June 2017 UFO complete!  This is Kilimanjaro.  It is a Bonnie Hunter design called Scrappy Mountain Majesties.  The actual pattern calls for a much larger block, but I had all sorts of HSTs in a smaller size from a swap read to use.  It is a bit wild but all those HSTs made it in to this project except two.  They won't go to waste thou as I will use them in the sleeve for sure.

Thanks for the free pattern and the participants of the HST Swap!  I'll be adjusting my stash statistics when I can figure out just how much fabric was used.

Kourtepointe Part 4

I found a good name for my En Provence project.  It is the French word for quilt or Kourtepointe (courtepointe).  It means bed cover or bedspread.  Sounds pretty good rolling off the tongue; what do you think?

Susan C left a comment on yesterday's post of a potential name for Scrappy Mountains Majesty.  Certainly Kilimanjaro will do!  Funny, sometimes the easiest to figure out escapes us until our friends step in.  Maybe it is something about not being attached that works.  I will be using HST Swap blocks for this project.  Whatever the situation, Susan C, thank you so much =^.^=.

I have also figured out the remaining four 2017 UFOs.  I'll update this post when I have access to the projects photographs.  As always feel free to help me with "K" names!

Now to share what I have found on the internet to be a Traditional Southern Christmas Dinner.  These come by way of Oxmoor House and Southern Living.  I'm certain to get flack* as this isn't a Traditional Family Christmas Dinner.  Old habits, pallets, are very hard to change I guess.  I'll start the cooking on Saturday, get the desserts and anything that will sit prepared in the refrigerator out of the big day.

Happy Wednesday!

Besides working on the Christmas dinner menu for seven (possibly more) family members; I have been considering my 2017 UFO projects.  It is true that the last 2016 UFO, Kozy Korners, is yet to be started :(!  I have identified eight projects so far and all of them are true UFOs.  The remaining four will be starting from a pattern.  I did purchase a few new designs as well as couple gifted during the year that will end up being #9, #10, #11, and #12 =^.^=

Design Wall Monday, February 29, 2016

Today is truly a Design Wall Monday!  My wall is full of Kaffe Kisses...  I have yet to decide on an arrangement but all the units are sewn.  The next step is deciding on the arrangement then continuing with the sewing.  There is still trimming involved too.

I found the tool you see excellent for lining up the edges for the curve seams of Step 9 in the process.

As mentioned yesterday here is where I am with the many "in work" projects that grace my sewing room.  Are you ready?

Happy Valentine's Day

I've been busy this past week.  Starting first with a demonstration at Sunshine Quilt Guild on "Multiple Techniques to Create Flying Geese Units".  The three 15 minute demos went very well.  I prepared visual aids to explain six of them.  

Sunshine Quilt Guild will once again participate in a multi-Guild Retreat in May.  This year my Mom and I will participate for the first time.  One of the participants from our guild has assembled a BOM that is either a pieced or applique block.  Mom will get the pieced and I will do the applique.

Wednesday had me working on Konstitution Month 2 HSTs.  I have them all sewn.  Need yet to cut them apart from the Triangles on a Roll paper, trim the ears, finger press open, and iron.

Thursday evening I was gathering the supplies for Scrappy Mountains Majesty workshop on Friday.  It is great to see my friend Bonnie when she's out lecturing and teaching.  These were the first of the units assembled.  The pattern calls for a starting block of 8".  Mine started out at 5".  I am using HSTs from a swap I coordinated a while back.  It is real nice to use these and how convenient for this pattern.

There are several layouts shown in the free pattern except this one.

Bonnie showed it during the workshop and since I have such a scrappy set of blocks this layout seems quite appropriate.  I'm not certain of the finished size yet.  I have to get projects off the design wall for room to play!

I am working diligently on my February UFO.  I have the blue blocks done and stitching now on the red blocks.  Konstellation and Krown is starting to take shape.  I hope you check out more projects through the links today at Patchwork Times.

My February 2014 UFO is finished.  I have changed the name from Kasbah to something more dragon appropriate.  Quetzalcoatl is a Mexican Dragon.  It's a humdinger to pronounce, but it works changing the Qu to Kw!  I enjoyed putting this design Oasis by Sally Frey together.  I plan to use the green star print for the binding once Kerry finishes the quilting...  What do you think about glow in the dark green thread for the quilting in a cute dragon pattern?  I think Zackary will learn quickly to like his glow in the dark dragon quilt, Kwetzalcoatl.

These next two projects are Joan's.  She participated in a HST Swap I coordinated in 2013 with 18 others.  Here is what Joan says about her projects:

"I have a top done with the half-square triangles (HSTs).  I started with a pattern called ‘Toast and Jam’ that used charms and a jelly roll and adjusted the sizes for the HSTs. It worked out to be about twin size – 60x84ish.

I had leftover triangles, so I put 4 together and tried a scrappy disappearing pinwheel pattern (video by Missouri Star Quilt Co. at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rgQd6asPQs).  I will have 12 blocks, so I am trying to figure out how to put them together."

 I really like Toast and Jam.  The borders really work great pulling in all the different colors of the HSTs.  Hope you have an opportunity to share your finished scrappy disappearing pinwheel.  You are off to a wonderful start!  Thanks for sharing with us.

Sunday Stash Report, June 30, 2013

Let me start this last day in June...and...the halfway mark of 2013...with a purchase :(!  I'll be using it up pretty quickly though...  As a matter of fact I've already used all of the greens and neutrals on Kaskade :)!  I'm busy putting the pieces together.  A little more each time I find myself in my sewing room.

As with many projects one needs to purchase some fabrics to complete them.  I am going to love Kaskade, but it may have been more of a reduction to my stash if it had been made with a different shade of neutral and blues or blacks/grays.  Oh well I'm sure another project will come that will help me reduce those two stash containers.

I ran into a shortness of fabrics working on Kerry's patriotic project.  That has been rectified so I will get to working on it again.  I promised a finish for Independence Day which is what I plan to accomplish.  There are other projects going on that I will share progress on tomorrow on my Design Wall post with Patchwork Times.

I'm anxious to see the Thirteen in 2013 Parade today with Aunt Marti.  Mine is Kloudburst.  I selected both thread and quilting pattern at Kerry's Quilting on Friday.  Gold thread and a design called Twirly Feathers.  I'll be anxious to see how it turns out.  Monday Aunt Marti will announce the July UFO...excited!

I found time to sort out the HST Swap on Saturday.  The participants packages are either in the mail or in my trunk.  Liz has already been to pick hers up.  I hope to get to El Cajon Library at noon today for a little Opportunity Quilt for Sunshine sewing.  Perhaps there will be others in attendance who will claim their package.

So for today I have 7 quarter yard and 4 half yard pieces to bring up my purchase status.  Nothing to claim, but come next Sunday Kaskade just might change my Net for 2013!  See other quilters using their stash through the links at Patchwork Times.

 Here is where I start this morning on Kaskade.  This is as far as I can go without more background.  Bonnie's fabric just wasn't quite right...  I stopped by Bits and Pieces in Poway on my way home yesterday and did pick up a FQ that works.  It really isn't what I wanted but the color worked.  If going to a couple other LQS between later today and tomorrow don't have what I need I'll be back to Bits and Pieces.

 This is the project I'll work on today (PJ Day =^.^=).  I've already made this, but now I'll make up Kerry's project which she has been delayed on for other projects.  My hope is to give it to her tomorrow.  It is all cut and ready to assemble.  A small project that I'm pretty comfortable I can finish.

The last swapper's HSTs arrived just now.  Looking for dividing them all out and shipping them off this weekend.  Any of you participating swappers looking for a HST project to work on during the Independence Holiday?  They'll be ready for you.

I have two small quilts to claim as used today.  Both are for the Moore, OK 1st/2nd graders who will celebrate the opening of their new school with an ice cream social.

I purchased 5.75 yards of fabric at Memory Lane, but have already used it so I won't take time to add and subtract.  The big piece is for the back of Kloudburst and the other .75 yards is going towards the extra blocks to make Kilowatts larger.

I was "quilt retreating" this weekend with eight others.  So much fun to spend time with my quilting sisters.  I worked on four projects, two of those were the ice cream quilts.  Kilowatts saw a little bit of work...not much.  The last project was Kaskade.  I changed my mind on the background and didn't have enough of the fabrics I decided on to work much on it.

Today was the turn in day for the HST Swap that I've been coordinating.  I got six swappers blocks.  Here's a sampling of what came from Susie, Collette, Joan, Liz, Kerry and Debra.  I have one yet to get and I'll be working to divvy them up and send them to everyone.

Happy Fathers Day!  Dad loves his new golf shoes...what a pose!  Hope they give you lots of great games...

I have a finish YIPPEE to report.  Kloudburst is done!  Kloudburst is my June 2013 UFO #9 with 52Quilts.com.  Oh is it satisfying to have a completion...  I did have to beef up my purchased stats a bit to finish it, but only by a 1/2 yard.  The inner border just wasn't to be had in my stash.

Since I was at Beverlys finding the right fabric for Kloudburst; my next project Kaskade needed some medium greens.  Well you may remember that I've been using my green stash lately hence medium greens are not among fabrics in my green tote...  Another purchase, but these 1/2 yard pieces will be used up real soon.  Sometimes you just have to purchase to use your stash.  This was one of those times.

Last up are the fabrics for the second Ice Cream quilt for the 1st/2nd graders of Moore, OK.  I'm going to use the Project Linus pattern put out by Quiltmaker Jan/Feb 2006 for this one.

Saturday brought Connie's HSTs.  I really like the rich colors she used in her blocks.  Everyone is beating the due date...just a few more to receive before I can sort them all out and send them back.
