Kourtepointe April 2017 UFO |
... where I ramble on about my love of quilting with my work in progress, share some of my day's doings, and offer some sewing tips along the way... You can find my completed projects on my web page at www.kwiltnkats.com. Comments make me smile =^.^=...

I am thrilled to have my April UFO finished. April is going to be a busy month for me. With this news from Patchwork Times I am doing a Happy Dance!
Kourtepointe finished towards the end of February. There is an entire collection of lavender 10" squares that made up the back. Kerry has it in her quilting queue next to her same project. Kerry already has one of these projects finished. She'll be quilting three. Funny how different they all turned out. Each one has a different pink shade that makes up the star. All three are being quilted in different designs and different thread. Here is a link to my finish. I really enjoy the few weeks worth of clues the annual Bonnie Hunter Winter Mystery brings us. This past year's project En Provence was ooh la la.

Kissin' Korner 2 2017 UFO |
The second Kissin' Korner 2 (design by Bonnie Hunter, Kiss in the Corner) is on my wall. The sashing and setting triangles need stitching to finish this project. I have 120 of the 168 finished.
Using nothing but Stash is awesome! Likely these last 2" strips will get me to that 168 unit requirement. Kissin' Korner had yellow setting triangles; thinking about blue for this project.
On Saturday from Kerry's I brought home two gift quilts. Karen needed a new king for her bed, so Kloggs was made. Black binding is planned for this one.
Don't you just love the feather quilting design?
Mom needed a twin for her multi-purpose room (guest/office/sewing room). My parents love a patriotic quilt so Kozy Korners was made.
I'm not so certain what color the binding fabric should be at the moment. Red, gold, and blue are all options...
I hope your week goes exactly as you hope it will. Check out more projects through the links at Patchwork Times.

Kourageous March 2017 UFO 39" x 39" 2,293 pieces |
From there it sat for how to arrange the blocks into a setting. My friend Shelly came up with the setting block idea. It was ready for my 2017 UFO project list. This month it was called to complete...Kourageous was finally going to be a reality. Fabric choice for the setting blocks and border #2 were a big consideration because I wanted to keep the flowers the focus. After all when each block had an average of 100 pieces emphasis to them was foremost. As Janet O commented the setting blocks have a glow to them... Perfect I accomplished my idea =^.^=
The flower, designer, 2011 UFO month, and how many pieces.

The setting block is Wild Goose Chase and it has 57 pieces. It sure was delightful to have the last three borders be solid pieces! I have enough of the black animal theme background to use for the binding or maybe it will be just a solid black. It is off for quilting tomorrow. Kerry will come up with something grand I am positive.

I'm looking for opinions on the borders for Kourageous...
This is the solid piece 2nd border. What you see are the unfinished measurements. It would be skinnier when sewn together. The finished size will make it closer to the measurement of the finished units in the setting blocks.
This border option would finish:
Border 1 = 1.5"
Border 2 = .75"
Border 3 = 2"
The one below is the pieced HST 2nd border. Again you see unfinished measurements. The HSTs would finish at 1.5" that is the same size as the corner HSTs in the setting blocks. I would make these units similar in color as the few I've sewn together. The white three are really a very pale green (the lighting not so good).
This border option would finish:
Border 1 = 1.5"
Border 2 = 1.5"
Border 3 = 2"
I think once the HSTs are seen at the finished size they will look very different. Can you picture them being the same size as the setting blocks HST corners? I could also change the orientation of the HSTs with the black towards the center. Didn't think of this when taking the photos urgh!
So what do you think...

Kourageous 2017 March UFO |
These are just a couple of close ups. Next up deciding on a border. My friend suggested the one below. I tried to look at it with the fabrics "not cut". The spacing isn't exactly correct, but a good idea can be realized.
I'd like to try something a bit more pieced. So I went to a Bloc Loc Border Book picked up at Road to California Quilt Show this past January. I really like Rocket to the Moon. It is the top quilt layout that has me excited. I did a couple of blocks to see how it might look. More would need to be sewn before I can tell. I am thinking at the moment that the scale is off. Opinions?
Of course there is always just a single green border, but this just isn't my style =^.^=
The design wall is still a design wall...right? See other projects through the links at Patchwork Times.

Kastaway January 2017 UFO |
Looks like a skeleton image. Too funny!
So now on to March UFO. These are all the throwaways from just one of the setting blocks. I'm having a debate on the greens to use. I want the flowers to be what strikes; so I am hoping to down play the setting blocks.
I am leaning towards the darker greens. I think the tones being cooler offer the pop I'm looking for. Maybe I need to make a bright green one just to get more visual.

I have included a close up for you too. My DH created this name that fits it very well. If you want to see more up close check out my website. My latest are at the bottom of this page.

Next up is Konstant Konnection. Funny how frequently "konnection" comes into names of my quilts. =^.^= Thanks to my sister for its name. I think this one would make a great baby quilt for a little girl. It also doubles as a Valentines project.

I have finished piecing the top's center. Kakes in the Kribyard is coming along nicely. Too bad I couldn't have claimed it as a UFO finish...soon :)
This is the constant for the inner border and the center of the braid planned for the outer border. I used all of the lights from the original project and a little from my stash. The darks were all from the original project. Finally those HSTs are all from the original project. I'll need to dig into my stash for all the dark braid rectangles. Doubt there will be a shortage of scraps to choose from. =^.^=
