Took time from the mystery project to trim down and get the binding and sleeve on Kurry.  I got this beauty back from Kerry last Tuesday.  I just can't get over how beautiful it has turned out.

The solid looking purple in the first photo is the border so I selected a purple to be the binding too.  I used the yellow of the back for the sleeve.

I love the Tiara block, border, and corner motifs.  With the quilting in a variegated purple thread.  Once I have the binding in place I will share Kurry's full view.  Until then there is some stitching to do, all 297" of it!

UFO Finishes #3, #9, #5, and #1, April 1, 2017

I sure haven't been successful posting my UFO finishes on Patchwork Times before the link up closes.  Some of this has to do with getting them finished during the appointed month.  So this post catches up.  All these are waiting their turn at Kerry's Quilting.

Kissin' Korner 2
2017 UFO
Saturday I spent the afternoon with Kerry.  After lunch at Dudley's Deli, thread and quilting designs were selected for four different projects that I added to her queue.  Next I cut into units some three 2" wide strip units that I had stitched earlier.  These will go into the making of another 2017 UFO one by Bonnie Hunter called Kiss in the Corner.  It will be the second project using this fun design.  When I made the original project by accident twice as many Shoo Fly blocks were made.  With Kissin' Korner 2 only the sashing that includes the "kiss" and the setting triangles need stitching.  It should go together real quick.

March 2017 UFO
I had a finish in Kourageous this week.  Thankful I get to change the USED stats this week.  For all the work put into the project, not to mention the many years from start to finish, not much fabric was used.  Suppose it's the little pieces as the project finished at 39" x 39".  Happy that I didn't have to purchase all the variety these fabrics consisted of at one time!

Used this week:  4.5 yards
Used YTD: 42.25 yards
Purchased this week:  0 yards
Purchased YTD:  19.5 yards
Net used in 2017:  22.75 yards

More quilters using up their stash this past week.  Enjoy the quilting through the links at Patchwork Times.

UFO Completion, March 24, 2017

Kourageous
March 2017 UFO
39" x 39"
2,293 pieces
I am so excited with this finish.  It has been many years in the designing.  Before that, many years in my bucket list.  Again it became many years in the designing.  This project was started back in 2009 when I thought how cool it would be to make exotic flowers out of animal skin theme fabrics.  Then the hunt started for both fabrics and foundation pieced patterns.  Two designers came up with the flower patterns and countless quilt shops had the fabrics.  In 2011 I made the making of the flowers a UFO project.  One flower was made each month of the year.  Challenge met!

From there it sat for how to arrange the blocks into a setting.  My friend Shelly came up with the setting block idea.  It was ready for my 2017 UFO project list.  This month it was called to complete...Kourageous was finally going to be a reality.  Fabric choice for the setting blocks and border #2 were a big consideration because I wanted to keep the flowers the focus.  After all when each block had an average of 100 pieces emphasis to them was foremost.  As Janet O commented the setting blocks have a glow to them...  Perfect I accomplished my idea =^.^=

The flower, designer, 2011 UFO month, and how many pieces.

Lily by Linda Causee, UFO #6 January, 146 pieces
Cranesbill by Claudia Hasenbach, UFO #10 February, 82 pieces
Bellflower by Claudia Hasenbach, UFO #1 March, 81 pieces
Meadow Clary by Claudia Hasenbach, UFO #4 April, 99 pieces
Lily of the Valley by Linda Causee, UFO #9 May, 150 pieces
Larkspur by Linda Causee, UFO #8 June, 188 pieces
Flax by Claudia Hasenbach, UFO #2 July, 74 pieces
Iris by Linda Causee, UFO #7 August, 169 pieces
Pansy by Linda Causee, UFO #11 September, 232 pieces
Meadow Buttercup by Claudia Hasenbach, UFO #5 October, 89 pieces
Heartsease by Claudia Hasenbach, UFO #3 November, 61 pieces
Violets by Linda Causee, UFO #12 December, 169 pieces

The setting block is Wild Goose Chase and it has 57 pieces.  It sure was delightful to have the last three borders be solid pieces!  I have enough of the black animal theme background to use for the binding or maybe it will be just a solid black.  It is off for quilting tomorrow.  Kerry will come up with something grand I am positive.

I'm looking for opinions on the borders for Kourageous...

This is the solid piece 2nd border.  What you see are the unfinished measurements.  It would be skinnier when sewn together.  The finished size will make it closer to the measurement of the finished units in the setting blocks.

This border option would finish:
Border 1 = 1.5"
Border 2 = .75"
Border 3 = 2"

The one below is the pieced HST 2nd border.  Again you see unfinished measurements.  The HSTs would finish at 1.5" that is the same size as the corner HSTs in the setting blocks.  I would make these units similar in color as the few I've sewn together.  The white three are really a very pale green (the lighting not so good).

This border option would finish:
Border 1 = 1.5"
Border 2 = 1.5"
Border 3 = 2"

I think once the HSTs are seen at the finished size they will look very different.  Can you picture them being the same size as the setting blocks HST corners?  I could also change the orientation of the HSTs with the black towards the center.  Didn't think of this when taking the photos urgh!

So what do you think...

Kourageous
2017 March UFO
The setting blocks are finished...  Loving this project.  The blocks each measure 6" finished.  I will be calculating the pieces it took to put this project together you can bet on it.

These are just a couple of close ups.  Next up deciding on a border.  My friend suggested the one below.  I tried to look at it with the fabrics "not cut".  The spacing isn't exactly correct, but a good idea can be realized.

I'd like to try something a bit more pieced.  So I went to a Bloc Loc Border Book picked up at Road to California Quilt Show this past January.  I really like Rocket to the Moon.  It is the top quilt layout that has me excited.  I did a couple of blocks to see how it might look.  More would need to be sewn before I can tell.  I am thinking at the moment that the scale is off.  Opinions?

Of course there is always just a single green border, but this just isn't my style =^.^=
The design wall is still a design wall...right?  See other projects through the links at Patchwork Times.

Kourageous
2017 March UFO
I started off my day with six setting blocks complete.  I have been admiring how Kourageous is looking while stitching the last seven blocks.

No fabric either in our out this week.  Lots of moving stash under my needle though.  Looking forward to the possibility next week in an update under the USED stat.

I learned that Kozy Korners has finished quilting...  One to get from Kerry's Quilting and three to add to the queue.

Used this week:  0 yards
Used YTD: 37.75 yards
Purchased this week:  0 yards
Purchased YTD:  19.5 yards
Net used in 2017:  18.25 yards

Kastaway
January 2017 UFO
By golly I think I have my January UFO finished!  It took all day Sunday with mono filament thread and stabilizer, but the deed is done.  I will go over it tonight to make sure I caught everything just to be certain.  I am catching up...  You will have to enjoy the back as I have been doing.
Looks like a skeleton image.  Too funny!

So now on to March UFO.  These are all the throwaways from just one of the setting blocks.  I'm having a debate on the greens to use.  I want the flowers to be what strikes; so I am hoping to down play the setting blocks.
I am leaning towards the darker greens.  I think the tones being cooler offer the pop I'm looking for.  Maybe I need to make a bright green one just to get more visual.

March 2017 UFO
I have been moving the one block around between the flowers that have all the greens. One block is complete...tell me what you think please.

Kourageous
March 2017 UFO
March brings another UFO needing my attention.  As long as it has taken to incubate, a friend of mine helped me with a sashing design to pull all of these wild unusual flowers together.  I made the flowers one each month as a UFO project in 2011.  Look real close at these flowers.  They are constructed with animal theme prints.  I hunted around for wildish flowers designs too.  The bright greens in the stems and leaves were also calculated.  My sashing will have bright greens and the black/brown background.  I am excited and anxious to see this project come together.
Kastaway
January 2017 UFO
I will, truly I will, get back to Kastaway this month.  I have all of what is needed, as I have been telling myself recently.  Time to let the hot air out for this cute kitty to start her adventure.

Happy Wednesday!

Besides working on the Christmas dinner menu for seven (possibly more) family members; I have been considering my 2017 UFO projects.  It is true that the last 2016 UFO, Kozy Korners, is yet to be started :(!  I have identified eight projects so far and all of them are true UFOs.  The remaining four will be starting from a pattern.  I did purchase a few new designs as well as couple gifted during the year that will end up being #9, #10, #11, and #12 =^.^=

Design Wall Monday, February 29, 2016

Today is truly a Design Wall Monday!  My wall is full of Kaffe Kisses...  I have yet to decide on an arrangement but all the units are sewn.  The next step is deciding on the arrangement then continuing with the sewing.  There is still trimming involved too.

I found the tool you see excellent for lining up the edges for the curve seams of Step 9 in the process.

As mentioned yesterday here is where I am with the many "in work" projects that grace my sewing room.  Are you ready?
Kourageous
Patchwork of the Crosses

Feel free to help me with a few "K" names...  Kourageous is the dusty one with Quilt Square Quilt Along right behind.  Patchwork of the Crosses will probably be last to finish.  All the rest are fairly new with another new one starting on Tuesday.  March UFO is soon to be named in 52Quilts lottery.  See more great projects today through the links at Patchwork Times.  Happy Leap Year Day =^.^=
