Fabrics arrive please!  This is where my Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 waits.  In the meantime...another project is on deck.  Another 2021 UFO start is Mistletoe.  I figure I am busy with Edystar Sitar designs so why not continue?

This is what the design will look like.  Not sure about the applique on this project.  I will have my hands full with the Mystery applique.  I thought from the start that some fancy thread work could pull off the affect.  Kerry made the same project and did the applique in the center.  Both of us prefer needle turn over the laser cut iron ons.

I'm in need of two names for these lovely projects...=^.^=

I hope your Memorial Day is spectacular.  Bring out all your red, white, and blue projects and celebrate our freedom and the official start of summer.

Sunday Stash Report, May 30, 2021

I have a finish!  Koyo completed this afternoon.  It was a very good scrap project.  Finished at 56 1/2" square.  This is one of my UFOs and it's done in May, which is a very good thing.  I have been able to get a 2021 UFO done each month this year.  Very proud of myself.

The last parts of the quilt were the sashing which took 24 sets of grays and creams.  There are three creams duplicated but none the same of the grays.

These sets made the sashing units that put the four 20" blocks together.  Yes, you would have likely thought the blocks went together in rows, but you would be wrong.  Bits at the ends of the units were used to make nine 4-patches.  Very pleased with how the outside HST came together exactly to fit the project.  I did use a red inner border instead of the burgundy suggestion.  My stash just wouldn't support the yardage needed to get me around the sashing.  Honestly since I went a bit brighter than Bonnie Hunter suggested in her Appalachian Autumn design it was right, don't you agree?  Light gray will be for the border and I will follow Bonnie's lead and make it a scrappy one.

My fabric has not arrived to continue the Laundry Basket Quilt Mystery Quilt 2021 project so I plan to dig out another UFO and get started.  Who knows what that will be.  Come check back tomorrow for what I will work on in June.

A BIG Happy Birthday to my niece, Tiffany.  It has been a rough year for her, but she has achieved and remains a strong woman, wife, and mother.  I hope the next year ahead will be a bit easier.

I'm back into my sewing after a week.  I've cut out the six blocks and the background and border parts of the recipe.  Well I'm short on fabric for the background and borders.  Honestly I'm disappointed that I didn't have enough fabric to cover the background blocks.

This is the only fabric that will get me through the background.  I've ordered more fabric from two different quilt shops.  I hope to make applique units like the laser cut ones that are offered for sale.  Makes an expensive quilt to get four packages of them.

With a few hours of sewing I should be able to get to the background pause. The last days of May, can you believe it?  Enjoy what's left of them.

This is the Warm FQ Bundle that will be needed for my Secret Stash project.  I will need a bit more of the Neutral FQs before all the fabric requirements will be met.
This is the fabric that was in all the Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 as a primary background.  My background kit was substituted with a darker cream and gold stars.  I thought I might want to wait until this fabric arrived, but decided not.  It is in the Perfect Union collection and will be easy to use in future projects that need a good neutral.

It has been a busy past week with absolutely no sewing.  I know that is odd for me, but this won't last long=^.^=  For my stash report nothing used, but have something gained.

There are lots of birthdays in starting this week and through the month of June...Birthday Cards are starting to be put in the mail!  Gifts are in the mix too.  First up is Tiffany's, then Greyson's 1st, and Kosmo and Kassy's!  Hope you have a great week ahead

Wish I had something to share today that is different.  I've been hand sewing the binding down on Kandy Katz and planning the first visits of friends and family since the pandemic took hold.

Chris and Rebecca come on Tuesday for dinner.  We will celebrate with a Korean Barbeque dinner.  First course a cabbage soup called Baechu Doenjang Guk.  I went to a local Korean market, H Mart, to get two of the ingredients.  It was certainly worth it!  Here's the recipe https://tastykitchen.com/recipes/soups/cabbage-doenjang-soup/.

The main course was Korean Barbeque.  I picked up Noh seasoning mix from Vons and will use flank steak instead of short ribs.  This was prepared and marinated over night.

Then there are sides of Jasmine rice from my rice cooker and four others.
Egg Roll Omelette called Gyeran Mari https://tastykitchen.com/recipes/sidedishes/eggroll-omelette/

Spicy Cucumber Salad called Oi Muchim https://tastykitchen.com/recipes/sidedishes/spicy-cucumber-salad-2/
Spicy Radish Salad called Saeng Chae https://tastykitchen.com/recipes/sidedishes/spicy-radish-salad/
Spinach Side Dish called Sigeumchi Namul https://tastykitchen.com/recipes/sidedishes/spinach-side-dish/

All of this will be topped off with a desert of fresh pineapple over sponge cake with Ben and Jerry's Vanilla Ice Cream!  Finally, which actually will start our evening a champagne toast to being with them after a long draught!  Many of the preparation work was done today so I could spend time with the guests and not in the kitchen =^.^=

I did download Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 Block 7, but that is as far as I got.  Tomorrow will be much the same with Block 8, and likely not back to sewing until Block 9 or Block 10.  They aren't too hard to sew it's the cutting that takes the time.

This weekend brings Don and Rita...planning on what to prepare for meals will start Wednesday.  Hope your week is full of fun things.

I learned of this Primitive Gatherings Coxcomb Medallion quilt kit on their bi-weekly Facebook Live broadcast.  (It happens on Wednesdays.)  This one is a wool/cotton kit that was $10 off the original price.  Of course, I snatched it up!  Then thread was needed...

There's the gotcha!  They sent a nice little sticky notes post-it pad too.  This Coxcomb Medallion project will finish at 17 1/2" square.  I'm building up my base for retiring...LOL!   Since I'm only counting cotton, nothing comes in this week.  Since I didn't finish anything, nothing goes used either.  Maybe next week.

I have been busy all week on the Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021.  Now through the first six blocks.  Sunday is a day of rest for this two week project; it marks the half way point of the project.

I found time this morning to spend about an hour and a half on binding Kandy Katz.  This is a big binding project.  In that time I only got around one corner, but it was a long side =^.^=

These broken dish block are fun to make.  I used my 2" finished HST-On-A-Roll paper for this block.  Had no issues and the cream/gold star versus the white/blue star is working out well.

I am loving my Design Wall through Block 6.  Tomorrow is a day of rest according to Laundry Basket Quilts =^.^=  I will be back to this come Monday!

Here's the Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 through Block 5.  I wanted to remake the four outer corners with a different fabric.  Only two of them are made when this photo was taken.

Block 5 kicked my butt.  I thought when I started with Block 2 (the outer corners) that my neutral wasn't the right one, but it was the closest.  I purchased right from Laundry Basket Quilts fabrics made for the project.  What I hadn't anticipated is that they would switch out the white/blue star for the same design but a different color way, cream/gold.  Anyway once I got to Block 5 I knew something was wrong.  That corrected...moving on.  Then I discovered the stripe in the other unit (one on the top) was going in different directions!  My Clover Seam Ripper has seen its use =^.^=

I do like how it is turning out.  On to Block 6!

Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 Block 4.  Not easy keeping up and finding time for other quilting =^.^=  I did remake four of the units on the bottom, the darker HSTs.  The light is a stripe and when put on my design wall I did not like the way the stripes were oriented on four of them.  Four units had the stripe going out and the other four going across.  This was not discussed in the cutting instructions and I did not give it any thought.  The stripe castaways will not go to waste by this scrappy quilter!

Tomorrow after Friday's Block 5 is made I will share my Design Wall.

Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 Block 3.  Never thought to twist the seams on the inside corners of 9-patch blocks.  Good tip!

Today I also had the time to prepare the binding for Kandy Katz.  The fabric to be used is a stripe.  I want the stripe to go diagonal on the quilt so it was cut on the bias.  I hope to work on stitching it to the quilt for weekend hand sewing.

Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 Block 2.  This one is done.  I used the BlocLoc Strip-Set Ruler to cut the 1 1/2" strip set units.  It made the going that much easier.  I will be putting this up on my design board soon.

Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021.  Block 1 parts.  I got a text message from Kerry wondering if I would keep to schedule on the project that today released the first of 14 recipes (one each day).  I texted back that I would probably get to cutting it, but it might get too late to sew.
You can see that I didn't go to bed on time =^.^=.  Good night!

I have been busy this week with Appalachian Autumn.  After receiving four suggestion last Wednesday will be named Koyo.  I'm told by Mary that literally Koyo means "red leaves"; it is used to refer to all the colors of "autumn leaves".  Don't you find it appropriately named?  Thank you Mary!  These are all the blocks needed for Koyo, BUT there is still a lot of sewing to do.  There is sashing that goes between four blocks with the pieces below making a zig zag looking outer border.
These are the pieces that need to be trimmed up if necessary.  The eight used in each block didn't need that much trimming after using Bonnie Hunter's method with the Essential Triangle Tool along with 2 1/2" strips.  Each will need the one "dog ear" whacked!  There will be attention paid to this project all week.  Maybe even a UFO finish this week...I sure need a finish.

Today starts the Laundry Basket Quilts 2021 Mystery project.  The first day has us using four of our color and four neutrals.  I can't wait to get started!  My Union Blues fabrics are going to be so calming to work with.  I have loved this line from the start.  There is a patriotic design that uses them and I sure hope to have enough scraps to make that one too.

I also want to get the binding on Kandy Katz...too many things and not the hours in a day to get them all done.

I had the pleasure last Wednesday to provide a virtual trunk show to the Quilters by the Bay Quilt Guild in Southern Maryland.  It was great reviewing my work from the start of my quilting journey.  Ever go back and see what you were up to years ago?  I also inspired some record keeping or journalizing ideas.  My presentation was well received and it was sad to end my visit with these ladies.

I hope you find something fun to sew during the week.  Sunshine Quilt Guild monthly meeting for me tomorrow.  How many things can I accomplish this week?  Find yourself back here on Sunday and you will find out=^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, May 9, 2021

Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful women who are a Mom!  I'm a Mom to my two beautiful kitties that turn four in just a couple of weeks.
Kosmo and Kassy give me joy each and every day.  A special wish for a wonderful day to my Mom, Sister, Niece, and Sister-in-Laws and their daughters too.  I hope you have someone pampering you where you are today.

I have had a week that has kept my mailbox busy.  First, finally received after having ordered since early March, a wool kit called Love Is All You Need.  It isn't large and has everything in the kit including the thread.

Then came the second fabric requirement for the soon to start Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 project.  These are neutrals to add to the ones that were received last week and ones you will see a bit later in this post.

Vintage Christmas May BOM arrived.  I am so far behind on this project.  It started with January BOM which is the only month that I have finished the six blocks that come each time.

Two packages came on Thursday one from my Sister that you see first.  Karen does fun things with cards and transfers.  I'm lucky to get some of these :)

I'm also lucky to receive packages that have fabrics in them that are used for padding!  Words from my Sister...  This package had lots of great padding.  Who knows what will come from them, but I promise there is no disappointment on my end.

Second package came from Mom.  I am not sure if it could have been packed with a larger assortment of goodies if she tried.  Scraps for the Winter Blues project, fabrics to add to my stash, squares 5" and 4", a Christmas Wall Hanging, Maryland Lottery Tickets, Winning California Lottery Tickets, a borrowed mask template, a 1st Place Ribbon and Medal along with photos from a stick horse made for her years ago, gosh I'm certain I've missed something.  Do I have to mention the gummy bears and cashews?

The final fabrics for the Laundry Basket Quilts Mystery Quilt 2021 project.  It starts tomorrow for two weeks.  So this makes me set for a two week long surprise to work on in the blues and neutrals that just about didn't make it in time!
Oh I almost forgot!  Kandy Katz came back from Kerry.  I have it trimmed down and ready to make binding.  The fabric above the quilt is a stripe for the binding, the white/black is the backing fabric that will be the sleeve, and the green cat with the fiery eyes will be put on the back.

So for adding to my stash well now I don't have to add in gifts so only the Laundry Basket Quilts fabrics are included in the totals.  I don't have Appalachian Autumn done yet, but very soon now!  Visit tomorrow and I will share my progress and unveil it's new name.

These are the majority of the HST units in the gray/color way.  You can see that I'm a bit low on the reds and absolutely no variety on the orange.  Definitely need to add and fix this with the remaining units needed.

These are the majority of the HST units in the cream/color way.  I did better on the red, but will need more.  Bonnie only suggested a hint of brown so this should be enough.  Probably have too many in the gray/color way.
I have some of the cream/color units ready to sew.  Will still need more though.  Gray/red are ready to cut.  Then I will need to ponder what else is needing.
The project has 16 leaf blocks, two in each color way (gray/color and cream/color).  These are the other units used in the blocks.  The big one is cut in half on the diagonal and a stem inserted between the two.  I'm anxious to get beyond HSTs!

Enjoy your first week of May.  Keep Mom in mind this week...
