If you Pre-Registered for San Diego's Quilt Shop Hop (aka Cruisin Quilters Run), then today is your first day to dash off to quilt shops around the area and receive the 15% off discount. Too bad for the run that the weather is rainy...just remember we need it bad in this area...get your umbrellas or hooded rain gear and boots on! I don't see any mention of FREE block design from each shop so maybe organizers have changed the format this year. I'm sure the shops will have some fun things going on nonetheless.
I signed up for another Buggy Barn workshop. This one is called Bunny Trail. It will be at Paradise Sewing in Poway on March 11. I've already started collecting fabrics for it. I found the same deal as Debra, $14.00 for the book Stir Crazy through Amazon. The book is listed as NEW, probably less that the usual price because it is one of Buggy Barn's first books. Anxious to fill my pizza box with parts and pieces of this cute Springtime design.
I have all the pieces cut for Kranberries now so I'll spend some of this rainy day in San Diego putting units together. Tomorrow I will be learning which UFO to work on when Marti of 52 Quilts chooses a number for us. Until then it's full throttle on Kranberries!
Enjoy your Friday, keep dry...

Kingsford Kove 56" x 68" |
Now I'm full speed on Kranberries. I have one more piece to cut; 912 red 2 1/2" squares. I have some of these started, but probably not more than a quarter of what is required. I'll have something on my design wall before the weekend is out. Sad to look at a bare design wall...
I want to share another instances of "K" naming that I happened upon today. I'll let the two emails speak...

Hello,
I was looking at images when searching the web for the word Krossfire. Specifically, I was looking for images of my quilt as I am a quilt artist. In the quilting world many name their quilts especially if they will be in publications, shows, or become patterns. Some years ago I decided the letter "K" would be my thing to start each of the names of my quilts. Anyway it turns out that a few of my quilts have the same name as some of your Arabian horses. I've come up with some pretty clever "K" names that may be of interest. I'm certainly interested in some that you've cleverly created. Kazanova, Kaptivant, Kognac, and Katalyst are all great for a quilt. Actually I have several already listed as potential names for a future quilt (among them Katalyst, Kahula, and Kognac). If you find interest here, as I have, some of my "K" name creations can be seen on my website or on my blog (links below). I have several more not yet assigned as well on a list that keeps growing as something comes to mind. By the way the quilts Krossfire right now under the needle =^.^= and Kilowatts are my next quilt show entries for the 2015 Road to California Quilt Show in the coming year. I had great success in the show this year with Kartwheels (2nd Place in Category) and Koriander Kompass. I'm hoping to be accepted at the Houston International Quilt Show with them, wish me success. I also see a fondness for cats! I have Komotion a 14 years young Abyssinian. Kaos was my first Abyssinian; who I'll meet someday under the Rainbow Bridge. I hope this communique gives you a lift as coming across your beautiful Krossfire achieved today for me. Good fortune, Sandi

Korral 81" x 81" |
Korral binding is all done. I was a bit concerned the scrappy green binding wouldn't work, but I like it. Don't you just love the quilting design?
Next up for binding is Kingsford Kove. I have the scrappy black binding in place and ready for hand stitching. Wonder if Netflix will be bring a good movie today...

I am busy binding this weekend. Marco's Denim quilt was finished. I'll be giving it to him tomorrow. I'm excited to see the look of surprise he'll have on his face since he has no idea at all he's getting it.
Today after all the chores I will be working on Korral. I hope this green binding was the right choice. It is a scrappy one using all the leftover greens from the center of the quilt. I love the quilting on this one by Ann Bright called Fable. The variegated Signature thread in blue looks just terrific. Thank you Kerry for stitching this one up so perfectly.
I should have time to put together a scrappy binding for Kingsford Kove too. The gray fabric at the top will be the sleeve. It is the same fabric I used for the back. This quilting stitch called Torrent with the Obsidian thread is not too bad either. Again it's Kerry's Quilting.
I do have a little bit to claim as used this week. Kwetzalcoatl (the Dragon quilt) was finished. As soon as Kerry can quilt this one it will be in the mail to Zackary.

I also finished binding the denim quilt. This project has been around for awhile. Marco will be so excited when he receives his surprise. Most of the jeans if not all of them are from his recycled pants. He gave me so many pants since 2009 that I have made many Veteran Donations. Time for him to get the "pay it forward"!

Kwetzalcoatl #6 February 2014 UFO 63" x 63" |
These next two projects are Joan's. She participated in a HST Swap I coordinated in 2013 with 18 others. Here is what Joan says about her projects:
"I have a top done with the half-square triangles (HSTs). I started with a pattern called ‘Toast and Jam’ that used charms and a jelly roll and adjusted the sizes for the HSTs. It worked out to be about twin size – 60x84ish.
I had leftover triangles, so I put 4 together and tried a scrappy disappearing pinwheel pattern (video by Missouri Star Quilt Co. at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rgQd6asPQs). I will have 12 blocks, so I am trying to figure out how to put them together."

If you are celebrating President's Day I hope that your day is a good one. My workplace worked :(!
I just finished Oasis. The dragon fabric is just too cute. I plan the green star fabric for the binding. I had Kasbah all picked out as a name, but it just doesn't seem to go with the dragon theme...help me out with a more appropriate name. This project is my February UFO. Information on Oasis can be found HERE (it is #6).
These blocks are called Valentine Hugs (Old Italian Block). They are the BOM for Sunshine Quilt Guild. I am a bit more partial to the block with the red center. It was a fun block to assemble. Thanks Jo
Saturday I got back from Kerry three quilts. Kingsford Kove, Korral, and a denim quilt. I trimmed them down now it is time for preparing the binding. I will have some TV time this coming week.
Finally, the project I plan to get a head start on is Bonnie Hunter's Talking Turkey. The 9-Patches and String Blocks were from a recent swap putting me ahead a bit on the project, but there is still lots to go. This is my #1 on my list of 2014 UFOs that I am trying to get a head start on. I have yet to decide on a name for this project and would be happy to hear any suggestions that come to mind.
Hope your week ahead is wonderful. See more fun project on Design Walls through the links at Patchwork Times.

I purchased a bunch this past week...all on Saturday. My goodness I've been bad these past two months! The top two fabrics came from Rosie's Calico Cupboard. They are both for my February UFO. The blue is for the inner border and the star/stripe is for the back. The back really looks great with the dragons. Zackary is going to love his new quilt.
Kerry and I went to Country Loft next...mostly to use her Christmas gift, but then we discovered a 25% sale going on...need I say more? I am not sure that I shared this pattern with you before. Kalvery is what I will be calling my Freedom Rings from Red Crinoline Quilts. Honestly I was surprised to realize that brown was a dominate reproduction fabric in the quilt. Kerry has lots of reds so we think we are covered in that area. Kerry and I will be using this as a team project when we get together for sewing days.
Kerry had for me three quilting finishes on Saturday; a denim quilt, Korral, and Kingsford Kove. I'll have lots of binding to do for awhile. Kwiver and Kookaburra are next in the quilting queue. I'll have pictures of the three just finished quilting soon. Kasbah (which I plan to rename to something a little more dragon appropriate) will be on my blog tomorrow all finished.
Hope you had a good week. Mine, although full of purchases and no finishes, turned out pretty good. I am going to have to get a bunch of finishes soon to get my stats going in the right direction.

I have two quilts to share with you today.
First, Logan will be happy with his pirate quilt. I'll just make it in time before he turns one in March. Kaptain Khorous happens to be one of my 2014 UFOs. It is from a class called Harmony Square by Linda Ballard.Second, is Kilowatts. This one has been in work since about March last year. It started out as a smaller version, but was spotted by my friend Charmagne. Cara her daughter just received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Kilowatts celebrates that achievement. I wish you much success and bright future. Congratulations! Annie Unrein designed this pattern called High Voltage.
Hope your Valentines Day is perfect!

I'm busy sewing my February UFO. I need a boy quilt for a great nephew that was born near Thanksgiving time. This design by Sally Frey called Oasis will do the trick. Certainly had to change the fabrics to something more appropriate. I will also be making it a bit shorter, by eliminating the last two rows. The stars in the borders will definitely stay. I tried to find a website for Sally Frey without luck. Kenmar Designs is her company and if you decide you want to make the design she shows an email address fgertie@aol.com. Mind you I have had this pattern for a few years....
I also took time to separate out the Red Strings/Nine Patch Swap that I have been coordinating. The swap was designed for parts needed in Bonnie Hunter's Talking Turkey. I think several of us in the swap plan to make that project. I'm excited to get mine started.
I only have one block sewn up, but lots of pieces ready to assemble. Besides the dragon and green star fabrics everything else is coming from my stash.

I'll have pictures later this week of Kilowatts and Kaptain Khorous finished. Come back and check them out! Others are working in their sewing rooms too. Visit Patchwork Times today and see all the exciting projects.

Bits and Pieces in Poway, CA saw me a couple of times this past week. I picked up fabrics for my February UFO. Isn't the fabric cute?
Today I'm working on the UFO project, hand sewing down binding, and sorting out the Red Strings/Nine-Patch Swap blocks. Anxious to get Kilowatts and Kaptain Khorous in the hands of their new owners. I'm just a little behind in getting that done.

I am participating in A Red and White Quilt Show (made prior to 2014) by SewCalGal. If you have a red and white quilt...why not play along?
Tree of Life from the Temecula Quilt Company publication called A Collection of Small Red and White Quilts. Mine finished at 11" x 13" in March 2013. This pattern came to me during the Red and White Quilt Show at the Temecula Quilt Company where Krimson Khat was entered in October 2011. It was also one of my 2012 UFOs. I know that copse is a group of trees. I searched all over for something appropriate with a "K" and this worked the best.
My entries for this part of the Show...quilts made prior to 2014. It's funny that both of my quilts finished in the same month don't you think? =^.^=
Dove in the Window from Glad Creations, Inc. (pattern #CG161). Mine finished at 86" x 101" in March 2011. I purchased this pattern via Sew Batik at the 2009 Long Beach Quilt Show. I gave it the name Krimson Khat in going with the name given the pattern. (I name all my quilts with "Ks".) Crimson being a shade of red and khat being a bird.

There are three parts to the show. The next part is called Design It! that is February 10 - March 23rd. Make sure you enjoy all of the quilts in the show. See all the details at SewCalGal.

Khorous, #3 2014 UFO |
Until I get #6 February 2014 going nothing else for my design wall right now. This February project is called Oasis by Sally Frey. It uses a Friendship Star unit and a Square in a Square unit. The overall size is 64" x 86" but I think I'll make mine a row shorter. I still need to work on my black tote pan being able to shut better so considering blacks, grays and a bright accent color. Stay tuned this week as I start putting Kasbah together.

Konqueror, January UFO #7 |
I did purchase a few new Bloc Loc Rulers that haven't arrived yet. I have two finishes this week in Konqueror and Khorous! Khorous is my #3 UFO that has yet to be called. I did learn that #6 is for February. Did you see the www.52Quilts.com UFO Parade yesterday? I have a good trend going and hope more reports like this are in store for the rest of the year... Well maybe a little less in the Purchased statistic.
Used this week: 26.25 yards

Purchased this week: 11 yards

Net Fabric Used in 2014: 19.25 yards

A look at Khorous and more on my #6 February UFO will be on my Design Wall Monday post. Hope you come back tomorrow.
