I have a quilt back from Kerry's Quilting!  Always excited to get one.  Wanted to share the quilting because this is one of the reasons it has taken so long to quilt.  We were searching for a zinnia design to match the border fabric.  One finally came along recently and Konfidential went almost immediately on the quilting frame.  The thread is called Rainy Days and looks awesome on both the front and the back.  Below I'm about to trim it up.  I have the binding prepared, sleeve and label ready.  Guess what I'll be doing tomorrow while watching Dancing With The Stars?  Konfidential was a Lakeside Mystery Workshop at Road to California Quilt Show I did with Karen Sievert and her design Expect The Unexpected.
Most of my sewing over the weekend was on the Clue Challenge for Sunshine Quilters that is due in June.  Won't be sharing anything until after the reveal, but these two publications include part of my design...
Do you have sewing plans this week?  If you do I hope you find time to make them happen.  See other fine projects through the links at Patchwork Times.  Enjoy your week!

Sunday Stash Report, March 3, 2013

I did some adding this week...  I did pretty good considering I was on the first part of the Cruisin' Quilters Shop Hop that runs March 1-10.  I made it to five shops and only brought home for projects that needed something more to finish.  The purchases are for Seven Sisters Simplified which I've yet to name with a "K"; Koda's Keeper; and finally Konfidential.  It was tough but I did restrain myself with purchasing a new brown inner border fabric for Koda's Keeper.  I knew I had something that would work from my stash.

Seven Sisters Simplified.  Got any ideas for a "K" name?

Koda's Keeper

Konfidential
It is a real guess on how much fabric I pulled out of my stash for Koda's Keeper.  It was a block exchange that took place in 2007-2008.  I included some fabrics for possibilities and participants added some in too.  Think I'll count the purchase for the outer border, inner border, 2 yards for the top because that sounds good, the binding and the back.  8 yards should be somewhere in the ball park.  So here's my numbers for this first week of March 2013.

Used this week:  8 yards
Used YTD:  71.75 yards
Purchased this week:  8.25 yards
Purchased YTD:  21.75 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2013:  50 yards

Check back tomorrow to see progress on Khambray my March UFO with www.52Quilts.com.  There are other quilters using up their fabrics.  Find time to visit their websites through the links at www.patchworktimes.com.

I started assembling Khambray yesterday when I finished organizing my Shop Hop purchases.  I'm loving what I see so far.  I'll be back at it today for awhile.  So nice having the pieces already cut...allowed me to have results really quick.  My first impression is that I may want to keep the gold with teal out of the centers. Still lots of time to figure that part out, but my instincts are telling me it doesn't fit.  If you are just tuning in Khambray is my March 2013 UFO Challenge (#1) with www.52Quilts.com.

I will find time to finish Koda's Keeper borders and assemble Konfidential's back now that I have all I need to finish them.  There's a possibility of seeing Kerry tomorrow so I'd like to be ready with these two projects if it works out that way.

Enjoy your Saturday!

After The Hop! Friday, March 1, 2013

I've had a fun day running around San Diego country during the first day of the Cruisin' Quilters Shop Hop.  I visited five different shops.  The shops were Starry Night Hollow, Quilt in a Day, Fat Quarters Quilt Shop, Grand Country Quilters, and Crazy 9 Patch.  I was even a winner at Quilt in a Day; lucky #26 got me the pattern in the top left.  The theme of this years run "Just Deserts!  Each shop featured a deserts pattern and a recipe to compliment it.  Grand Country Quilters is a new shop that I'd not been to previously.  Here's what I brought home...

Five FQs from Fat Quarters Quilt Shop and Grand Country Quilters.  The to add to my Seven Sisters Simplified project that I started at Road to California Quilt Show workshop in January.

Konfidential
To finish what I need for the back of my #13 UFO Challenge, yardage (on the far right) from Quilt in a Day.

Koda's Keeper
From Crazy 9 Patch the yardage at the top right for the remaining portions of the outer border.  I had thought to get a solid but this small dot is a very good match.  I will need to add an inner border to set it apart from some of the beiges.  I was nudged to buying a brown, but I knew my stash would have something   that I could use.

My last quilty news to share is #1 UFO for March.  Marti from 52 Quilts pulled this months project today.  Mine is already cut and ready to sew.  I'll be eager to get this one going.  Check out my 2013 UFO list on the side bar for more information on Khambray.
Khambray
Come back and visit soon to see my progress on all these projects.  Happy Sewing!

Sunday Stash Report, February 17, 2013

I wasn't able to get a photo of the entire quilt because it is just too big!  This project by Karen Sievert called Expect the Unexpected was one of the classes I took at Road to California Quilt Show in January.  It was the mystery on Friday night that started at 6pm and went until midnight.  This project is my #13 UFO; my extra credit done way ahead of schedule.  I've got something to report as USED!

I did add to my stash though at Bits and Pieces for the Beauty 'n Check Workshop.  I knew I had to purchase 2.5 yards, but kept having cut the wrong fabrics.....urgh!

Used this week:  16.25 yards

Used YTD:  62.25 yards
Purchased this week:  8.25 yards
Purchased YTD:  13.5 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2013:  48.75

Until next time enjoy your sewing room and find inspiration to move your fabrics like other quilters through the links at Patchwork Times.

Moving slow on this project, but the momentum is sure to pick up this week.  Mom is on her way home to Maryland this morning.  Its always sad when she goes.  There are just too many miles separating us.  Mom is making a similar project (and so is Kerry).  The three of us took a class at Road to California Quilt Show a couple of weeks ago.  This project is Expect the Unexpected by Karen Sievert.  It was the Friday Night Mystery.  We didn't get much done the night of the class.  Once the units are cut and assembled it goes together pretty fast.

Sunday Stash Report, February 10, 2013

Nothing to report on either Used or Purchased this week.  Mom and I have been doing all sorts of things that have taken us away from the sewing room.  Sad that she'll be leaving bright and early tomorrow, but we've had a great last three weeks together.  I have had a chance to do some weaving on my rug.  I think I'm about half of the way now.  It has been great using fabrics that I have had stored for a long time, bits and pieces mostly...this being a big reason for wanting to make the rugs.

Today we are heading out to Kerry's for lunch.  We'll also visit Memory Lane Quilt Shop and Rosie's.  These are two quilt shops that are a must when Mom visits.  I'm continuing to work on my Expect the Unexpected project from the Mystery at Road to California Quilt Show.  I've got my #4 February UFO to get started on and....Tuesday I start yet another project in a class.  My sewing room is definitely becoming cluttered!

Used this week:  0 yards
Used YTD:  46 yards
Purchased this week:  0 yards
Purchased YTD:  5.25 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2013:  40.75

Last set of 9" Neutral String blocks from the swap arrived last week.  It has been a busy time with my Mom in town.  With that said...last night we plunged into the "temporary storage area" and proceeded to sort out all the blocks.

We sorted and sorted and sorted some more...checked and checked and checked again to make sure we had each grouping correct.  Here are the 19 groupings ready to put in their perspective owners packaging.

Today I have them in my trunk ready for pick up or mailing across country.  I am pretty certain Betty, Bonnie Sue, Chris, Collette, Debbie, Debra, Jeanne, Jennifer, Joan S, Joan T, Karen, Kerry, Liz, Louise, Mary, Susie, Teresa, and Theresa will be excited when they have their blocks.

On to another project, Expect the Unexpected by Karen Sievert.  This is the project that I have as my extra credit "lucky 13" with this year's UFO challenge.  (January's Parade at 52 Quilts can be seen HERE.)  I finished my January UFO on time.  February UFO is a paper pieced patriotic design that finishes at the tiny size of 13 1/2" square.  I have the pattern copied to paper waiting for a bit of time to look through my stash for the fabrics I'll be using.  The calendar doesn't stand still so I'll be getting this one going pretty soon.

And last to share a FINISH!  My Mom has been working on this quilt since she's been visiting.  It is a spider web string quilt that she brought to finish.  Mom came with about half of the blocks done.  She found the border fabric in my stash, a wonderful choice with all the other blues.  The pattern is by Craftsy and is called Broken Spider Web.  Bonnie Hunter also has this same pattern on her website HERE if you'd rather her directions.

Here we are the first Monday of February...before you know it we'll be through another year.  My goodness time doesn't slow down.  I have been working on my #13 UFO (the project for extra credit).  It is from the Mystery Workshop I took at Road to California Quilt Show last weekend.  The project is called Expect the Unexpected by Karen Sievert.  I have been trimming and making more blocks, but just breaking the surface with what will be needed for the project.  I'm using my Bloc-Loc ruler to square up the HSTs.

This is the project that has most of my attention.  Something new I am trying to use up some scraps.  The first row is the hardest, but I think I have gotten the hang of it.  You stop after six to eight rows and turn the loom to do the next set of six to eight rows.  Then flip it back and do another six to eight rows continuing the process until the weave meets in the middle.  Apparently there is a tendency for an hour glass shape to come about in the middle if you only worked from one end to the other.  The warp strips (running up and down) are 1 1/4" wide.  The weaving strips (running side to side) are 2 1/2" wide.  I've used anything brown and green for my first rug.  It goes pretty fast and uses 17 yards of fabrics.

On my Design Wall are three projects.  The middle project is my Mom's.  The first three rows are sewn into blocks.  She's working on the last row now.  The projects on the sides are mine.  A bear block exchange on the left that only needs settings to pull the blocks together and on the right are the first two blocks of the second workshop I took at Road to California Quilt Show, Seven Sisters Simplified.  Lots going on!

For more inspiration see other quilters works through the links at Patchwork Times.  Enjoy your first week of February!

It was a wonderful quilt show this weekend.  Besides the fabric purchases that I made on Sunday these items made there way to my sewing room.  My Mom won an opportunity to make a selection from a treasure chest and I benefited!  I made the selection of the FQ brown/black batik.  Thank you Mom...  I took advantage of Olfa's show special with a cutting mat.  Finally this nice pattern by Annie Unrein called High Voltage.  I've been doing a lot lately with black/white and white/black prints so this had pattern had to come home to use up some of the scraps.

This is the first class I took with Marti Mitchel.  It's Seven Sisters Simplified.  The "simplified" part is not having to do "Y" seams.  It's all straight line stitching.  I finished two blocks during class.  I'm being a bit challenged in locating the right gray fabric for the backgrounds.  The rest of my fabrics are all reproduction.  The solid parts (triangles) will be a solid gray.  This may change as the quilt comes together, but that's the current plan.  I'll be working on this one the next couple of weeks.

Next up is Expect the Unexpected by Karen Sievert that was the mystery on Friday night.  There isn't a photo in the pattern of the quilt put together beyond the one I've shown below.  Sorry my first two blocks are a bit rumpled...  I've got parts put together but these are the only two blocks that were finished.  It's quite a beautiful design.  This project is my #13 UFO Challenge..."for extra credit".

See other quilters work if you have time.  Monday's can be quite inspirational through all the link ups provided at Patchwork Times.

Krayons
I do have one finish for this week.  Krayons was started at Road to California Quilt Show in January of this year.  I'm so pleased to have it done before the show takes place in 2013!  The pattern can be found in Karen Eckmeier's Layered Waves book.  It is called Scrappy Layered Log Cabin.
Road to California Mystery
I got around to cutting out one of the two projects that I'll need for the next show.  The show is to be held the last part of January.  This year I'm excited that my Mom will join Kerry and I.  Southwest had a great deal recently on flights.  I've been wanting my Mom to attend and it worked out perfectly.  Anxious to see what the mystery "Expect the Unexpected" will become.
Karen's Knines
The second project that I'm close to finishing is Karen's Knines.  This one is Sister's Nine Patch by Bonnie Hunter.  There's more than one way to cover up the "industrial look" of the foam board before I can get the black batting.  Besides the setting triangles on the right top portion this is the size of the quilt.  The bottom portion has three more rows yet and the quilt will be square.  The design wall ends around the light switch!  I'll be sewing the rest of the day putting the blocks and rows together.
Karen's Knines
For now I'll report yardage for Krayons.  Next week I'll report Karen's Nines.
Used this week: 6.75  yards
Used YTD: 270 yards
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 135.25 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2012: 134.75 yards

I have my Quilt Square Quilt Along block for October finished.  This is a year long project with Jo's Country Junction where Lori Smith's Quilt Square patterns #1, #4, and #6 were used.  I never did find on Jo's website where to "link up" September's block (the 9-patch on the bottom right).  I suppose I'll be able to show it too when I "link up" in October.  Only two more blocks for this year to go.  I think I've got the color mixed up enough now.  Maybe I'll tackle the applique offering if Jo has a "your choice block" with pattern #6 as she's had with #1 and #6.  These patterns are designed to be small quilts, but I've chosen to make mine into a sampler.  Time is coming to start thinking about a setting.

I went during my lunch break on Tuesday to Quilters Paradise in Escondido, CA.  I thanked my buddies for allowing me to spend more than they did combined...LOL!  The entire purchase has a project to go into so none of it will collect much dust.  The fabrics above (less the batik to the right) are for the Mystery Class that I'll be taking at Road to California quilt show in January.  There is a lot of precutting to do on this project.  It makes a huge quilt.  I'm a bit concerned that the scale of the focus fabric is a bit big.  The instructions didn't include what scale the design should be.  I may drop the instructor an email to see what she thinks about how my fabrics will work.

I also purchased eight 1/2 yard pieces of mostly neutral batiks.  I took a 2 1/2" strip off all but one for building up a jelly roll that my Mom will use in the class she takes at "Road".  The rest of these less the redish batik will be used in one of the projects from the book below.  I'm still undecided which of the designs I'll make.

After getting the Quilt Square Quilt Along block finished I worked on cutting the last of the pieces for Knoted from the collection of batiks I showed yesterday.  Knoted is my final UFO for 2012 to complete.  I'm hoping to work on it yet this week.  Now that the cutting is done I'll fly right through it.  There may just end up being three quilts in my trunk to get to Kerry's Quilting!  I'm excited in that Knickles is finished and ready for me.  Just need the opportunity to get to Kerry's.

No sewing tonight for me.  DH and I are going to a concert at the Sports Arena in San Diego.  Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler will be crooning for us.  DH has enjoyed Bob Dylan music since his teens; he's not one of my favorites...maybe he's better in person?  Mark Knopfler is popular from the Dire Straights as the lead singer.  Mark has been on his own now for quite some time.  He doesn't perform much in the United States, so when he's around you got to see him!  Before the concert we'll be having Phil's Barbecue.  We've got a fun evening planned that starts with a shortened work day!
