Tuesday, November 11, 2014 - WINNER!

I learned yesterday that I was a lucky winner of Year of Red/White Quilt Challenges brought to us by SewCalGal.  You can see my blog post about the two quilt entries here.

My prize is a Corner Clipper Template by Prairie Sky Quilting.  With the endorsement by SewCalGal it should be a perfect tool to add to my tool box.

Thank you SewCalGal for the opportunity and all the folks who voted for me.

I am participating in A Red and White Quilt Show (made prior to 2014) by SewCalGal.  If you have a red and white quilt...why not play along?
My entries for this part of the Show...quilts made prior to 2014.  It's funny that both of my quilts finished in the same month don't you think?   =^.^=

Dove in the Window from Glad Creations, Inc. (pattern #CG161).  Mine finished at 86" x 101" in March 2011.  I purchased this pattern via Sew Batik at the 2009 Long Beach Quilt Show.  I gave it the name Krimson Khat in going with the name given the pattern.  (I name all my quilts with "Ks".)  Crimson being a shade of red and khat being a bird.
Krimson Khat
Tree of Life from the Temecula Quilt Company publication called A Collection of Small Red and White Quilts.  Mine finished at 11" x 13" in March 2013.  This pattern came to me during the Red and White Quilt Show at the Temecula Quilt Company where Krimson Khat was entered in October 2011.  It was also one of my 2012 UFOs.  I know that copse is a group of trees.  I searched all over for something appropriate with a "K" and this worked the best.
Koppice

There are three parts to the show.  The next part is called Design It! that is February 10 - March 23rd.  Make sure you enjoy all of the quilts in the show.  See all the details at SewCalGal.

Happy Wednesday!  On my way Monday night to meet up with Jeanne for dinner before Canyon Quilt Guild monthly meeting, I stopped by Beverly's.  I was hoping to find a printy green or pink in a dark shade for one of the last two remaining compass blocks to be made.  This one isn't  exactly what I was looking for but, since I've made a few pink projects it's one color I don't have much of.  This light pink will work in well so a FQ came home with me.  Beverly's has a nice Memorial Day Sale this coming Sunday and Monday...all fabric 25% off!

When I got home I received a package from Janet O.  I was the lucky winner of her Blog Anniversary Celebration.  I received a real special mini quilt, a bunch of FEs, her soaps and a needle nanny.  I'm looking for a special place to display her quilt, the FEs are already tucked neatly in my stash, the first bar of soap is waiting for me, and the needle nanny will get a go as soon as I get time to sit down to sew.  Be sure to check out Janet O's blog; she has lots going on in her sewing room.  Thanks Janet.

Design Wall Monday, April 15, 2013

Kalahari is on my wall still.  I didn't sew much on this project over the weekend.  I did take sew one of the triangles and a corner just to see what it will look like.  They go together fast which is nice.  The monthly meeting of Canyon is tonight so no sewing until tomorrow.  Kalahari will have my complete attention in the sewing room until the top is done.  After all it is my April UFO and it's got to be done by the end of the month.

Saturday and Sunday sewing was on Kilowatts.  I have all the blocks, setting triangles, and corners done.  It's now time for removing the paper.  I'll be doing that during my lunch break today.  Maybe my friends will lend me a hand.  Once Kalahari comes down from the design wall Kilowatts goes up.  A second finish is looming this week.

Saturday I got from Kerry my Knoted quilt.  I have the sleeve and binding prepared and ready to sew down.  Knoted is one of Judy's designs Note to Self that she gave us awhile back.  Have you made this one?

I check out Quiltmakers Blog nearly everyday.  I happened to be lucky last month and won the three publications above.  There are some nice projects within their pages.  Notice its Volume 1 of the 100 Blocks  magazine?  This is one sought after Volume.  EXCITED!!!

This last project is Kloudburst.  It's UFO number is 9 for Thirteen in 2013 with 52Quilts.com.  Number 9 hasn't been called yet, but I'll be ready.

Hope you have time to glance at some of the other quilters who have participated this Monday on Patchwork Times.  Have a great week ahead.

I'm in another theme contest with the Quilting Gallery this weekend.  The theme being Group Exchange Quilts.  If you find Keeping Kool worthy of a vote I'd love to have it.  Here is the link for this week's voting.  I know some of you had a difficult time voting when I did this once before.  I hope it is smoother this time.  You do have to scroll down a bit to find the voting buttons.  Voting starts Friday, September 28, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. (EDT) and last until the following Monday, October 1, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. (EDT).  You can also get to Quilting Gallery through the button/link on the right that's purple called Weekly Themed Quilt Contests then select the link "Continue Reading".  The theme that you'll be voting on is Group Exchange Quilts.

Keeping Kool
36 x 50
February 2012
Some of you may remember this group challenge, a Row Robin,  that was with Sunshine Quilt Guild in 2009.  I started it off with the Dancing Sea Gulls in November 2009 and six rows later in June 2010 I got it back.  Totally AWESOME!  Everyone was quite creative.  About half of the rows are 3-D.  The shorts have elastic waistbands, and the shirts have buttons.  There is so much going on with the sand/VW Van row you just have to enlarge the photo.  Kerry's Quilting is who I had quilt it in a stitch that was befitting what was going on in the row.  I finished it in February of this year.

I'm quilt retreating this weekend!  Vote for Keeping Kool!

I've submitted a quilt in Quilting Gallery's weekly contest.  This week's theme is Scrappy.  I make so many scrappy quilts that it was difficult to pick one!  Voting will start around Friday, August 17th at 8am EDT and will last until Monday, August 20th at 8am EDT.

I'd love it if you cast your vote for Kordova Klosure.  The quilt is Bonnie Hunter's design from last year's mystery called Orca Bay.  I made mine into a King size by adding the three outside red borders. You can get to the voting by the link on my side bar called Weekly Themed Quilt Contests.  Once there click on the Vote Now: Scrappy Quilts link to submit your vote.

2011 Pets on Quilts, Wednesday, August 17, 2011

After learning about the 2011 Pets on Quilts sponsored by sewcalgal I read all the entries that had been submitted through mid day Monday…45 of them in total. There are so many great stories of cats, dogs, and even bunnies; not to mention all the great quilty projects. There is so much love expressed in these posts at times it was overwhelming to read. There are a lot of angels among us.

So where should my Pets on Quilts story start?

Dutchess
Dutchess came first; a beautiful, loyal, and very smart white German Shepherd. Dutchess has been gone for sometime now, but I’m always reminded of her when I see someone walking their white shepherd. For me there will never be another Dutchess. She never knew my sewing path would move to quilting, but she enjoyed the comfort on my bed with Grandma’s quilts.  I've had a quilt made by my Grandma since I was a child.

Kaos
Let’s fast forward to 1999 when Kaos came into our home. A beautiful tiny Abyssinian kitten of 12 weeks (our first experience with a cat). We were on the hunt for this particular breed of cat because of its dog like traits. Kaos is every bit of her name which is also completely true of “Abys”. It’s this same year when my desire to quilt took shape. Kaos is sitting on my second quilt Happy to be Scrappy.  Learning how involved a cat can be…it was ever apparent I needed to keep my tools and notions away from her inquisitive and playful soul.

Komotion
In 2000 at 10 weeks Komotion (KoKo for short) joined our happy family. Kaos quickly became friends with KoKo (like he had any choice). Here he is basking in the sun on the more recent Kapella.  He’s rambunctious too, but a bit more skeptical to attempt any of the crazy antics of Kaos. When he does a Kaos type antic it takes a moment to realize it's him. Yes it’s hard to tell the two apart, but you know parents always can.

Kitty Kandy

Kevin

My quilting projects have included lots of cat theme; from quilts and garments to dolls.  Dogs, bunny, lamb, duck, frog, bears, whale, eagle, horse, chicken, penguin, reindeer, dinosaurs, sea horses, bugs, and a monster are also part of my projects. These quilts are in my home, gifted, donated to various charities, and commissioned.

Dancing with the Dogs
Kerry and I have made quilts for the annual “Fur Ball” that is the annual main fundraising event hosted by the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. This is our seventh year to donate. We delivered just this week Dancing with the Dogs for the 25th event that will be held this Saturday. Hopefully this will be a banner year for their “Fur Ball” with the quilt making a large contribution.

I have shown you just a few of my quilts with this post. Leave a comment to give me a chance to win some prizes (you can win too).  More can be seen on my Animal Theme Quilts Page on the side bar if you want to take a peek. Use the Home Page on the side bar if you want to return to this post.  Good luck to everyone!
