Sunday Stash Report, July 25, 2010

I'm just getting started with my Stash Reporting for 2010...so my numbers look very different from those who started earlier this year. Hey, one has to start somewhere, right? Let me tell you though I have an estimated 1,044 yards of fabric in my stash. I've estimated my stash by weighing it. According to my home scale one pound comes to four yards of fabric (no I don't have a scale that displays to the ounce, please!). Between the 11 tote pans that hold my stash I have 261 pounds. Just doesn't seem possible. I'm not sure where you draw the line in calculating ones stash because I didn't include my Stash User's containers of useable strips in various sizes from 1.5" to 6.5" (must I?). Well I think I'm a little overwhelmed after doing the math, but let me tell you I'm extremely committed to using my stash.

Used this week: 10 yards
Used YTD: 10 yards
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 0 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2010: 10 yards

Stash by Pound:
26 pounds blue
25 pounds black/gray
24 pounds purple/yellow
27 pounds brown/orange/gold
24 pounds green/teal
21 pounds white/cream
27 pounds red/pink/burgundy
29 pounds various big pieces
28 pounds novelty pet
22 pounds projects not started
8 pounds Projects started

Now because this looks so bad and I'm sure feeling like I've not accomplished a thing, let me share a little about what I've done so far this year that my starting Stash Report numbers don't reflect. I've finished 27 quilts so far and have three not far from being done. I have challenged myself to complete five UFO projects a year; four are done. I have also challenged myself to complete five UFO patterns a year; four of these are done. A little about the UFO patterns....you know how we all collect patterns, be them free or otherwise--well I want to work on my pattern stash too. I've identified at least 30 I want to complete with many calling out loudly. They've been contributing to my stash for years (soon Judy Niemeyer, promise!)

Well enough talking it's time to sew!

Wow, you are courageous in calculating/ weighing your stash! I believe many people just start and call it day 1 - then just report what is going in or out and take it from there.
I see it as potential to do good! As your history shows: so many projects that can be supported with things made from your stash!
Welcome and success!

Wow! I am one who started and just am keeping track of how much comes in(enhancement/freshening) and goes out(reduction/busting). With a stash like that, there is no way I could get it down without making quilting robotic work not pleasure. Welcome to the group!

Wow, make this fun. I just log what's new and when I use old stuff it will just meld into "net used YTD" I'm still pulling fabric out of boxes and totes, moving my sewing room around. Just make this easy and fun, welcome to the group.

Rest assured I'm having a wonderful time creating beautiful quilts. I certainly don't consider any minute I spend sewing a chore. Thanks for the warm welcome.

Wow, my stash looks like a drop in the bucket compared to what you have. You must still have a garage full. lol My daughter loves to quilt, it is her passion, and donates so many beautiful quilts.

Love the idea of pattern UFOs. I'm trying to make one from each magazine I've collected over, ahem, 14 years!
