no.  There is a specialty ruler by Creative Grids that sounds to be useful for multiple reasons, especially the making of this block.  I've ordered it from Fat Quarter Quilt Shop.  When it comes in I will get this block done.

I have also cut out the next two blocks for Karryon.  This one will be a red car.  DH will enjoy the accent on this car.

There are two quilts (Krafter and Katcher) ready for me to hand stitch the binding, sleeve, and label in place.  Oh just too much to do that I want done NOW=^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, January 23, 2022

 

Koastline (aka Michigan by Laundry Basket Quilts) has one completed applique border.  I spent most of the day finishing this up.

Difficult to see the entire applique.  

I've tried to use freezer paper to copy the design to use for the remaining three sides.  I only used freezer paper because I have a big roll.  I'll share later if this works well.

So there is nothing to claim this week.  I have Kyushu (aka Rhododendron Trail) on my design wall, but haven't start assembling the blocks, sashing, and rows yet.  I'm very task driven and haven't found that I can put down Koastline!

Design Wall Monday. January 17.2022

 

Well what do you think of this aqua for the tiny sashing?  I know it is the right color, but is it too busy?

The fabric is busy; I think it works...will I have enough?  Next up the connectors out of the garnet.

These are for the little connectors...just 1" cut.  Easy to come up with this size.

These were all the setting triangles some left facing, some right facing, and the four corners.

These four are the fudging spacers as Bonnie Hunter calls them.  Two of the larger size for the sides and two of the smaller size for the top/bottom (I may have this opposite, but you get the idea).  These will work with a previous part to make the next border.

I had seven of these and just couldn't stand seeing the odd number on my design wall...so another one was made to make it even.  Is this OCD?  I don't know how many more I will want for my project, but for now there will be comfort to my eye when glanced upon!

Finally, Koastline has it's first vine ready to stitch down.  Let me tell you this was a challenge for me.  Without a pattern and only a photo knowing how the vine should softly curve around the border kept me from committing.  It did help me to put the leaves down first (the photo).  I ended up taking out four leaves; changing their placement.  I knew I would never be satisfied unless I did it =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, January 16, 2022

 

I'm very excited to have gotten caught up on all the parts of Rhododendron Trail mystery by Bonnie Hunter.  I had lots of sewing room time which is always awesome!  I had through Part 7 done by Thursday evening.  When Friday came the last part and the reveal were released.  I'm working on this part now.  The setting triangles and corners are the first units to be sewn.  There are many pieces yet to be made that I'll be working on the next few days.

Part 5 started putting previous parts together.  I really am happy with how the soft oranges and melon colors are looking.  Turns out I needed to make one more set to finish the top.  

And...the reveal shows me I need to make one more.  These are the fabrics for what will be part of the outer border.

Part 6 got me very excited.  I am pretty certain at this point that I like the change from pink to orange/melon fabrics.  The garnets used are scrappy as are all the other fabrics used so far.

Part 7 put all the hour glass units together in the second block.  Fortunately I didn't have to make more hour glass units.

It will be difficult to see what's on this white on white fabric, but look real close =^.^=  Kerry gifted me this adorable neutral that will definitely get used in many projects to come.

The fabric arrived in the box with two quilts that are just perfectly quilted.  I have the sleeves and binding ready to stitch down.

Finally, meet my newest Alley Cat by Margaret Le Van.  She has a dark dress that is glittered with green.  I have a few more coming this week yet.

So nothing changes my stats this week.  I am hoping I can find something aqua in my stash for the sashing!

Design Wall Monday, January 10, 2022

 

Kumin is finished.  This one will look perfect on the back of my couch.  Kosmo and Kassy will enjoy it since they lay on the back of the couch.  Scott (my brother-in-law) came up with the appropriate name (aka Sonnet or Cinnamon Spice by Westwood Acres).

Now that the binding projects are done more applique work on Koastline is planned.  These are the last few leaves to put down on the first side.  Next comes the vine and stems that are tucked in the baggie at the top of the photo.  Koastline is the design Michigan by Laundry Basket Quilts.  If you are interested Laundry Basket Quilts has this now as a kit.

I have started Part 5 of Kyushu (aka Rhododendron Trail by Bonnie Hunter.  I might be lucky enough to get this part done and maybe get through the next two released parts before Friday...well maybe I'm dreaming =^.^=

I finished the binding on this miniature version of Kristmas Kollection (aka Vintage Christmas by Lori Holt).  I'll be making more from the pattern book Vintage Christmas.

I also worked to catch up on Kyushu (aka Rhododendron Trail by Bonnie Hunter).  I put together Part 3 and Part 4.  I still have Parts 5, 6, and 7 before being caught up.  Part 4 needs to be pressed before moving on.

Today will be binding Kumin and hopefully a win for the Chargers!

I knew it would happen that a negative Stash Report would be the start of my 2022 stats :(  There will be a lot of used this year and well...whatever it takes to get them done!

Design Wall Monday, January 3, 2022

I have this on my sewing table; Sunshine's December 2021 BOM.  I've been busy with applique on Koastline (aka Michigan) and binding.  I have the smaller Kristmas Kollection Mini  (aka Vintage Christmas) project done.  Kumin (aka Cinnamon Spice) has yet to be started.  Part 3 of Kyushu (Rhododendron Trail) is also on my sewing table.  I love having so much to do!

As I mentioned there was a shipment from Fat Quarter Quilt Shop on its way.  It was in my mail box when I got home.  Four yards for the background of Kolonization (aka American Quilter's Stitch-Along) that is one of my 2022 UFOs.  I also picked up some more Aurfil threads in orange.

Sunday Stash Report, January 2, 2022

 

And just like that we are already into day two of the new year...  I'm planning something special to bring to you a little bit later today.  I might just be able to edit this post and add it; well I'm going to try=^.^=

As we heralded in the new year I was sorting through the neutrals set aside for Kyushu (aka Rhododendron Trail) Part 3.  Three parts behind am I on Bonnie Hunter's 2021 Winter Mystery.

Using 2 1/2" strips and the Essential Triangle Tool the sets were cut into the "wings" that will be added to Part 1.  I have plans today to hand sew as it has been a very busy week cooking along with visiting family and enjoying Tim's new toy!  I'm ready for hours of sitting in my favorite chair, feet up, and kitties surrounding me.  Three projects are calling my name!

This is the first stash statistics of the year.  I have lots of projects to work on where fabrics were purchased during 2021.  Certainly there will need to be adds along the way, but hopefully it won't be anywhere near what was last year.  I already have something coming from Fat Quarter Quilt Shop =^.^= that will put me in the red for next week's report!

2021 At A Glance, January 1, 2022

Once again we have all experienced a year of COVID.  How many masks have you made to get through this pandemic that never seems to go away.  I started back to work full time at our campus in October.  It is not so fun getting up early n the morning, but I'd rather be in the office. 

I completed 20 projects this year; which is down quite a bit from last year.  206 yards of cotton moved under my needle with a new Pfaff Performance Icon.  As you know I come up with some crazy names for my projects with help from family and friends.  Kreepy Kompanions, Kai, Koyo, and Kofi are just a few from 2021.

I fell short in finishing my 2021 UFOs.  Four remain to complete along with the new 12 that make up the 2022 UFO List.  You can view it now on my blog (look for the tab at the top of the home page).  The 2019 UFO finished that I am calling Komplex Kontents.  I love it!

I participated in my guild's charity projects benefiting the YMCA's Battered Womens Program supporting Becky's House and each of the monthly BOMs.  I even won in October with the cute Punkin' Patch block designed by Bonnie Hunter.  I made more projects that were not on my 2021 UFO List, which is in part why four remain unfinished.  Other than the projects I have already shared above here are the other finishes that took place.  You can see them through the links if you choose =^.^=

This first day of 2022 has me at Part 3 of Bonnie Hunter's 2021 Mystery, Rhododendron Trail and she has already released through Part 6.  I will be calling this one Kyushu where a particular orange rhododendron flower can be found.  I changed out the suggested pink for orange.  As you have heard before I can't resist a Bonnie Hunter Mystery!
