Sunday Stash Report, October 25, 2020

Shortly after waking this morning there was a heavy shower that maybe lasted for two minutes...  Weather sure has been getting closer to what it should be this time of year for San Diego!  Enjoying the cooler weather.

I have two completions to claim this week YIPPEE!  Irelyn's quilt and the blue quilt are both done.  Both need 'K' names...  They will be off to Kerry's Quilting tomorrow.  Kerry is expecting them and will rush them through her lovely quilting.

Irelyn's quilt is very soft looking.  Color selections come from Kaitlyn that match Irelyn's bedroom.  Irelyn is due the first part of November and I'm hoping to have it to Kaitlyn and David before her birth.

The blue quilt will be on hand.  I had already pulled the blues from my stash potentially for Greyson's quilt.  Tiffany liked a different shade of blue instead so Greyson got his quilt with those shades.  Since they were already pulled I chose to make them up.  I had fun with the back on it.  Just didn't have enough so a little improvisation took place.

I must share my concern about dye lots in fabric and how different they can be.  My stash enhancement arrived on Thursday to have enough background to finish the blue quilt.  When the package was opened the fabric looked much darker than what was already in the project.  It was noticeably darker!  Now I pondered on what to do as most of the project was already into blocks.  Not happy!  I thought I would need to scatter the darker fabric around the top and hope for the best.  Not happy!  Then I took a look at the back of the fabric to see if it would match better since sometimes that is possible.  HAPPY DANCING!

I did get a birthday card and gift from Rita...it has been in the mail since the last week of September.  Yep that is right.  It should have been here according to USPS by 10/3.  The package ended up back at Rita's address, label torn away.  Rita mailed it back out and it finally arrived.  The Candy Cat project might just have to grow as this fabric will definitely be used to make a block.  Love the card too.  Thank you Rita!

I also got a kitty t-shirt from my Mom.  Most of you know I'm from Maryland.  How perfect is this?  It says "meowyland".  Thank you Mom!

This week there is a change in both used with two project finishes and purchased with the fabric needed to finish the blue quilt plus some extra...next time I'll be using it front side out!

Design Wall Monday, October 19, 2020

The extra background purchased for Irelyn's quilt worked out to be right (or so I hoped) for the third Gray Stone Farm project that will be made.  This one doesn't have a home, but will be on hand for when that announcement comes around.  When I got to cutting the background low and behold it was a bit short...urgh!  Being a new fabric a quick purchase remedied this.  Now all I have to do is sew as much as I can and wait for 1/4 yard to arrive.  This is part of the 2020-2021 Sunshine Quilt Guild Challenge...  I need it completely done before the next meeting 2nd week of November or pay the penalty.  Gosh darn I am the coordinator so I can't have that happen =^.^=

There are two blocks.  I have enough and all sewn of the block on the left.  The right blocks are sewn up to the fabric I'm short of.  Hurry Laundry Basket Quilts!

I have sewn Irelyn's quilt together and at the "adding some enhancements" stage.  This is the first of three flowers that will be appliqued to it.  I've already discussed with Kerry the quilting pattern to look for and she will choose the right color thread.

I have Prairie Winds #12 UFO cut out so it might be that it comes under my needle this week.  These hands of mine don't stay idle!  Enjoy the week ahead.

Sunday Stash Report, October 18, 2020

This is Kopernikus ready for me to give the last hand stitches.  Love me some hand stitching!

I was with Kerry on Friday as she was visiting for the weekend.  We sat at Oggi's in Santee on their patio for several hours just catching up.  We had not been together since last year.  Thank goodness for video chatting to keep us close.  She had been traveling lately and came across these treasures plus some Huckleberry Jam and a Huckleberry Scented Candle. Thank you Kerry!

I did have some enhancements this week.  Primitive Gatherings background fabric that I thought would work for Gray Stone Farm Blue project.  It is 1 1/2 yards, but I ruled it out for the intended purpose.  The print is a bit too dark for the blues.  Not a huge loss as it can always work for another project.  The Gray Stone Farm Blue project is similar to two others like it that I gifted.  I just like the pattern and had already pulled a collection of blues from my stash that didn't work for Grayson's quilt.  The other one is the one in pinks that is being gifted to Irelyn.  The magazine was an unexpected gift from Primitive Gatherings.  There will likely be a project coming from it in my sewing room in the future.  Thank you Primitive Gatherings!

I also used the remaining Amazon funds from a birthday gift card received from my parents.  Kerry gave this idea to get a new light box.  So that's what I did along with a new pair of Kai scissors.  This light pad has three brightness settings, a much longer cord and a much larger surface.  It is on 1/4" wide and light as a feather.  A far superior light pad than the relic it replaces.  It will get some immediate use when I get back to Autumn Love.

So this week I add to my stash and still have nothing used.  I am working to have two finishes for the mail this week to Kerry for quilting.  If this happens I'll be able to show progress to using up my stash next week.  Until next time =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, September 20, 2020

 

Star Strings by Pam Buda has been keeping me occupied this past week.  I had wanted to work on the Candy Cat project, but....  This is #4 2020 UFO project.  My sister recently gifted me the pebble setting triangle fabric and there has been a FQ collection of grays that has been in my stash for awhile.  I brought in more and several neutrals to create these star units that finish at 4".  The string star centers finish at 2".  There are eight  1/4" finished strings in each one.  Guess what part of this project was challenging?  I'm at the "sewing the rows together" part of the project.  Should have something used next week.

My sister-in-law Rita sent me the cutest cat themed fabric she gifted me.  Little did she know that I am on the hunt for cat themed fabric for Candy Cats.  I quickly matched it up with fabrics from my stash and...

Here is block 16 =^.^=  I'll be back to this project as soon as Star Strings finishes.

One Sister sent me notification of the most darling pumpkin pattern.  I know I don't need yet another pumpkin, but although I resisted for about two days...

There will be another pumpkin project in my future!

The fabrics arrived yesterday for this project.  Kaitlyn is having a girl in November and these are the colors she selected for a quilt.  Most of the jelly roll fabrics, Anna by Laundry Basked Quilts, will work with just a few of the darker and lightest not.  The larger neutral will be for the background and binding.  The green will be for the back.  Not going to share too much more since Kaitlyn is watching =^.^=

This is the September BOM with Sunshine.  Lorna is coordinating the BOM 20-21 Year.  She also selected September to come up with the first for the membership design.  Mine are done and will be in the mail to her on Thursday.  It is Basket Weave Strings, a FREE pattern, by Bonnie Hunter.

Mid-week already!  We have a particularly hot day in San Diego today and forecast for the next several days of more the same.  The air quality is getting better every day with the Valley Fire nearly out.  Take care everyone.

Kolor Katchers is complete.  This BOM Win from Sunshine Quilt Guild January 2017 (and a little extra blocks) came out terrific.  This was a win that Kerry accepted and I finished.  It is my #7 2020 UFO.

I can't tell you how happy I am to have ordered this 10 1/2 inch Trim-it Ruler for Lori Holt designs.  It has already paid for itself with my very first block of her Autumn Love project.

My crow's legs were a wee bit to small, but now corrected.  I would have been so unhappy if when the background was trimmed down to the final size and the legs didn't fit correctly.  They are a bit longer than they need to be, but they won't be too short!

Block 2 is glued in place using that very important 10 1/2 inch Trim-it Ruler.  It looks like the wheel on the left needs to be moved up just a bit.  Amazing what can be noticed from a photo =^.^=

Adding to my "want to make" list is from my subscription magazine McCall's Quilting September/October 2020 called Spooky Friends.  It is foundation piecing and should be quick to make table runner.

Another add to my sewing queue will be a quilt of these fabric colors for my hairdresser's soon to be first baby.  Baby girl is expected in November.  I am excited to make a quilt for this baby.

Lot's of completions to share today.  Mom received the table runner made for her St. Patrick's Day decorations.  I haven't seen how it looks on the table; photos promised!

The Sunshine Quilt Guild UFO Challenge has been met for March.  The meeting is Tuesday so I am all set.

Kruella
2019 UFO

Kruella was one of three projects that came from Kerry recently.  Only 12 inches square is this wool project.  I am pleased with how it turned out.

Flying Geese Demo UFO

Several years ago the Flying Geese Demonstration at Sunshine Shine Quilt Guild yielded all kinds of green flying geese.  I made a few more and this project came together.  It isn't very large, but I'm sure will be loved by someone.  It will be for the charity the guild supports.

UFO from Mom #1

The first of two projects from the polka dot four patches finished.  It is just so funny that after the two tops were made that Mom found the pattern they were intended to be used.  These four patches and the red fabric languished not only in Mom's sewing room, but then in mine for years.

So I have some yardage used to take a dent out of my stash this week.
