Sunday Stash Report, July 13, 2014

Let me begin with a purchase.  I knew I had to have this wide back when I first saw it.  It turns out that Lynne liked it for a project she was working on.  I went this week to Beverly's where I bought the rest of the bolt.  Lynne will probably need 3 yards for her project and...mine is added to my stash for something that will need it in the future.  The piece is used in my Smith Morning Mountain project.  I purchased 1 1/2 yards thinking I'd use it for both the inner border and binding.  It is a little bright so I've changed my mind to use it only for the inner border then go with a darker fabric for the binding.

Now let me finish with fabric used!  Kooter Klan is finished.  I have all the applique done and now I'm ready for Kerry to take on the quilting.  Kooter Klan is a design called Newly Hatched by Java House Quilts.

When my Mom was here a few weeks ago she made the quilt top that sits on top of these fabrics. Sorry I don't know the pattern.  Yesterday I finished the cutting of 10" squares with all leftover fabrics and put a back together as well as cutting the six strips she will need for the binding.  Most of the fabric she brought from her stash of pinks.  I did supplement with a few, but never took the time to count what was coming from my stash.  Kerry will have this one to quilt as well.

This will be my second rug.  It is made with scraps of greens and browns.  It will match the first one I made.  Tiffany started it while she was here.  She liked it so much that I've purchased the placemat size for her.  Country Threads makes and sells the looms and a book called Rugs From Rags on how to make them.  This project will use 17 yards of scraps when it is finished...

Tiffany will have Karibbean in her home soon.  She selected it from dozens that I have around my home.  It is made with all blue batik scraps.  I remember only purchasing the light blue neutral for the project.  It is a big quilt at 81" x 96" called Blue Moon by Karen Montgomery.

Sunday Stash Report, May 1, 2011

The first day of May...hard to believe we are into the fifth month of 2011 already.  Pretty soon we'll be counting down days until Christmas!  Oh, say it's not so...

I have several completions to show you today.  First up is Karousel the cute baby shower gift made for my Grand Niece that will be born mid June.  Not sure if you have a month when every family member it seems is having a birthday to celebrate, but June is the one for mine.  If timing for Leah's first born is as the doctors' are forecasting we'll have three birthdays on the same day.  Karousel was put in the mail Friday to reach it's destination in Virginia next Saturday.  Karousel is a pattern called Sea Horses from Quiltmaker Magazine All Time Favorites Spring 2002 Issue.

Next is Karibbean.  I finished the binding on this quilt called Blue Moon by Karen Montgomery Friday.  It is a big one finishing 81" x 96".  The quilting pattern called Bottle Brush is fabulous; so I've included a photo of it to see too.

I have a bit to report as purchased, but it's only because my stash failed me!  I needed something for the binding of 2009 Kruisin Kwilt and a couple more light green batiks for the next UFO I'll be tackling (will be called Komfort Kove).  It's a Theresa Eisinger design called Pinwheel Cove brought to us by Quiltmaker Jul/Aug 2010 Issue.  All of my finishes have already been counted so nothing to claim as used.  Maybe next week...  Now for the stash calculations this 18th week of 2011.

Design Wall Monday, April 25, 2011

I've got lots to do in my sewing room.  Starting off with these two quilts that need binding.  On the left is 2009 Kruisin Kwilt and on the right Karibbean.  I've probably got to purchase something for 2009 Kruisin Kwilt for the binding.  I've used every bit of fabric used in the top for the back.  Heck the back is almost as pieced as the top.  Both will needs labels too that I've got printed and ready to put on.  Leading me into the next projects that need to be completed...

These three need labels.  Katching Kisses on top, Kotton Kandy Kocktail next, and Krimson Khat on the bottom.  I've also got the label ready to put on Kandy Korn and Karousel (both not pictured).  I'd have had these labels on already but was trying to print as many as I could on one sheet of the costly Printed Treasures fabric sheets as I could. 

Last up and unfortunately not too much progress today is my #4 UFO Meadow Clary block for my Kourageous project.  April 30th is the due date for this block.  It is coming along nicely.  A total of 99 pieces made into 21 sections for a 6" finished block!  I'm using primarily snake skins for this flower.

Sunday Stash Report, August 8, 2010

I had a fulfilling week with two projects being finished. Kerry and I finished Casabarka which she will deliver tomorrow to the Humane Society. It really should do well to raise funds this year in the Fur Ball event that takes place Saturday. We sure did come down to the wire on this project. Next year we'll be sure to start a bit earlier. There are close ups on my website.

I didn't leave the house once today. We made a terrific crunchy cabbage salad for lunch and barbecued hamburgers and corn on the cob for dinner. I finished assembling Karibbean while the washer and dryer were going. This project used fabrics from my stash entirely. Not the best photo :(.

So far this week I've only found Tuesday for sewing. My quilt buddy, Kerry and I are creating a quilt for the 24th annual Fur Ball which takes place on August 14th that raises funds for the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. It is a black-tie gala that gathers in the neighborhood of 500 prestigious attendees to support the SDHS and SPCA's mission and values. We've been supporters for many years now to help make the event successful. Each year our donation becomes part of the For Your Home basket that guests bid on. This year's theme is "Casabarka", so in keeping with the theme we've made a quilt that reminds us of Casablanca. The pattern is called The Truth About and Dogs, by Kristy Duncan of Hughenden, Queensland, Australia. We started working on the project in June. It must be finished and delivered to the event coordinators on August 9th...YIKES! We are almost finished with only a few more pieces that need additional quilting and a few more pieces that need more embellishment. It is an applique project where we've used satin and blanket stitching to secure the pieces to the background. It pictures a dog, cat, bee, and butterfly in a garden of flowers. Embellishments include 1" buttons and too many to count French knots. It's all in very bright batiks that include red, blue, yellow, purple, green, raspberry, white, brown (for the dog), and gray (for the cat). I'll be sure to photo it when it's done and post.

Karibbean will have to wait until our "Casabarka" project is finished.

Design Wall Monday, August 2, 2010

Here it is Monday once again. I was lucky to finish what I presented last Monday (Kotton Kandy Kocktail) so my design wall is with a new project. This one is a Timeless Treasures pattern called Blue Moon by Karen Montgomery. The pattern features the Tonga Batiks line in 12 different navys and white for the sashing. The main block which is 12 1/2" is sewn from four 21" x 3 1/2" strips. The sets are then cut into 3 1/2" units and lastly sewn into a 16-patch block. I'll be using my navy batik stash and instead of the white for the sashing I'll be using that light blue batik with the small design that runs above the navy strips. I think the sashing gives this design a lot of movement. It's hard to tell from the pattern picture on the design wall but the second sashing counting from the outside of the quilt uses the 3 1/2" units from the basic block. I like how the design also incorporates the 4-patch blocks. Best of all this 81" x 96" quilt will use a little over 9 yards of fabric for the top alone.

I've got all the strips cut in the various widths. Need to start sewing and sub cut the background strips. This one should go together fairly quickly. I'll get back with you on progress later this week. This project I'll call Karibbean.

Not only is it the start of a new week, but the start of another month. August already! We had a beautiful day in San Diego today. The sun was shining and a real nice breeze was coming in off the ocean. Several friends got together to enjoy it and remember the birthdays of two special men, my brother and a close friend recently parted. They both would have enjoyed our celebration at the Green Flash on such a beautiful day just off the beach. Later in the day after the chores were done I headed up to my sewing room to put the finishing touches on Kotton Kandy Kocktail. This project came together nicely this past week. It finished at 55 1/2 by 70 1/2. I also got the back pieced together. I have some leftover strips from the Cotton Candy Hoffman Bali Pop that I used and some from my strips stash to make the binding as well. This project used fabrics from my stash entirely.

My next project is already selected. It will be from the Timeless Treasures pattern called Blue Moon. Mine will be coined Karibbean. I've got batiks to use for this project; several dark navy prints and a light blue that has a small design for the background that will pull all the navy prints together. More on Karibbean tomorrow.
