Sunday Stash Report, February 21, 2021

This week I have two finishes.  This first one is a 2021 UFO that will be called Kwestion.  Pat Yamin pattern called It's A Mystery.  Kerry and I took one of her Mystery Classes at 2020 Road to California.  I have a long time batik fabric, from either Melissa or Loretta, that ends up perfect for this project.  I'll use the same blue in the front for the binding.  Kerry has this one now for quilting.

My second finish is a second Cupid's Bow.  It appropriately will be coined Kupid's Kurtsy 2).  With a little ingenuity there was enough between scraps from the first Cupid's Bow (Kupid's Kurtsy) and my meager red stash to pull it off.

I also had fun every day heading to my mail box...  Starting from the top the yellow FQ bundle arrived from Fat Quarter Shop, wools from Midway Wool, a promo cute sewing container and the Acorn pressing product from Stitchin' Heaven, and Arizona Hatch Pepper seasoning from Kerry that came in the box that brought back Krooked Kreek all quilted.
Sunshine's February BOM is coordinated by Hallie.  She has us making Bonnie Hunter's Little Monkey blocks.  I dug through scraps and found HSTs that Debra gifted me some time ago that were perfect (see the monkey fabrics?).  Hard to resist making more of these blocks.

In the meantime I am reading the sleeve, binding, and label for Krooked Kreek and several nights in front of the TV.  More to share with you tomorrow on this project.  Right now I am thinking of what project to tackle next!  Kupid's Kisses and Kadbury are on their way back from Kerry after being quilted.  There are lots of TV nights ahead.

Before closing wanted to share a photo of Kamel Kountry (Old Tobacco Road by Bonnie Hunter) that was gifted to Ty and Sharon this past week.  It was meant and is perfect for their brown/tan travel trailer.  They were so surprised and thrilled to receive it.

Just wanted to show off my newest completion.  Kamel Kountry, as I've coined my project, is a Bonnie Hunter design that she brought to us as a mystery called Old Tobacco Road.  Check out her website www.quiltville.com for the pattern if your interested in making one.
I've also got one of my quilts featured in the Quiltmaker Spotlight in the current issue.  It's called Koh-i-nor and also happens to be a Bonnie Hunter design.  This pattern is available in her third book called Blue Ridge Beauty.  You can purchase her book Scraps and Shirttails II on her website too.

Part 2 is in full swing over at Quilters Club of America.  There are somewhere around 350 members in the Quilt-Along Group.  Join us for some fun, it's not too late and it's FREE!

My Mother will arrive this evening for two weeks.  Can't wait for her to be here.  Happy Quilting!

Sunday Stash Report, May 29, 2011

This week has found me at two quilt shops...Amidon Quiltworks in Poway and Cozy Quilt Shop in El Cajon.  Gosh it's hard to be good....

The largest purchase is 6 yards for a background for my next Quiltmaker pattern by former QM editor Caroline Reardon.  The pattern is called Perennial Petals in the March/April 11 issue.  I thought I'd make this a scrappy background, but looking at the pattern more in depth having it scrappy might not have the best results.  It's those large setting triangles that mess up the scrappy idea.  I used a Cozy 20% discount for it.  Certainly a beautiful Batik don't you think?

While at Cozy I also purchased two 1/4 yard pieces and the kit for June's BOM for Sharyn Craig's Building Blocks.  I've decided to find a gray background, didn't find one that "thrilled me" today; I'll keep looking for it.  I've counted the kit fabric too :(!

My last two purchases of a yard a piece came from Amidon Quiltworks.  I've been building my stash of the most luscious cheddar fabrics that Bonnie Hunter uses a bunch.  As it happened this day of searching for a brown fabric for the binding of my Kamel Kountry (aka Bonnie Hunter's Old Tobacco Road) the cheddar happened to be the "bolt of the day" a great deal at 30% off.  Well goodness I couldn't resist that!  Now I've got the cheddar fabric yardage I need to make Bonnie's Hawk's Nest from her third book Scraps and Shirttails II.  I've got nearly all the HSTs done from previous projects...704 2" unfinished puppies!  Oh and yes I did find the brown fabric for the binding...

All of these purchases have a planned use, the brown fabric is already attached to Kamel Kountry.  The background and cheddar will be used in a couple of weeks as they'll both be my Lakeside Retreat projects.

Building Blocks is a bit on hold still waiting the yet to be found gray I want for the background.  Yes 2 plus 2 means another purchase not too far away from reporting...

Sunday Stash Report, May 22, 2011

All I want to say is "I'm still here!"  Judgement Day?  It's a good thing because I'm readying my stash for some scrappy completions...

I spent much of the week emptying the basket you can see (the empty spools are for kitty toys to be made for local animal shelters).  I put as much in my stash drawers as I could and the piles of 3" and 2 1/2" just won't fit.  I've got to get them to my "remote" stash in the garage until I start a project that can use them.  What does fit in these drawers are less than strips in various sizes, the 1 1/2" strips, leftover binding, and orphan blocks.  I love these drawers that were "recycled" from a girlfriend's son's going out of business place where he had been employed.  Now how's that for recycling...right down to what it's stored in!

The sewing I did was on Kartwheels the Judy Niemeyer Mariner's Star project.  Kartwheels is one of my 2011 UFOs.  I've got ten of the 12 arcs done; next up are the stars.  I'm still debating on what to do with the melons.  There's a ton of paper piecing to do yet before I need a decision, something is sure to develop between now and then.

Yesterday and today I'm working on Quilters Club of America's Part 2 blog post for the Quiltmaker Quilt Along Mystery Project designed by Debbie Caffrey.  There's lots to Part 2.  Photos aplenty!  It's date for posting is May 30.

Kamel Kountry is waiting for it's binding.  This quilt sure came out spectacular.  I've already sent in my entries for the 30th Annual San Diego Quilt Show that's September 8-10.  Perhaps I'll have to consider this for next year.

I don't have any finishes to report that used up stash this week.  Neither do I have anything to report purchased.  Another "zero" week...but that's positive too!

2011 UFO Challenge #10 Kourageous Cranesbill for February, February 1, 2011

#10 was selected for the month of February to finish in Judy's Patchwork Times 2011 UFO Challenge.  This means a change of designers to Claudia Hasenbach.  I'll be making her Cranesbill block from the Series "Big Quilt of Nature - Wildflowers".  I've got my planned fabric stash for Kourageous ready for tomorrow's lunchtime break with quilter friends to start figuring out which fabrics will be used.  This is a 6" block using ten fabrics one of which is the background; three the leaves, stem and bud; and the rest the blossom.  The Cranesbill is usually an assorted blue to purple flower with a yellow blossom...but you know I'm going for animal skin prints.  Thinking about brown skinned animals for this one since the Lily was black, white and gray.  I've got giraffes, lions and more to choose from.  More later this week when decisions are made.  Here's the block I'll be making.  81 pieces and 13 parts to this one.....a skip in the park compared to the Lily block with 147 pieces and 23 parts.

Happy Sewing!

p.s.  I've got a new name for Kotton my Bonnie Hunter Mystery Roll Roll, Cotton Boll quilt.  I came across this while looking for a quilting pattern for my Kamel Kountry also a Bonnie Hunter design Old Tobacco Road.  I'm really excited to change Kotton to Kottonwood Kurl...isn't that better?  Has sort of a melody to it when said!

p.s.s  I've got two quilts back from my quilter that I'm looking to prepare and get the binding on for hand sewing.  Kotton Kandy Kocktail and Katching Kisses.  I think this weekend I'll be getting back 2008 Kruisin' Kwilt too.  More about them later along with pictures!

This is Clay's Choice the block made for Sunshine Quilt Guild's January BOM.  Participants were provided the dark blue fabric then add a jewel tone and background fabric.  Nice easy design--not the winner this month :(!

Old Tobacco Road has been named Kamel Kountry...I had a few suggestions for a "K" name...  I have to share a cute story I learned about from Dee.  Her DH spent about an hour trying to think of "K" words that went with tobacco.  He came up with Kentucky Burley, type of tobacco and Keg which was used to pack the tobacco in to transport to the processing plant.  Great ideas Bill!

Another decision reached is the focus fabric for the Star Struck workshop I will take with Bonnie Hunter next Sunday.  Overwhelmingly the suggested color is that hot pink.  I thought I was too far out of the box, but guess not.  Thanks for your comments.

So to conclude this post and get some sewing done...I finished up three of my "deadline items" that I listed on Monday.  Fortunately nothing was added too, which is a good thing.  Roll Roll, Cotton Boll Clue 7 still needs finishing and Clue 8 is waiting too.  Oh and I've got my UFO #6 to get to as well....so little time....so much to get done!

Have a wonderful rest of the week; happy sewing.

I was able to finish Kamel Kountry a Bonnie Hunter design that she calls Old Tobacco Road.

Now I am down to working on just one of her mysteries; her current one Roll Roll, Cotton Boll.  We have one more clue to go that will be released next Friday.  This last clue will be the borders where I am certain she will have something that will finish the design just perfectly.  Clue 7 revealed the quilt's design that I am very excited about.  I really like that it is set on point with all the neutral string block 1 cut up and rearranged between block 2.  I have not started working on this clue yet since I wanted to finish Kamel Kountry first.

Challenge #6 UFO was selected for January.  For me it will be the Lily.  I am not sure what fabrics from the "jungle" will be selected, but am thinking about a leopard print that is in gray, white, and black tones as the main petals (first fabric on the left).  I will need four flower fabrics, two leaf/stem fabrics as well as picking one of the two background fabrics.  I will use whatever background works best for the entire project.  I'm calling this project Kourageous.  There will be lots of auditions on each block, especially this first block!

As 2010 draws to a close I'm working on Bonnie Hunter's current mystery called Roll, Roll Cotton Boll.  Bonnie has released up to Clue 6 so far with two more to go.  I have all the sewing done where we combined Clue 1 with the brown triangle on both sides and assembling Clue 5 into units of 5.  I am at the pressing and dog ear snipping part.  Sure has had me at the ironing board for awhile.  You can see that I have quite a bit done, but loads more to go.  I have decided to call my quilt project Kotton.  This name seems to be very suitable as it keeps with the project's name.  Here's what Kotton Clue 6 looks like as I begin my Monday.

I will be getting to Clue 4 and the last Clue 5 of Old Tobacco Road when I have all of Kotton's Clue 6 finished.  Photos of my Old Tobacco Road project will be posted soon.

Sunday Stash Report, December 26, 2010

The last Stash Report of 2010!  I wish that I could go out with a bang, but Bonnie has had me busy with Roll, Roll Cotton Boll (RRCB) for six weeks now.  I have also been trying to keep up with one of her earlier mysteries, Old Tobacco Road (OTR).  Sewing is finished with Clue 6; now at the pressing stage and snipping the dog ears.  There is a lot of this to do that's kept me standing at the ironing board.  Finnaly, Bonnie is having us put the previous clues together.

All of this RRCB sewing has left OTR in the dust...darn!  I'm still at Clue 4 with it (only Clue 5 left).  I've got off this week and should be able to finish it up before Clue 7 of RRCB is released on Friday.  I won't be able to claim any stash as the year closes, but I should be coming in with my first 2011 report with a usage.

I couldn't resist two purchases this week.  One was from a LQS called Amidon Quilt Works; it was their "bolt of the day".  Just love the red holiday batik, don't you?  The second purchase was from online with Batiks Etcetera and Sew What Fabrics.  They had a special of 40% off one item.  I have been eying the Timeless Meringue Treat Strip pack for months.  It now sits in my neutral stash ready for a future project.  I did get four quilty Christmas gifts; two packages of  Printed Treasures Sew-On Inkjet Printable Fabric, Heat Press Batting Together Fusible Cloth Tape, a 20% discount off a quilting project at Kerry's Quilting, and a Gift Certificate at another LQS called Rosie's Calico Cupboard (destined for neutrals).  Thanks Mom, Dad, and Kerry.

So here are my totals to end the year that for me started the last week of July when I started recording.  My numbers are respectable.  Hey, guess what I figured out...this coming week purchases are not reportable in 2010!  I'm hoping to take advantage of this!  Bigger numbers are ahead in 2011.

Happy Monday!

I've finally had some time to work on Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll Clue 5.  I had about six hours for the most part uninterrupted sewing; got quite a bit done.  I cut out all 600 of the half square triangles with my Easy Angle Ruler.  Half of these are sewn together already!  Shouldn't take too much time to sew the remaining pieces together that I'll work on tonight.  Next step will be cutting all the dog ears off of these and then there's the ironing...  Just maybe I'll be done with this clue tonight.
I have not had any time to work on Old Tobacco Road Clue 4, but now that the decorations and gift getting, wrapping, and some put in the mail are done...it will be back to sewing.

Sunday Stash Report, December 19, 2010

I have not had a minute to do any sewing since this time last week.  I've been to several holiday functions, the mall shopping for the holiday gifts that will be placed under our tree and sent East to family.  Clue 4 for Old Tobacco Road (OTR) sits ready to assemble and Clue 5 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll (RRCB) is screaming out to me to work on.  Then there's the Christmas tree that is yelling "Hey, put some decorations on me!".  Times a ticking for Santa's arrival, the family that's coming Christmas Day and all it's holiday trimmings...including the banquet that I have planned.  Santa won't be happy if he doesn't have cookies on his plate when he arrives!

I did spend several hours this week putting together my 2011 UFO Challenges.  The first one that I have broken up into several parts will be "kept accountable" through Patchwork Times.  The others will be played with my quilting sisters; there are nine of them...projects that is.  I'll share them with you as New Year's rolls in on January 1st at 12:01 am!

Since what sewing I have been doing is two Bonnie Hunter mystery projects current (RRCB) and former (OTR) there isn't any stash to report again this week.  It's coming though...

Design Wall Monday, December 13, 2010

On my design wall today are two blocks made for Sunshine Quilt Guild's December BOM.  It is a simple block that looks real good with the black and jewel tones.  I decided to make two...to increase my chances of winning!

Sunshine Quilt Guild's December 2010 BOM

Next project to work on is Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Old Tobacco Road (OTR).  This is Clue 4 which adds 108 3.5" x 6.5" bricks in rusts, blacks, and browns to Clue 3 components.  There is only one more Clue to this Mystery which makes....  You'll have to wait!  I'm looking for ideas for a name.  What is similar to OTR that can be made with "Ks"?  Right now what comes to mind is Kamel Kourt.  I'm thinking of Camel cigarettes...there must be something more clever.

Sunday Stash Report, December 12, 2010

Good morning everyone.  It's a simply fabulous day in San Diego.  We've had record highs for the weekend; I noticed folks in shorts yesterday.  When I was out for my of late brisk walk in my sweats...I was wishing I'd been wearing shorts...talk about a drippy workout!

I still have yet to compose my 2010 Christmas Letter, put up Christmas Decorations, and the weekly chore of laundry.  These are all a must do today.  Gosh any of you have time you want to do these for me?  I guess I need to do like NIKE always says "JUST DO IT"!  We all have must dos, but I sure would rather be sewing.  You would have thought I'd have enough after this marathon week since Wednesday that I've had.

I finished the grueling Clue 3 of Roll Roll Cotton Boll (RRCB).  Clue 3 involved making 60 neutral strip or some call them string blocks.  We were instructed to put in anything neutral, to did deep and find anything that would work.  On Quiltville Chat there was even a "contest" for the ugliest fabric.  Some were indeed pretty ugly.  I calculated that I used nearly 20 bobbins to complete this step alone!  I finished the easy Clue 4 of RRCB too.  Clue 4 has us going back to the greens and again using the neutrals.  One of the Math Grus of Quiltville Chat commented that we are 77% done.  These math geeks amaze me.  This on going 2010 Bonnie Hunter Mystery is up-to-date.  Clue 5 is scheduled for release on Friday, December 17th.  I'm wondering when the constant red comes into play.
RRCB Clue 3

RRCB Clue 4
I finished Clue 3 of Old Tobacco Road (OTR) as well.  This Clue wasn't too bad as it had you assemble the previous two Clues together.  Both Clues 1 and 2 were lots of sewing.  Clue 2 had you make 388 2" FINISHED pinwheels.  Its a good thing that RRCB first two clues were easy because OTR had me pretty busy then.  Clue 4 is in the cutting stages as I write.  It needs 180 3.5" by 6.5" bricks in blacks, rusts, and browns.  I've got the rusts and browns cut into strips with plans during the Chargers game today to cut the blacks.  Clue 4 is on sewing hold until I get by must dos done, but I certainly can cut while watching the Chargers (either loose or dash the Chiefs playoff spot).  Clue 4 of an earlier Bonnie Hunter Mystery will be done before Friday's next Clue release.
OTR Clue 3
I've no yardage to report this week since I'll be doing it at the end of these two mystery projects.  I have two other sewing projects with Tuesday deadlines to finish; that's what is next to report with photos of course and I'll be showing you my OTR Clue 4 start.  So here's my numbers for this report:

I finally finished my last 2010 UFO.  So now I've got my sewing table clear and ready to work Clue 3 of both Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll (RRCB) and Old Tobacco Road (OTR).
RRCB Clue 3
I've pulled all my fabrics for RRCB and cut some smaller strips.  I plan on using a very light weight fusible stablizer to sew my strips on.  I have used it before and was very pleased with the results.

I found time to finish OTR Clue 2 on Saturday morning.
OTR Clue 2
Clue 3 assembles the first two clue components together; nothing new to add this time.

Here's a photo taken of Adel just after I gave her the Betty Boop Christmas Tree Skirt.  When she arrived at my office I gave her the very festive package, she sort of had a double take that I'd be giving her something.  Next as she opened the silly bag that wasn't cooperating...she didn't know what she had.  Her first thought was a poncho...crazy girl.  I of course quickly corrected her that it was a tree skirt.  She was so surprised that she was without words.  Later she sent the photo to other friends commenting "Yesterday I got a neat surprise from Sandi, she made me a Betty Boop tree skirt.  I was so excited when I saw the little cartoon face, my hands were trembling.  At first I thought it was a Poncho then a skirt, me in a skirt- no way...Sandi had to tell me its a tree skirt WOMEN...OH MY GOSH...How cute is that.  I feel so special.  (signed) Me.  Miss Betty Boop Collector!"
Adel with her Betty Boop Christmas Tree Skirt

I am still working on my last UFO.  I didn't get it done on the deadline, but I have a plan for the setting that will require a little more sewing of pinwheels.  It will be done this week for certain.  I'll have pictures of it a little later.  I am very excited about this project.

Looking forward to receiving Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll (RRCB) and Old Tobacco Road (OTR) Clue #3 on Friday.  I'm still at half way point with OTR's Clue #2.  BAE System Quilters December Meeting is Thursday.  We'll have a little holiday exchange and a special lunch.

Hope everyone continues to have a wonderful week.

Stash Report Sunday, November 28, 2010

Today I have no fabric to report as used.  I'm still working on my last UFO for this year.  I've got eight blocks done with the next one cut and ready to sew.  This block design is from Cozy Quilt Shop called Cozy Waves.  Block designs yet to sew are from Bits & Pieces called Perfect Patriotic Peony, Rosie's Calico Cupboard Quilt Shop called Patriotic Heart Block, and Fat Quarters Quilt Shop called Union Square.  All of the designs finish at 12".  This week I did get 1 yard of fabric (light blue) to complete 2009 Kruisin Kwilt, too bad since I wanted to only use my stash.  I kept strong at Amidon's Quilt Shop as I only left with the one piece.  I'm cutting the timeline pretty close on this one!

I worked this week on the binding and labels for Koala, Adel's Betty Boop Christmas Tree Skirt, and Kreepy.  All three of these are done.  I'll be giving Adel her gift tomorrow.  Hopefully I'll be able to catch her with a big smile.  I continued with Bonnie Hunter's 2010 Mystery Roll, Roll, Cotton Boll Clue #2 AND decided to work on one of her earlier released Mystery Old Tobacco Road.  I'm going to go clue for clue on these two projects.  Someone else mentioned they were going to do it and I liked the idea so I'm going for it too.  I'm right now in the middle of Clue #2 on this one.
