I'm doing a HAPPY DANCE!  I have a UFO FINISH!
Kookoo Katchu
June 2016 UFO
Having Kookoo Katchu done means I am finally up-to-date with my yearly UFO Challenge with Marti and 52Quilts.com.  Now I wait just one day until August UFO project is called.  Nothing like coming down to the wire this month =^.^=
Kayenne
May 2016 UFO
Kontentment
July 2016 UFO
Kayenne was finished earlier in the month and fortunately July UFO was already a finish earlier this year.  So bring it on August...

For stash reporting it is always nice to have a finish, right?  Kookoo Katchu had some fabric purchased, but also a Christmas gift well used in the background fabric.  I plan to use scraps from the project for the back, sleeve, and maybe the binding.  What do you think about the light blue in the quilt's middle for a binding?  Too light?  I do think it needs to have some color around the edges; the dark blue used in the vines is calling out to me a bit though.  Opinions please, now I know you have one.

Used this week:  11.75 yards

Kontentment
2016 UFO
Kontentment is completely finished except for a label.  It was part of my Show and Share with Sunshine Quilters on Tuesday.  Everyone claims it is the most spectacular mystery project that Bonnie Hunter has shared with us yet.  Being from the Washington, DC area it brings thoughts of the NFL Redskins Football Team.  I mentioned that I would share the process behind the scalloped borders during a future Schools in Session to an enthusiastic membership.  No stash to report as used since this was already done earlier in the year.
Isn't this the best possible fabric to use in the sashing and the back of a T-Shirt Memory Quilt for an outgoing track coach?  I enjoyed looking at all the runners (there are quite a few) while binding it.  Finished project is ready for pickup...yes I will do binding.  Nothing to claim here either.

Kayenne is my May UFO.  Five blocks are pieced with two more planned using the same fabrics.

These blue/gray fabrics are next to use.  A trip for more light batiks looks to be necessary.  Something to claim :(

Used this week:  0 yards
Used YTD:  88.25 yards
Purchased this week:  0 yards
Purchased YTD:  33 yards

For this week it is a null...nothing used and nothing added.  Next week's numbers are sure to be a bump up!  See more projects today through the links at Patchwork Times.

Sunday Stash Report, May 8, 2016

To start my post today...Happy Mother's Day!  My Mom is coming in just ten days when our celebrating this special time of year begins.  Truth be told, I sent her a card with an Olive Garden gift card and a Quilt Trivia board game about a week ago.  I think the card and dinner at Olive Garden were the bigger hits =^.^=  Ten days and counting before I can wrap her in my arms.  We have fun plans during her three week stay including a quilting retreat.  Again Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms.

I have been busy as usual in my sewing room.  Today I have three projects to tell about.  First up is Month 4 of Kalvery.  I am caught up on this project, but May needs doing if I am to stay there.  As for the BOM projects, Kanton Kull and Konstitution still need their April completed.

Fabrics have  been pulled for Kayenne.  This is not the best of photos; tomorrows will be better (so do come back then).  I will be using all batiks for this my May UFO project.  To learn about it check out the right side bar under labels for Kayenne.

I will be sewing down the binding on Kontentment today.  Seems like a good day to sit in my favorite chair and stitch while the washer and dryer are going.  Perhaps Komotion will join me.

Happy May Day!
Nothing moving this week in my stash.  Not a bad thing really.  I have been concentrating on the finishing touches on Kontentment and Kanine Karnivores.

I haven't started yet on the marking of the black outer border for the scallop edge that is planned for Kontentment (aka Allietare).  The decision was reached to use the red as the binding.  Kanine Karnivores has binding machine sewn down; ready for the hand stitching and button eyes to be applied.  This project will go back to Kerry for some final quilting stitches around the eyes.

I suppose if I wanted to claim the little bits of fabrics that I pulled from my stash for the Sunshine Quilt Guild April BOM coordinated by Teresa I could.  It does become difficult with pieces not much larger than 4" x 6".  The purple circle still needs to be stitched down, but isn't the bird house cute?

Here are my numbers as May begins...  See more quilters using their stash at Patchwork Times.

I certainly could have used one more full day of sewing...these weekends (even the three days) end way too soon!

Kissin' Korner
April UFO
I did have a finish and some rolling of the stash stats yesterday.  My April UFO, Kissin' Korner finished.  Lucky me too that I have enough of the blocks left to make a second quilt unless I come up with another use for 72 shoo fly blocks.

Kontentment
January UFO
Kontentment is ready for the scalloped borders that the design by Bonnie Hunter called Allietare suggests.  I am pretty certain a single red fabric will be the binding.  There is a consistent gray and I do have enough for it to be the binding, but that red is calling out to me.  First things first though, chalking in the sew lines with the scallop template.

Kontentment and Kanine Karnivores came home with me on Saturday from Kerry's.  She did such nice work on the Buggy Barn design Nick, Knack, Paddywack.  I have captured parts of the quilting.  Can you make out the words around the border?  Kerry's not done yet though.  I will be putting the eyes on the four cute dogs in their dog houses then some more detailed quilting around the eyes will complete the quilting.

Lots of projects going on in my sewing room...many with month end deadlines!  Linking up with Patchwork Times.  Much more to see there today if you have time.  Enjoy your week.

Today marks 29 years of marriage for my sister and brother-in-law.  (I'm in the red with the maid of honor privilege, holding up the bride's gown.)  Happy Anniversary to you both!

Kontentment finished this past week.  I am so excited that not one piece of fabric was purchased to put this project together...not even the back!  This beauty is staying with me.  Excited to finish it up with a scalloped border once the quilting is done.  Quiltville once again creates an awesome design.

Today I will be working on Kastaway.  This will be my first experience with invisible thread on my new machine.  I have my fingers crossed that all works well.

What a great start to 2016!  Hope you have time to visit other quilters using their stash at the links on Patchwork Times.

I had an oops that fortunately I discovered before quilting :)!  I had a unit turned the wrong way.  Did you happen to notice it from the photo in my Monday post?  I am so very happy to have it found and fixed.  Today I'm putting on the borders.  There are two.  The first is a 1 1/2" yellow and the second is a 5" black.  Once the project is quilted the black border gets scallop shaped.  I have done this once before on Kushona.  It may appear challenging, but it really is pretty easy.  I plan to have it ready to add to Kerry's Quilting queue on Tuesday...  Let's just say that I am content with Kontentment =^.^=

Squares within Squares 2
Quilterscache.com
For Tuesday's Sunshine Quilt Guild monthly meeting my BOM is done.  We were provided the center square.  The instructions directed adding a small scale matching print and a white-on-white.  Not sure stripes meets the criteria, but the fabric matched very nicely.

These two Frixion pens came as a surprise in my mailbox yesterday.  I had been speaking with my Mom about them recently.  I have never used them, but heard good things from others who had.  Thanks Mom, I will have a chance to see what I think of them.

Tomorrow I'll be sharing Kontentment with borders...

Design Wall Monday and Allietare Mystery Linkup, January 4, 2016

Yesterday the setting triangles were assembled and positioned around Kontentment.  The four corners were simple HSTs in red.  As the day progressed the blocks were sewn into on-point rows.  I will be stitching the rows together later tonight.

In the meantime I have been auditioning the inner border.  The bright yellow pulls out the fewer bright yellow fabrics in the blocks nicely.  I think it is a winner!

These are the three fabrics that will finish Kontentment.  The red will be for the binding.  I sure have enjoyed Bonnie Hunter's 2015 Winter Mystery Allietare.  I have been doing her annual mystery since 2008.  I sure hope she shares her talent with us again later this year.

Linking up with Judy at Patchwork Times and Bonnie at Quiltville.  The holiday break is over for me; it is back to work today!

Sunday Stash Report, January 3, 2016

Today is the first reckoning of 2016 with our fabric stash.  Mine starts with a bunch of zeros!

Used this week:  0 yards
Used YTD:  0 yards
Purchased this week:  0 yards
Purchased YTD:  0 yards
Net used in 2016:  0 yards

I am busy working on Kontentment today.

I have all the blocks done and ready to cut into some red yardage for the triangle that goes into the setting block units.  The pieced units were done in earlier parts of the mystery so assembly should go swiftly.  Then the on-point setting will be the next step.

I do have a little bit of a dilemma in selection of the inner "yellow" border.  I have four fabrics to choose between.  I really like the bright yellow as a first choice.  I am thinking it might be too bright though.  Next is the muted one at the top, but it might be too muted.  Decisions, decisions...  An audition is coming.  Hope you tune in tomorrow to help me make the right choice.

Kastaway piecing was finished.  This glamour kitty is all decked out and ready for whatever adventure comes her way.

Steve, December 2005
I close my post today in reflection of my brother Steve.  It is always a difficult day even though eight years have rolled by without him.  Hugs to Heaven...

Design Wall Monday and Allietare Mystery Linkup, December 28, 2015

Yesterday I was intrigued to learn how much fabric I have moved around in my sewing room since I started accounting for it.  Judy at Patchwork Times has been keeping me accountable along with a bunch of others linking into her website each Sunday.  I'd heard about this weekly Stash Report from a fellow quilter and immediately felt compelled to join in.  July 2010* was my start.  The statistics collected each week are how many yards of fabric were "used", "purchased" and the "net for the year".  Each year you start at zero.  Our last report for 2015 was yesterday and this is how I ended my year:

Last Purchase of 2015
Used this week:  0 yards
Used YTD:  251.5 yards
Purchased this week:  9.5 yards
Purchased YTD:  196 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2015:  55.5 yards

When I started reading the many linkups posted by others, one of the things several mentioned was how they compared with previous years.  So I had to know this too.  I must have been a crazy quilter in 2013!  If I were to analyze these stats it would appear that I am needing more to finish more...does that mean my stash is dwindling?

Year        Used          Purchased     Net Fabric Used
2015       251.50       196               55.50
2014       234.25       170               64.25
2013       377.25       142.25           235
2012       290           147.75           142.25
2011       251.25       111.75           139.50
2010*     146.75       17                 129.75

Part 5
Let's get to what will be my first usage of 2016.  Bonnie Hunter's 2015 Winter Mystery Allietare has been keeping me busy since the start on Black Friday.  Lucky for me I have been able to keep up with her weekly releases.  Part 5 started us assembling the previous parts.  I stitched on it much of yesterday.  Like most of us time is getting shorter to learn what this design is going to look like...anxious!

Find time to look at other projects on Judy's Patchwork Times and Bonnie's Quiltville blogs today.  See what quilters are working on around the globe.  Next time for me to post will be December 31, 2015 with my 2015 At A Glance post.  Come join me then for a review of my year.

Sunday Stash Report, December 27, 2015

I had Part 4 of Bonnie Hunter's 2015 Winter Mystery Allietare done on Christmas Night.  I watched a couple Christmas Movies and DH preferred to watch basketball.  My sewing room was calling to me...  I was anxious to have this Part done before Saturday's release of Part 5 which I started assembling the previously sewn units and cut pieces for putting it together.  Today I will be sewing Part 5!

This being the last of the Stash Reports for 2015 I'm going out with a bang!  An unfortunate closing of a quilt shop in Richmond created an opportunity to use up a $60. gift card in a hurry.

You might recall in June I gifted my niece with a Brother sewing machine and three private sewing lessons.  She has been using the machine, but her schedule didn't yet allow her the time to take the sewing lessons.  With FaceTime I went shopping across some 3,000 miles using the gift card before the store's closing.  Honestly with what she's been sewing I'm not sure she needs the lessons. Her latest project, two mermaid sleep sacks commissioned by a friend for Santa gifts.

These two pieces of fabric were under the Christmas tree.  Aren't those cats the cutest?  The white piece is five yards large and will be very useful in future projects.

These quilty items were also gifted me.  You can see Judy Niemeyer will be coming into my sewing room again soon.

Krates is finished completely now, but yardage has been claimed earlier.  So here are how my stats ended in 2015.  I'm pleased!  Hope to do similar or better in 2016.

Used this week:  0 yards
Used YTD:  251.5 yards
Purchased this week:  9.5 yards

I thought I would have gotten further along with Part 4 than this...  There is a lot to this part.  I got through the trimming and pressing of the units.

A close up of the fabrics and finally all set up for some stitching later tonight.  A holiday party will start my evening.  Its Pasta on Earth with hosts Rick and Lainey.  We've been so fortunate to know such a wonderful couple.  They have welcomed us with open arms to their family tradition for many years.  It always takes place on Christmas Eve's Eve and always with pasta.  A huge tray or two of homemade cookies for dessert is my contribution to the annual event.
Happy Hump Day!
