I'm doing a HAPPY DANCE!  I have a UFO FINISH!
Kookoo Katchu
June 2016 UFO
Having Kookoo Katchu done means I am finally up-to-date with my yearly UFO Challenge with Marti and 52Quilts.com.  Now I wait just one day until August UFO project is called.  Nothing like coming down to the wire this month =^.^=
Kayenne
May 2016 UFO
Kontentment
July 2016 UFO
Kayenne was finished earlier in the month and fortunately July UFO was already a finish earlier this year.  So bring it on August...

For stash reporting it is always nice to have a finish, right?  Kookoo Katchu had some fabric purchased, but also a Christmas gift well used in the background fabric.  I plan to use scraps from the project for the back, sleeve, and maybe the binding.  What do you think about the light blue in the quilt's middle for a binding?  Too light?  I do think it needs to have some color around the edges; the dark blue used in the vines is calling out to me a bit though.  Opinions please, now I know you have one.

Aren't these the cutest?  Kerry found them during a recent vacation she took.  I guess I'll have to make a sash to sew them on to.  Is there such a thing as Good Quilter badges...

The first applique border is in place on Kookoo Katchu.  I have it glued down right now.  Stitching will start with the vines first which should be at lunchtime today.

I will start at the top and work my way down the side.  There is an identical applique pattern on the bottom right side.  Anxious on this pretty project!

Before starting on the vines I set out to finish Sunshine Quilt Guild's 2017 Opportunity Quilt.  All done; now to make arrangements to get it to the next member for label.  Someone is working on the tickets.  Its debut will be at the San Diego Quilt Show in the Fall.  Yes, it is Bonnie Hunter's design called Garden Party.  I hope the winning ticket for this one is mine :)!  If not another design in my "want to make bucket".

Hope there is something exciting going on in your sewing room today!  There is more to see through the links at Patchwork Times.

Kookoo Katchu
2016 June UFO
I have the borders on now.  It is time for the applique to be set in place.

I plan to work on the top left side first.  I have enough vine and applique pieces prepared to have that happen.  I had thought I might leave the border off to stitch down the applique, but changed my mind on that.  The border is only 6" finished and the quilt top itself isn't too big.  Putting them on first helps align the placement better.

I stayed away from quilt shops this week.  Lots of progress on Kookoo Katchu, but its finish won't be this week.  I'm still hoping for the finish in July.  Here is my stash report for this 31st week of 2016.

TGIF!  Wish that it was an OFF Friday for me :(

I have Kookoo Katchu piecing on my design wall less the borders.  You can see that I have that going on too.  I've been working on the applique parts.

There aren't too many pieces to prepare.  Only three different shapes.  The majority of these will be the leaf that doubles as petals in a couple of flowers.

The difficult part is preparing the bias vine.  I really don't prefer using the binding tool with the tape.  I have it, tried it.  The old fashion way works best for me.  I want the vine to finish 1/4" wide.  I'll be using the darkest of the blues.  You may notice in the first photograph the placement of the dark blue.
It is all coming together for a finish by the end of the month!  Have a wonderful Friday and enjoy the weekend.  We are staying away from the city this weekend...Comicon is in full attendance all weekend!

I have all the pieced units of Kookoo Katchu together.  It is my June UFO.  I am busy putting together Block 1.  The rest of the design is pretty much in the sashing.  You didn't think my Design Wall would be without something for too long...now did you?

This of course is just the start, but it shouldn't take too much time to finish Block 1s.  The time will come when the applique gets started.  This is where I'll be slowing down LOL.

While I was at a quilting retreat not long ago, Janet had a box like this for storing all of her Perle threads.  (Janet actually had a bunch of these boxes.)  One is all I need unless I find myself evolving into another quilting path =^.^=.  It is much better than a gallon size baggie.  I had room for some fancy threads and mono filament in my box.

It is a fishing tackle box made by Plano.  23780-00 Deep Stowaway Box with Adjustable Dividers at just $16.66.  I got mine through Amazon.

Another neat thing learned about at the quilt retreat was this battery operated fan.  Candi had one that I borrowed when she wasn't using it.  Mine came to me as a surprise from my Mom.  She purchased it at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Until next time, be safe and watch your back.  There are way too many nasty things going on around us.  See other projects through the links at Patchwork Times.

Finally I have something USED!  Kayenne was finished on Monday.  This pleases me more than you can imagine.  It is a beautiful project that was too long in the making for me.  May UFO is in the books.  Designed by Valori Wells called High Desert Paprika.

I plan to use this wide batik fabric for the back.  I have had it in my stash for awhile now just waiting for Kayenne.

Now is the start of June UFO, Kookoo Katchu.  I just love saying this, it is just fun =^.^=  I have all the pieces cut now.  Today I'll be at the sewing machine stitching away.  Kookoo Katchu has an applique border which will slow me down a little bit.  This design is by Linda Ballard called A Gaggle of Geese.  Hope I can finish this project this month.

I have the binding and sleeve machine stitched down on Sunshine Quilt Guild Opportunity Quilt.  You may recognize the design from Bonnie Hunter called Garden Party.  The hand stitching comes next.  Tickets will soon be available...

It is a fabulous day in San Diego!  The windows are all wide open and the breeze is making the ceiling fans rotate.  I have been sitting in my favorite chair binding, stitching down labels and sleeves.  Kissin' Korner just finished!  Isn't it fun?
Kissin' Korner
It certainly is a nice surprise using my left over units.  I made a mistake assembling double what I needed in the blocks.  I consider this a bonus so that I can make another.  I really like the design that Bonnie Hunter created; Kiss in the Corner!

You can read about the making through the Label "Kissin' Korner" on the right side bar.  Enjoy your Friday =^.^=

Kayenne
80" x 92"
May 2016 UFO

Kayenne is complete and boy is this one snazzy project.  It is High Desert Paprika by Valori Wells.  It was the 2007 Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Raffle Quilt design.  I have had two wonderful visits since May when this UFO was to be finished, but both of them were well worth the delay.  I am happy to be ready for stitching Kookoo Katchu my June UFO.  It's exciting to have a change to my Design Wall!
Empty Design Wall
Kookoo Katchu will be lots of flying geese units and a bit of retro looking applique.  In shades of blue with a yellow gold accent.  Honestly I couldn't visual this project in any other color combination.  Totally different then Kayenne you must agree; nothing like variety =^.^=

Have a wonderful week.  More awesome projects can be seen through the links today at Patchwork Times.

Sunday Stash Report, July 10, 2016

Karen left on Wednesday morning arriving home safely nearly six hours later.  The cross country flights are long.  She found time on the plane to finish the cute cards she makes...something to while away the minutes.  Wednesday was a long day for me too since we were up at 3:30am to be ready for any kind of delay for her early 6:45am flight.  I went straight to work and napped in the parking lot nearly an hour.  Yes bedtime came early for me that night.

I have fabrics now for my June UFO, Kookoo Katchu.  I'm two months behind right now.  July's UFO, Kontentment, was announced and my project is done.  May's, Kayenne, is just about finished.  We will see what progress takes place today.

KooKoo Katchu won't be from my stash except for the background.  Another add to my stash.  I am still in the black...

Happy Independence Day!

I've been totally involved with my Sister's visit.  Oh my gosh...today started off with Old Towne where shopping took place!  A very light lunch at Old Towne Mexican Cafe then on the Trolley to the Gas Lamp Quarter.  It wasn't as big of a success as Old Towne with Karen since there weren't as many cute shops.  After a great dinner at Rockin' Baja Lobster we headed towards the south Embarcadero for the Big Bay Boom fireworks display.  Magnificent...

Got loads of help on Kayenne pulling the papers off.  I'm ready to get the sashing around these awesome blocks.

I had a chance to get to Rosie's for the fabrics that will be used in June's UFO that I'm calling Kookoo Katchu.  I'll be counting these fabrics as an add to my Stash Report on Sunday.  I am going to use a Christmas Gift from my Mom of white fabric for the background.  There will be more on Kookoo Katchu just as soon as I can get Kayenne that is May's UFO off the Design Wall.
Binding done on Kattastic.  You can see all my finished quilts at www.kwiltnkats.com.

Until next time, enjoy your time in your sewing room.  Patchwork Times has more projects you can treat yourself to today.

Sunday Stash Report, July 3, 2016

This week started off with an excellent dollarwise purchase.  Primitive Gatherings was offering $5 a yard on Pam Budda's Prairie Gathering fabric line.  I didn't have my back for Kanton Kull yet...well at that price I do now.
I picked up these three half yard pieces at Beverly's to see how they might work for the melons in Kayenne.  Yes, I'm still working on May's UFO :(
During my sister's visit we went up to the Temecula Valley.  There are a few quilt shops up there that are a must visit.  Primitive Gatherings, Temecula Quilt Company, and A Needle in a Haystack are in the area.  I had been to Primitive Gatherings recently with Mom so...Temecula Quilt Company and A Needle in a Haystack were stops on Friday.  We met up with Bonnie and away we went.

Once again there is a plus to my stash and nothing to show for it.  Oh well, if I don't have fabric...there won't be any sewing to be done right?
