Karolina Krossroads (Carolina Crossroads)

Karolina Krossroads is completely finished.  I love the way it turned out.  The solid fabric last two borders were needed to calm the quilt down.  All those 1 1/2" squares made for a busy project.  I enjoyed the sewing on this one.  Carolina Crossroads is one of Bonnie Hunter's earliest mysteries.  As I have been saying there is only Double Delight to sew before I've made all of her mysteries back to 2006.

Kirilowii (Indigo Way)

Kirilowii is also a mystery from Bonnie Hunter.  Because of a mix up in the size of the back on my part (Kerry to the rescue); it arrived yesterday.  In the grand sequence of things Karolina Krossroads was sewn with many of the scraps from Kirilowii.  Yep there is a reason why they look similar.  Kirilowii is 
Bonnie Hunter's Indigo Way; her 2024 mystery.  I love the pieced border.  Thinking of what should be the binding fabric...one solid piece or a pieced?  I'll have to open my stash to see what's available that will compliment this project.  Another 2024 UFO complete!

These fabrics complete the requirements for Cats in Pajamas project (2025 UFO).  From Stash comes the last three cats.  From Purchased comes the last three pajamas.  I got the new fabrics from Missouri Star.  If you are in need of flannels I'd check Missouri Star first as they have a very big selection to choose from.

All my dress/collar & belt kits to be swapped in the Millie's Dresses project are done.  I will be cutting the background out for my project this week.  Our swap is only for the dress/collar & belt.  The background is of our own selection.  Pretty clever is our coordinator, Pam, to orchestrate the swap in this fashion.

My stash is growing this week as I get through the collection of fabrics for two projects; both of which will be sewn during the Sunshine Retreat happening May 8 - May 11 in Temecula, CA.  It will be a little while before I will be claiming used =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, April 20, 2025

 

Krushed is complete.  I opted for the pieced border rather than one piece orange.  Nothing like finishing with a pieced border.  I will be using 90 10" squares for a back.  My AccuQuilt will get some use today.  A red binding is what's on my mind today from the red print used consistently in the top.  With my Orange Crush by Bonnie Hunter finished, I am left with only Double Delight to complete all of her mysteries going back as far as 2006.

Karolina Krossroads came in from Kerry, as a matter of fact it arrived the day I returned from my parents home.  I have it trimmed down and sleeve being put together from the trimmings.  A red one fabric binding is my preference.  A search in my stash will take place today.  Carolina Crossroads is much like all of Bonnie Hunter's designs in that the tops are busy and the eye needs a place to rest when you get to binding selection.

Kirilowii is with Kerry for quilting.  A back was provided that was not wide enough for the quilt.  Not certain how I messed this up, but Kerry has rescued me by picking up a fabric that matches and will sew it into the too lean width.  This will be my next project to get back from her.

I took home with me two projects that mom hasn't gotten around to completing.  They are both a bit overwhelming for her right now I think.  The first is a patriotic top made with the Broken Courthouse Steps pattern that is finished now.  I pulled together 42 10" squares for a back.  That's what is currently on my design wall.  Not sure if there is enough or that it will work at all are strips using fabrics from the back for a binding.  I may just end up with a navy binding.

Cats in Pajamas Project

Friday was a Rosie's day of quilting for me.  A few fabrics were purchased for stash building and for two projects, Millie's Dresses and Cats in Pajamas.  The Millie's Dresses back was not a Rosie's purchase rather from one Christy proctored for several participating in the swap.  I did a bunch of cutting units for these two projects on this day.  My Design Wall Monday post will share more about these two projects so do return tomorrow.

Sunday Stash Report, March 16, 2025

Karolina Krossroads was finished.  This is Bonnie Hunter's first mystery called Carolina Crossroads.  (In case you are noticing the white dot at the top right...it's the ceiling fan pull LOL.)

I set about to use one of my new dies from AccuQuilt, the 10" square.  I have a bunch of neutrals that needed to be tamed!  Nearly all of these are of a word theme.  I needed nine across and down for Karolina Krossroads.  The last row is on the floor, you can just about make it out.

The back is all together and just like that it all fits on my wall.  It will soon come down and along with the Karolina Krossroads top it will be on its way to Kerry for magic =^.^=

Sharing also today February BOM coordinated by Hallie and WON by Teresa.  I didn't make the March meeting so it will go in the mail to Teresa.

Jennifer was good to send me the March BOM.  I thought Gina was on for March, there seems to have been a swap?  I like how the purple batik accented the fun background.  I used the triangles on a roll for my HSTs.

There was a bit of an add this week, the last of the Challenge fabric arrived.  I'll be sharing more on this after May's meeting.  A big used with Karolina Krossroads!

Wednesday Workings, March 12, 2025

 All set now for stitching the rows together.  This project is on point, a surprise to me because it doesn't look as though it would be.  I will be using the two fabrics on the left to finish it off.  Bonnie used scrappy for both inner and outer border, but I will only use one fabric for each of the borders.  Now to think of a "K" name...  Maybe Karolina Krossroads!

I have the top assembled and am working on the setting triangles.  They are more work than the blocks!  There are four done so far with several more to go.

There is a mess on my sewing table making these units.  I will be busy with these this week.  There should be more to show on Wednesday.  Carolina Crossroads =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, March 9, 2025

I have been sewing a lot as I get through a cold picked up last Monday.  DH and I have been keeping distance so as not for him to catch it.  As you can see I am quickly moving through Carolina Crossroads.  This project is Bonnie Hunter's first mystery.  The pattern is available in her first book, Scraps & Shirttails.

I have sewn all the block units and only have about four more to get to nine patches.  The remaining parts are the setting triangles and corners.  She designed this project with two outer simple borders.  I will have to see what blues I have left to finish it off correctly.

Saturday's mail brought two projects back to me from Kerry.  Klondike Krew really needs the notions to make these happy snowmen.  I have black buttons for eyes and carrot buttons for noses.  Red binding will work well.  Binding all ready to apply.

Kolorado came at the same time.  This project was a gift years ago from Marti.  I hope she takes a look at this post and has a treat that it was finished.  It will make a lovely table runner during the holiday season.

I have been getting fabrics for the Sunshine Quilt Guild 2024-2025 Challenge.  I don't have it all quite yet, but a 3.75 yards have arrived so far.

All done and ready for Kerry is Kirilowii.  It feels good to have a big completion.  Now what's next?

Using up my Accuquilt Go! to cut the scraps for another project, but of course!  Another Bonnie Hunter so that I can use up scraps from Kirilowii.  This one requires neutrals, reds, and blues.  I have a very good start on the blues that are already in the project basket.  I will be sorting through my already 1.5" scraps for the neutrals and reds then I'll use the Accuquilt Go! to get me the requirements.  This project is Bonnie Hunter's first mystery called Carolina Crossroads.  No sewing yet as there are other projects to get through first.

While at Quilt In A Day this past Friday I learned about the Shop Hop in the area starting next week.  Sharing with you the details.  I may hit one up.  I was a bit surprised that Rosie's wasn't part of the event.

Tossed Nine-Patch scaled down was demonstrated during the Accuquilt Club event too.  Isn't it cute?  I like the smaller size and the 5" squares are part of the pattern.  They added a rick-rack to the mix too.  I just might be looking for this pattern!

What I will be working on is the Sunshine 2024-2025 IDIOM Quilt Challenge.  I have the pattern and fabrics ordered that should be arriving from four different vendors starting later this week.  You know I can't share!

Taking Kirilowii off my Design Wall and replacing with a very cute heart project my mom made the blocks for.  I will be adding some fabrics for border(s) and/or sashing and a back.  When I have it all together it will be sent back for her to donate to a charity in her area.  Mom has a team to quilt (Sherry) and bind (Dale) for her.  Teamwork!  I will be sharing her project on Wednesday.  Until next then happy sewing =^.^=

Design Wall Monday, February 24, 2025

This is Kirilowii's A blocks.  There are 36 of these nine patch blocks.  The three at the top right are sewn together.

These are the next three being trimmed up.  Just a small sliver can throw the block assembly off.  It is a tedious process indeed.  I have pulled the other units off the wall and will be trimming tonight at the pantry table while watching TV.

Kirilowii is a 2024 UFO for me.  It is a Bonnie Hunter Winter Mystery from two years ago.  By the way notice the new tab on my home page.  I've created a list of all the annual mysteries starting with Mystery I, Carolina Crossroads.  I've got this one on my To Do list for this year.  It is in her book Scraps & Shirttails I.  I won't be doing it in shirts, but plan the same red, blue, and neutral colorway.  First though is finishing Kirilowii!
