Design Wall Monday, January 28, 2019

This is the result of a day with Lori Holt in her Happy Place workshop.  The project to the right is Kerry's.  We both used my portable design wall during the workshop.

I mentioned to DH that I could take the entire week off and not get caught up on all the partly started projects going on in my sewing room.

Koldplay is on the design wall along with Happy Place.  Kilkenny Kat is in a project basket waiting too.

I have no business picking up patterns this past week and I just ordered one other tonight.  Smiling...

Sunday Stash Report, January 27, 2019

Can you tell I was having fun at Road to California?  The "used" is accounting for Kyanite being finished earlier this week.

Used this week:  20.5 yards
Used YTD:  20.5 yards
Purchased this week:  16.5 yards
Purchased YTD:  22.25 yards
Net used in 2019:  -1.75 yards

I don't like ending the first month with a negative, but sometimes it just happens =^.^=.  I also picked up the Salt and Pepper thread pack from Connecting Threads for $12.50!

This is after the first day of shopping.  We didn't purchase too much on the second day.  We had to have the 40th Anniversary Olfa Red Cutter along with the newest Bloc-Loc ruler.

I picked up two blue stripes for the binding of Kyanite.  The blue stripe won't work so it will become part of my stash.  The 10" squares were a must; nothing like a fabric that makes you smile.  The neutrals were a very good price; we can always use neutrals...right?  The two packages at the back are backs for Kyanite and Kilkenny Kat.  There is a cute pin, some great priced 45mm blades, an itty bitty cutting mat, an applique fox pattern, and finally a wool cat pattern/kit.

All said we had a great time over the weekend.  Kurry was displayed quite nicely with great light.  I should be getting Kurry back on Tuesday.  If you had a chance to get to Road to California I hope you had a chance to see my work.

Until next time take care and enjoy your week ahead.

Last time you'll see Kyanite on my Design Wall.  This 2018 UFO is ready for quilting!
Part 2 assembled makes Part 7
I'll be finishing up Koldplay that is my #GoodFortune by Bonnie Hunter next.  It should come together quickly as most of the units are already sewn.  I am making half the size and kept up with each part as they were released.

Look forward to something new next week!

Sunday Stash Report, January 20, 2019

Life is good with a trip to a fabric shop!  Don't you agree?  It was raining and miserable all week, but Thursday was a little brighter going to Paradise Sewing in Poway, CA during my lunch break.
As I shared in my Friday post there were fabric requirements for the upcoming Happy Place workshop which needed fulfilling.  The seven on the left below the black and white dot were purchased for that purpose.  Five FQs and two one yard pieces.  The orange was used for Kreepy Kins binding and the stripe will be used for Happy Place binding too.
I also brought home to be split and shared with Kerry several seasonal fabrics.  I won't be sharing the pattern as gifts are in the making for next year.  Seven FQs and one 3/4 yard piece.

Used this week:  0 yards
Used YTD:  0 yards
Purchased this week:  5.75 yards
Purchased YTD:  5.75 yards
Net used in 2019:  0 yards

My first of several purchases that will come this year as I enjoy my hobby!  I'd hoped to claim Kyanite as finished...it is being assembled...soon...soon.

I am building my fabrics for Happy Place by Susan Emory.  For longer than I can remember this grouping of FQs came to me from Quiltmaker.  There hasn't been a place to use them until now.  Road to California is next weekend YIPPEE!  I will be using these as the base for the project.

Requirements call for 12 FQs.  Several coordinating fabrics were harvested from stash.  The large black and white dot will be for the back.

Then there came a trip to Paradise Sewing, Poway, CA.  Everything you see on the left from the black and white dot came home with me.  I purchased FQs of each of the solid looking fabrics except for the orange and the stripe.  The stripe will also be used for the binding.

The extra orange was cut for the binding of my Pumkin' Patch by Bonnie Hunter.  My project is called Kreepy Kins (thanks Caleb).  Kreepy Kins measures 56 x 70 and will be my project for Sunday's NFL Playoff Games.

My Design Wall this week remains with Kyanite.  A 2018 UFO that will be finished soon.
I have many of the units done, but still have more of the 2 1/2" triangle in a square to get done.
I'm hopefully on the last batch of them.  These have the aqua/blue sewn to the foundation waiting on trimming and then the white side pieces.  I might cut the entire project back to four blocks by four blocks.  Kerry plans to make the project so she might get a head start above and beyond the blocks that were swapped nearly two years ago.

I have some purchases to make this week in preparation for RD2CA workshop Happy Place with Susan Emory.  I pulled many FQs from my stash, but need to add in some very bright "look like solids".  I plan a visit to Paradise Sewing in Poway, CA, on Thursday.  There is sure to be an add with my next Sunday Stash Report.

Enjoy your week!

Sunday Stash Report, January 13, 2019

Still working on Kyanite.  This one is a 2018 UFO.  The design was out from Quiltville when I first organized a block swap of the aqua string unit section.  I added it to my 2018 UFO List.  Hoping that I could finish the main blocks and learn when the String Frenzy book was released whether I'd have to figure out the borders or not.  Fortunate for me the complete design is in the book.
I've been working on the borders since I got the book in hand.  My version of the project Straits of Mackanic is slightly smaller, but it still takes a lot of unit sewing!  I'm nearly done now, but this week no claims to make in the used category.

In case you might be wondering I haven't yet created my 2019 UFO list yet.  I'll be sharing it soon =^.^=

Design Wall Monday, January 7, 2019

Kyanite continues to occupy my design wall today.  I'm making a gazillion 2 1/2" units that finish off the storm at sea design that runs through it.  I just keep making them right now.  When the feeling comes to me that the end is near I'll step back and count.  I certainly don't want to make any more than what's necessary!
I did take time to make the Sunshine BOM for January that I'll need for tomorrow.
In the mail recently came the Princess pattern that is to be made for my Sister-In-Laws grandchild.  It will be a twin size with this design in the center.  I plan to make more of the flower and add hearts in borders to get it to the finished size.  This one will finish by May.
Happy Place is the project I will make at the workshop with Susan Emory at Road to California.  It should be something fun for the sewing room.  I have to bring 12 FQs of various colors and patterns.  I will be rummaging through my stash and add if needed.

So I have a busy sewing room right now =^.^=

Kyanite
2018 UFO
Welcome to the start of another year of keeping track of my stash!  Finishes that are always exciting can be found in the "Used this week".  I'll keep the running total in the "Used YTD"; this is where you can see how much I've been sewing.

"Purchased this week" show that I've had fun bringing fabric home!  Yes, as you guessed "Purchased YTD" is a measure of what has been added to my stash.  Certainly, the last metric "Net used in 2019" is always good to be a positive number!  This first report is all zeros.  Not surprising really.  Kyanite is keeping me busy using all scraps.  I'm hoping I can pull something together from my stash for the back and have a whopping start to 2019!

2018 At A Glance, January 1, 2019

Projects coming out of my sewing room in 2018 are really too few to mention.  This trend for the last two years may have something to do with my family.
Kosmo and Katastrophy
These two in particular, but don't think that DH didn't have his moments too.
Kutarug
Kutarug finished with over 4,000 pieces.  We use it as our bed cover so I am reminded of all the work that went into its making each and every day.  Nine other projects were finished and three others (all at once) on my sewing table.
Kreepy Kins
Kaffe Kisses, Konstitution, Kandiyohi, Kontingency, Kreepy Kins, and Knightley are with Kerry's Quilting.  Just this past Saturday I saw Kreepy Kins on the long arm with witches and spiders being stitched across it.

Continuing the trend of using the fabric I have in my stash, 138.75 yards of cotton moved under my needle in projects throughout the year.  There were a few yards purchased, but only to get projects done.  If one were to compare 2017 to 2018 it would be surprising to note 2018 came out better.  I am shaking my head about this reality as I write.

Used this week: 0 yards
Used YTD: 138.75 yards (2017, 110.5 yards)
Purchased this week: .25 yards
Purchased YTD: 44 yards (2017, 64.75 yards)
Net used in 2018: 94.75 yards (2017, 47.75 yards)

Eight 2018 UFO projects are still to complete.  2018 has by far been the worst at working off my UFO list.
Florence Flamingo
These not completed projects are at the top of my list for finishes in 2019.  A UFO list for 2019 has not even been thought out yet.  Maybe I will just add four projects and call it my 2019 UFO List...

2018 UFO "and still" List

  1. Kyanite
  2. Kilkenny Kat
  3. Florence Flamingo (yet to be named)
  4. Clover (yet to be named)
  5. Winter-ific (yet to be named)
  6. Rebecca's Needles
  7. Checkerboard Stars
  8. Starburst

Kurry
Kurry sits at Ontario, CA waiting for judging that will take place in January.  I was doing a happy dance earlier this month when word was received that it had been accepted into the 2019 Road to California Quilter’s Showcase.  Kourageous didn't do as well as I had hoped in the 2018 Road to California Quilter's Showcase, but there is promise with KurryKurry was presented a Blue Ribbon in its category at the 2018 San Diego Quilt Show.  Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Koldplay, Part 6
Today has Quiltvillians at Part 6 of Bonnie Hunter’s 2018 Mystery #GoodFortune.  This year I opted to make half the size of the project that will be called Koldplay.  Depending on the reveal I may be tempted to make the other half!

For portability in my sewing three purchases were made that included a SewEzi sewing table, a Container Store Bungee Office Chair (you wouldn’t believe how comfortable sitting in it is), and a Janome 3160 QDC sewing machine.  Each of these will get lots of use for years to come.

So again I ask, which"K" name is your favorite this past year?  I'd sure be excited to hear your suggestions for projects yet to be named.  My parade of finishes in 2018 for your viewing pleasure.

Kurry 5/18
Kutarug 6/18
Klever 6/18
Kongure 5/18
Kraft 6/18
Violet Anne's Tractor 8/18
Kastaway 9/18
Kapricorn 11/18
Kanton Kull 11/18

I close this year hoping there are more finishes in 2019.  Happy New Year!
