Didn't this pattern by Buggy Barn come out cute?  We'll be offering chances to win it in October at the Sunshine Quilt Guild's bimonthly opportunity quilt fundraiser.  Kerry and I pieced it over the last couple of weeks.  It's ready for quilting this week with a variegated orange thread in a swirly design.  If you are interested in the pattern it is in the Frightfully Crazy pattern book called Crazy Jacks.  The pattern book also contains three other great designs; the 3D If the Hat Fits with witches on brooms (their feet dangling off the broom stick).

Tomorrow I'll be dropping off three quilts for the San Diego Quilt Show that is this week September 8-10.  My entries are #146 Kandy Korn, #148 Kiwiberry, and #147 Krimson Khat.  I have all three for sale...interested?  Come check out the show if you are in San Diego.

I've been assembling Kolonial the Bonnie Hunter design called Jamestown Landing too.  I have more than half the 840 HSTs sewn, dog ears away, and pressed.  The rest have one half of the sewing done; waiting for me on my sewing table today.  I will also be working on more of the strip blocks.  I had a great Friday morning working on this project.  In two hours I went through two bobbins...love assembly piecing!  This will be the next project to report used.  Sure is helping me to close the drawer to my pink/red stash tote...

I've got lots to do in my sewing room.  Starting off with these two quilts that need binding.  On the left is 2009 Kruisin Kwilt and on the right Karibbean.  I've probably got to purchase something for 2009 Kruisin Kwilt for the binding.  I've used every bit of fabric used in the top for the back.  Heck the back is almost as pieced as the top.  Both will needs labels too that I've got printed and ready to put on.  Leading me into the next projects that need to be completed...

These three need labels.  Katching Kisses on top, Kotton Kandy Kocktail next, and Krimson Khat on the bottom.  I've also got the label ready to put on Kandy Korn and Karousel (both not pictured).  I'd have had these labels on already but was trying to print as many as I could on one sheet of the costly Printed Treasures fabric sheets as I could. 

Last up and unfortunately not too much progress today is my #4 UFO Meadow Clary block for my Kourageous project.  April 30th is the due date for this block.  It is coming along nicely.  A total of 99 pieces made into 21 sections for a 6" finished block!  I'm using primarily snake skins for this flower.

I have so much going on right now it's getting difficult to figure out what's next.  I've been working on deadlines first certainly.  Last week I was getting ready for my Part 1 - Scrappy Cutting and Sewing blog post for Quiltmaker's 2011 Mystery Quilt-Along that is being hosted on Quilters Club of America.  This post is available today.  Check out the action there and sign up FREE if you want to quilt-along.  I'd love to have you join the group where I'm the host!  Hoffman Batiks are my fabric line with the Quilt-Along. I'm also making a second project using red, white, and black fabrics that I'll show the end results of each part here on my blog.  Here's how Part 1 ends.

The next project I needed to get done is the BOM for my quilt guild Sunshine Quilters April meeting that is tomorrow.  This is called Flower Patch.  The flower block will be used for the middle and the snowball green block will be for the winner to use in the border.

Here is Kandy Korn all finished.  This is a Judy Laquidara design called Peaches and Dreams.  Some of you may have helped me with this quilt's name.  Originally I'd thought to call it Kreamed Korn, but Kandy Korn definitely sounds more appropriate.

Next up is a quilt that I've yet to name.  I'm trying to have the top done by next Monday because it's a pattern by Cathy Farris taken at a workshop in January called Lakeside Mystery II at the 2011 Road to California Quilt Show.  Cathy Farris will be our guest speaker at Canyon Quilt Guild the April meeting.  I'm appliqueing the center medallion called "Orange Blossom" right now.  I have all the borders done.  It may not be finished but I'll be taking it for Show and Tell one way or another!

If all of this isn't enough...did you see the Better Homes and Gardens American Patchwork and Quilting June 2011 Issue?  Starting on page 30 there is another pattern I want to make.  I've got loads of stash green and ivory I want to use...red might be a trip to the quilt shop, but this one just has to be made!  It's called Twist on Tradition by Avis Shirer.  I also have lots of Bonnie Hunter bonus squares already sewn to be part of this gorgeous design.  And of course another Bonnie Hunter pattern in the May/June 2011 Quiltmaker Issue called Lady of Lake Erie is screaming to be made.  Again I've got those bonus squares and a huge selection of blues for this one popping out of their storage bins ready to be sewn.

There will be a short delay in launch of Quiltmaker's Mystery Quilt-Along 2011 online at Quilters Club of America. I'm anxious as I'm sure you are as well. It's a great project and well worth the short delay.

Tonight I spent time trimming up Kandy Korn. I got this Judy Laquidara pattern called Peaches and Dreams free from her website Patchwork Times. I'll be showing photos of it once the binding is in place. Thanks Judy for the great design. The quilting came out great as it always does from Kerry's Quilting.

Sunday Stash Report, November 14, 2010

Good morning, it's a beautiful day here in sunny San Diego.  We've had some great weather of late, cool and crisp and totally clear.  Makes for a beautiful morning walk.  I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for Friday to arrive and Clue #1 of Bonnie Hunter's mystery project Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll.  There certainly are a lot of different fabric choices being made by those who plan to sew along.

This week I've been spending my sewing hours with binding Krumbs, readying Kandy Korn for Kerry's Quilting, sewing up a surprise Christmas gift for Adel, and NOT working on my last 2010 UFO (2009 Kruisin Kwilt).  Instead of working on the UFO that's due the end of November this gift for Adel has gotten my attention most of the time this week.  It's a tree skirt from a pattern in the Special Holiday Issue of The Quilter 2009 called Christmas Patch by Christina McCourt. Adel is crazy about Betty Boop, so this one is using scraps (of course) from my stash.  Today I'll be quilting it with the hopes of having binding to work on later today.  So this is the stash that I'm reporting as used this week.

Tomorrow is Canyon Quilt Guild's November meeting.  It's our holiday pot luck and challenge meeting for the year since we don't meet in December.  I've still been thinking about what to bring.  I always like to bring something towards an entree, but homemade which is pretty difficult since I work all day and go directly to the meeting after work.  For several years now I've been making something in a crock pot under my desk at work.  It's ready by the time I'm enroute to the meeting.  Only a couple downsides to this 1) I've got to prepare something that is not too messy to transport and 2) the aroma of what's cooking waifing up from below my desk about half way through the day....  The challenge part of the meeting this year is to make an apron of your design.  Judging is by membership for three different categories.  I did not participate in this year's challenge--just too much going on right now for me.  I'm sure there'll be lots of clever aprons as this is a group of gals with amazing imaginations.

I suppose there are lots of reasons to have UFOs, but this one certainly can be said in bold and spelled out in capitals because I'm just not inspired to get it done.  Good thing I'm a stickler for getting done what I say I'm going to do!  I'll be pulling fabrics from my stash for this one after the tree skirt project is off my sewing surface.  Need this UFO started and in full swing yesterday!  Got to get ready for Friday's Clue #1!

These are the fabrics that Kerry and I have selected for Bonnie Hunter's 2010 Mystery called Roll Roll Cotton Boll.  Her fabric selections were shared on November 1 with Clue #1 to be released on November 19.  The world of Bonnie-ites is humming on Quiltville Chat with anticipation.  Of course online the Quiltville Chat Yahoo Group has a folder of all the fabrics participants are choosing from their stash (and cover your ears stash users...) or purchases at quilt shops around the globe.  There are participants from Canada, Australia, England, Israel and certainly others along with all of us around the United States.

Bonnie certainly knows how to shake up a bunch of quilters!

I'm still cutting 10 1/2" blocks for the back of Kandy Korn (formerly Kreamed Korn...).  All along I was debating on Kandy Korn because the colors of the quilt "felt" more like the popular Halloween candy, but I kept telling myself that Kreamed Korn rolled off the tongue better.  Several of you commented that it had more the Kandy Korn look so I've complied (without too much struggle I might add).  I'll be saving "Kreamed" for another time.  Maybe it will be right for a shades of brown scrappy quilt I'm going to put together....how's "Kreamed Kappuccino" sound?

As I mentioned earlier I'm starting on my last 2010 UFO this week.  It's due right around the corner already on the last day of this month.  It will be made with the block designs gathered from the 2009 Cruisin Quilt Run that is held annually in March.  The designs are all stars and fabrics from my red, white, and blue stash totes will be used.  This one is to be called 2009 Kruisin Kwilt...now that was easy!

Design Wall Monday, November 8, 2010

Monday again and the second week into this 11th month of 2010.  Already the stores are playing holiday music and that big shopping day just after Thanksgiving is nearly upon us.  This is a short work week for me and Tuesday is Sunshine Quilt Guild's November Meeting.

My Design Wall shows Kreamed Korn complete.  Back and batting will be finished this week and be ready for Kerry's Quilting drop off on Saturday.

My next project will be my last 2010 UFO challenge for the year.  It is a collection of block patterns collected from all the quilt shops that participated during the 2009 Cruisin' Quilters Run that takes place in March.  I'll be doing this project in red, white, and blues.  I've already coined this one 2009 Kruisin' Kwilt.  It's due November 30th.  You'll see more of this in the days ahead.

Sunday Stash Report, November 7, 2010

Really late tonight in submitting my report.  There was a reason though!  I've been working all day to finish Kreamed Korn.  I've just finished putting on the last border for my project which is a smaller one than that of what JudyL's Peaches and Dreams directions called for.  I stopped just after the background border that borders the pieced one.  Mine finishes at 74" x 86".  I'll be assembling the back 10 1/2" (80) squares for the back tomorrow.  Kreamed Korn will have a dark binding from all the dark fabrics I have left.  I really stirred the bottom of my stash to come up with enough oranges.  So I'll be claiming yardage today since this project requires nothing more.  Question...when a pattern doesn't call out yardage fabrics as most scrappy designs don't...how do you calculate yardage?


Kerry and I decided on a different direction of fabrics than what I first pulled from my stash that will be used for BonnieH's mystery Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll.  I interpreted her colors as brights and my quilt buddy Kerry suggested something different.  We are going with Bonnie's suggested colors which are a bit toned down than my first pick.  I've got very little double pinks to add, but plenty of greens and browns to get us through (along with a good variety of neutrals).  This is a joint project so together we selected the red constant fabric yesterday at Rosie's Calico Cupboard Quilt Shop in La Mesa.  We'll wait to decide on what to do with the green border that was suggested.  I've got my half already named Kotton.  (Kerry purchased the red constant fabric so that's why no add to my count!)  Waiting now for Clue #1 that's scheduled for release on or about November 19th.


Between working on BonnieH's mystery I will be working on my last 2010 UFO that is due on November 30th.  This one will be red, white, and blue fabrics and will be called 2009 Kruisin Kwilt.  The blocks patterns are what was collected in 2009 during the Cruisin' Quilters Run in March around San Diego.


Last I got back Krumbs from Kerry's Quilting yesterday.  This quilt design is from BonnieH's website called Fun with Bricks.  It's preped for binding and sleeve which I fit in while working on Kreamed Korn.  I've yet to sew these pieces to the quilt, but will before Monday Night Football where I plan to do the hand sewing.

My post is late this week. It is Thursday and happens to be one more full day of work :(! Pays the bills and provides health benefits as well as retirement. One day....

I've not been very productive this week.

I spent Monday evening pulling out fabrics for the new Bonnie Hunter Mystery--had more than I thought of the chocolate browns. My quilting buddy Kerry and I will be pooling our stashes together for this project. Each of us want a smaller quilt so we'll be splitting the project in half. I've got the lions share of the pinks and probably chocolate browns. We'll combine our stash for the greens and neutrals. Finally, we'll have to figure out what to do with the constant red--sounds like a purchase is inevitable.

Tuesday evening was consumed locating and cutting fabrics for the remaining 27 component blocks for the 12" blocks needed for Kreamed Korn. Still not enough--that's when my buddy Sue on Thursday came to the rescue with some of her stash!

Wednesday I didn't do anything related to my beloved hobby. I had an unfortunate accident involving the leftover grease from frying up corn tortillas for tacos. Darn if I didn't spill the very hot liquid on my left hand finger tips. Och! Spent most of the night under COLD running water and then hand upright with Noxzema covered fingers enjoying the latest Karate Kid movie (the 2 1/2 hour movie was really good).

Today brought the BAE Systems Quilters monthly meeting. This fun group of quilters shares our lunch break exchanging projects and show and tell. I provided Shelly her 2010 Block Exchange Project the Mississippi Wheel of Fortune that I've spoken about on recent posts. Tonight I've ironed with lots of starch the orange scraps Sue brought in for Kreamed Korn. Cut them and finished sewing all 27 component blocks. Ready for tomorrow where at lunchtime Bonnie, Sue and I will have fun laying all the component blocks out into 30 12" squares (each one comprised of one 12" and three 4 1/2" blocks). Let me say that it is a great way to break the day job!

I'm looking towards assembling Kreamed Korn this weekend. The border fabric selection still to be decided upon along with the scrappy back. All in good time...

Design Wall Monday, November 1, 2010

Here we are a brand new month. One that brings in gatherings of friends and family celebrating thankfulness of harvest--heck we are talking pumpkin time. I like just about anything pumpkin! From the color orange to carving them for Halloween. From pumpkin cheese cake at Claim Jumper to the delicious pumpkin muffins that Mimi's serves up. I must not forget to mention the great bagels at Bruggers. Oh my, can you tell I love pumpkin?

I had so much fun serving the Trick or Treaters last night. One of the more clever was an I-Pod! Of course nothing like the princesses, Supermans, and Spidermans. Not many witches or warlocks came knocking at my door, but I did have a gorilla. We had just enough candy to go around--which is a good thing for our waist lines.

I spent the better part of Sunday working on Kreamed Korn in between the usual weekly chores, lunch and dinner making along with the clean up of the kitchen afterwards. Komotion and Kaos had their nails trimmed as wells as their usual Sunday combing. It was a beautiful day that I started off with a brisk morning walk. The weather is just perfect.

Kreamed Korn is coming along nicely. I have most of it together; what remains is the assembly of the major block. I have a few more oranges to locate still. I did find two potential light border fabrics which I plan to audition once the layout is determined. I still have a dark border and binding to find along with the backing. So here's a sample of what's happening with my project.

Happy Halloween Friends!
It's a beautiful day in San Diego. The weather folks called it right; Mother Nature cooperated to give us nice weather for the ghouls and goblins that will grace our doors later this evening looking for treats (or beware if they find none--tricks might be served instead)! We've got our witches cauldron of Hershey candy ready. Of course we've selected everything we like in the just right snack size in case there are leftovers! I love being home to pass out treats to all the kids. I'll admit that sometimes I'm not quite sure and end up having to ask "What Are You"?

I accepted the generosity of Memory Lane Quilt Shop in Santee with a gift of 25% an item during my birthday month. Well Bonnie Hunter says its a legal to purchase to get neutrals anytime...so no additional encouragement was needed on my behalf. I found this nice one that I brought home 3 yards of yesterday. I also have the last 2010 UFO to finish that will use mostly stash, but I will need a few white with red backgrounds to give me enough for the project. Add to my 3 yard purchase another 1/2 yard. Not really too bad, but you know I thought about reporting a purchase today.

I've been working on Kreamed Korn this week. I've got all the pieced border blocks done as well as most of the other three blocks that make up the main block. I will finish them up in the next day or so and start laying out the pieces to determine what colors look best where. I will also start looking through my stash for yardage for the solid borders of which there are four. Three are light and one is dark. I'll use a dark for the binding. During this scouting what to use for the back comes into play too. I don't have enough ecru, yellow or orange to put together the approximately 72 10 1/2" squares that will be needed. Hmmm...what can I find. I also fixed Kollette and added to Kerry's Quilting queue. I'll selected parchment colored thread and a quilting pattern called Paradise. Can't wait to get started with Bonnie Hunters Mystery Quilt Project that starts tomorrow called Roll, Roll, Cotton Bol. Yardage requirements first with the first clue out on November 19th. Enjoy the rest of what's left of October; Novmeber is upon us.

It's the middle of the week today. San Diego started getting back to it's normal weather, but towards the end of the week I'm hearing it will be back to rain. We need every bit Mother Nature can give us this time of year. I suppose we should be thankful :(. I sure hope for the Trick or Treaters that it is dry on Sunday evening for this annual event.This is Shelly's 2010 Block Exchange project. This one was a challenge with the curved piecing in the center. I'm anxious to see how the other color ways turn out as well as Shelly's finished project. This is just one piece of the master piece I'm sure she'll create.

Finally, Kollette complete and ready for quilting. I'll be selecting a dense all over quilting pattern in a thread color yet to be decided upon.  Kreamed Korn is on my sewing table. I've got several more border blocks that need to be finished yet. I do like what I'm seeing so far. I'll be cutting more 2 1/2' and 1 1/2" strips since I need loads more to finish the 30 main blocks that make up the quilts center. I'll be working on these steps the rest of the week and throughout the weekend.  This week is an Off Friday for me and that means an extra full day of sewing! Hope you have some accomplishments this week.

Here we go the start of another week...the last full one of October 2010! Imagine...just 10 weeks until 2011 rings in. Where has 2010 gone?
On my wall today is Judy's Peaches and Dreams pattern. As I mentioned yesterday no name has set in for this one yet. I've been working on the border blocks. That's what I'm showing you...today I'll spend time during my lunch break cutting some 2 1/2" by 8 1/2" strips of orange, ecru, and yellow for the larger of the four components that make up the 12" main block. I think I'll make my quilt 5 by 6 blocks like Judy's pattern, but shorten it up a bit with only one border after the pieced border. I do like the orientation that the 5 by 6 blocks presents. This project is going together fast!

Sunday Stash Report, October 24, 2010

Kollette is in it's final stages of assembly today. I'll have it all together sometime this afternoon. So I'll post yardage used in this week's report. I'll be posting a photo soon for this spring like beauty.

I sewed as much as I could on Shelly's 2010 Exchange Block for BAE Systems Quilters. I mentioned in an earlier post the pattern Mississippi Wheel of Fortune that she'll have us each make. The next step of assembly involves a template that unfortunately is at work. The template has markings that are significant when sewing the curved middle portion of the block. The blue and yellow curved pieces will go in the center of the "wheel" and the orange will be the middle. The green/green pinwheel points get cut away. Perhaps you can make it out in the instructions photo.

Kreepy (my Any Witch Way project) is finished and ready for Kerry's Quilting queue. (Sue made the suggestion of calling it Kroones...what do you think?) It was fun working on this project with my Mom. I think Mom did a better job on her witches' eyes, although mine didn't come out too bad. Kerry had a kit to take with her this weekend when she visited her Mom; I wonder if she was able to finish hers.
My next project is one designed by Judy Laquidara called Peaches and Dreams. I've been gathering my orange, yellow, and ecru strips as well as cutting some more for my quilt. I'm starting first on the border blocks. I'm only 14 blocks into the 78 that are needed for the huge 92" x 104" quilt. I'm thinking to make this one smaller. Judy has been wonderful to describe how to easily achieve this. Of course I'm already starting to figure out a "K" name. My thoughts so far are Kantalope and Kream, Kreamed Korn, Kustard, and Kreamsicle. I'll have to see what color stands out to help me decide on a name.. Kreamed Korn is winning at the moment.Here's my report for this "finally" not rainy day in San Diego.
