2014 At A Glance, December 31, 2014

Projects coming out of my sewing room this year numbered 25.  Kerry's Quilting spent lots of time dwindling down my quilting queue throughout the year.  There are a few in deep sleep that will find their way quilted during the first few months of the coming year.

Continuing the trend of using the fabric I have, nearly 250 yards of cotton have been sewn into some wonderful quilts.  Being the scrappy quilter that I am, most of my projects can be made with my fabric stash...it is the backs that get me buying!  Not that that's the only reason to purchase fabric =^.^=  Another year finished with UFO challenges at www.52quilts.com.  I over committed myself with one project getting done in a month.  Koncentric Konnection was a bit more like two months and a day to complete which meant I missed the November parade.  Okay, I'll have two for December's parade.  Check it out on New Year's Day.

You can see my 12 HERE, all of them done!  This year marked the second year where all my projects were from designs collected over the years and finally setting a date to make them.  It is funny seeing how much my tastes have changed.  Some of these designs were added to my "want to make" list several years ago.  My list for 2015 is already created and it's turning out to be a year of Bonnie Hunter. Some newer designs as well as from that "want to make" list.  Take a glimpse at next year's projects HERE.

Workshops this year had me making all kinds of projects with several different techniques.  Two are part of my 2015 projects for next year, one was gifted, and one is in line for quilting.

The San Diego Humane Society and several other charities received quilt donations.  There is always a reason to make a quilt!

Part 5 of Bonnie Hunter's 2014 Winter Mystery is where I am today with Kadabra!  I've managed to catch up with the all the parts over the weekend.  The next and might be final Part 6 is scheduled for release on Friday.  I'm betting she gives it to us a bit earlier...

Eight quilts were displayed at the San Diego Quilt Show and four were entered at the 2015 Road to California Quilter's Conference and Showcase.  Once more I am honored to be accepted to the jurried show that takes place in January with Kookaburra.  Your well wishes had me achieve a 2nd place win in its category with Kartwheels...keep up the well wishes for the next 30 days with Kookaburra.

Kadabra, Part 1 through 5
All caught up with Kadabra.  I'm ready for Part 6.  Will this be the last Part?

Now what will I do with sewing until Friday...  Perhaps I'll pull out Kurry.  I had hoped to have this Judy Neimeyer project done in 2014.  It is evident that won't happen, but a start is possible for sure.

I have linked up with Bonnie Hunter Mystery Part 5 at Quiltville today and as you have come to know there are lots of project to be seen through the links at Judy Laquidara's Patchwork Times.

I'll be posting my Year End on Wednesday.  I hope you have a chance to read about all the great projects that were part of my 2014.  There are lots more coming in 2015.  Let me be one of the first to wish you a Happy New Year!

Sunday Stash Report, December 28, 2014

A quilty gift from Janet at RogueQuilter.com.  Isn't it adorable?  Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.  I just love it.
I have been making loads of progress catching up with Bonnie's mystery, my Kadabra =^.^=  Part 1 is above and complete.  Part 2 below is in process.  I have only to put the pink triangle on about two thirds of the pieces before I begin sewing two together to come up with the double diamond unit.
Part 3 below is complete.  I thought I was done at one point only to count and realize there were twenty more to assemble.
Part 4 below is pretty far along too.  You can see the broken dish units need only to be assembled.
Part 5 hasn't yet been cut but as Bonnie says it's an easy week!  I think I just may be up-to-date at the conclusion of this day.

Nothing to change my stats this last report for the year.  I'm pretty happy how it has ended up and look forward to continuing.  Judy says it's on for her...a clean report will start on January 4, 2015.

Just a few days left until Christmas is here.  I thought I'd share with you a game that you might enjoy...not to mention family and friends who my come to visit.  I hope you can see it well enough.  Each picture (there are 24) depicts a Holiday Tune.  See if you can figure them out.  I'll have answers for you tomorrow!
Here I am with Part 4 of Bonnie Hunter's Winter Mystery.  It was nice having those pink/turquoise HSTs already done!  I don't have all the pieces of each of the Parts done yet, but everything is cut.  I have three days to work this week before my Holiday time off begins.  There will be sewing tonight!  I'm linking in to Bonnie Hunter's Link Up today and Judy Laquidara's Design Wall Monday...  See what others are up to!

Krossings
47" x 47"
I have a finish this week.  This is looking like it might be the last for 2014...and it is a good thing it is my December UFO #11 with Aunt Marti of 52quilts.com.  The pattern is by Linda Ballard called Around the Block.  It was done as Mystery 1 in January 2010 at Road to California Quilter's Showcase.  I changed this project adding the modified 9-patch that is in the rest of the quilt to the corners of the border.  I don't like the look of a piece solid border.  I hadn't noticed until after I added the photo to this post that my corner stones end the cobblestone design that flows through the quilt top.  I'm deciding if I like this or not.  Would you change them to be continuous with the quilt top?  It would be an easy fix.

I'll be spending the rest of the year on Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Grand Illusion.  Today I'm cutting Part 4.  I stayed out of the fabric stores this week so a good report!

Moving right along...  At the top are the first three parts of this mystery.  I don't mind the trimming; actually I prefer it.  The HSTs and the hour glass units were designed to be oversized and cut down.  At the bottom (with the purple) are the units for the next part of Krossings.  I have one sewn together; it is a modified nine patch.
I'm excited with how everything is coming together.  I'll have more tomorrow.  Last work day of the week and a dentist appointment has it being a shortened day.  Nothing more than a cleaning...

Have a wonderful Thursday!

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Monday at lunchtime I started cutting the pieces of my December UFO.  Nothing like getting started on a new project mid-month of the designated month its due =^.^=  My goodness I'm not sure I've recovered from the tardiness of Koncentric Konnection.

#11 is the project for December.  For me it is a pattern by Linda Ballard called Around The Block.  It was the Lakeside Mystery for the first night at 2010 Road to California Quilter's Conference and Showcase.  Kerry and I took the second night's mystery and had an opportunity to purchase the first night's pattern...so we did!  Linda's patterns can be found HERE.  My project's using all stash.  Not sure I'll have enough to piece a back together, but we'll see.

Tuesday evening I found a little bit of time for some sewing.  I finished enough to have something for my lunchtime sewing on Wednesday.
Krossings
I am hoping this project goes together as easily as it appears that it will.  I've had some question about the cutting instructions, but they will more than likely be resolved with a little more reading of the instructions.  I've made a few of her designs and the patterns are usually very clear.

Hope that your HUMP Day is going the way you'd like it to.  The rest of the week is all down hill from here!

Kadabra, Part 1
I'm certain you'll see many today with Bonnie Hunter's 2014 Winter Mystery in full swing.  I spent most of today cutting the parts.  I do have a little of each of them done.  There's lots more that I need to sew to be caught up.  I thought this weekend would be that time...
Kadabra, Part 2
I'm very pleased with the way the colors are coming together.  Especially the green in Part 3.

Sunday Stash Report, December 14, 2014

I've been sewing on Bonnie Hunter's 2014 Winter Mystery.  Saturday I continued making the broken dish units of Part 1.  I still have more to assemble, but made a pretty significant dent in the 280.

I have a little bit of an add this week.  I picked up some lights for Bonnie; as it turns out she can't use them for the project she's working on.  I didn't mind keeping them so that is what I did.  The pink will have a place in the Mystery...

I have just a few over a quarter of the requirement complete.  I'm anxious to get to some sewing this week.  I have been cooking for pot lucks, running errands, spending time on the computer, and a not to be missed lecture and trunk show with Judy Neimeyer.  Hmm...  This mystery is calling my name!

I am so happy tomorrow is Friday!  =^.^=

Design Wall Monday, December 8, 2014

Yesterday I packed up everyones Midnight Flight Swap blocks.  I'll have them enroute to their owners early this week.  This swap was designed to give a head start on Bonnie Hunter's Midnight Flight design from her newest book More Adventures with Leaders and Enders.  My project (Kamikaze) will be started soon, but probably not until 2015.

Until I ran into a question for Janet the BOM coordinator I was working on this all too cute Santa block.  I did have one attempt from Janet to answer me, but she answered questions regarding the Candle block :(!  I am hopeful to hear back from Janet a second time.  Tonight will be the last opportunity or I'll just guess...  I do want to win these cute blocks.

The rest of Sunday I spent doing household chores that included putting up some holiday decorations and making a cranberry jello salad for a work party today.  I have a real good White Elephant gift for the exchange.

On Saturday I sent Kookaburra off to Road to California.  I'm very happy to have made it into the show and hopefully will be as lucky as I was last year (or luckier) with Kartwheels.

Tomorrow I will attend Judy Neimeyer's lecture and trunk show at Cozy Quilt Shop at their new location.  I'm so looking forward to meeting her.  She is one of my favorite designers.  After I make Briar Patch (Kurry) I hope to make Osprey's Nest (yet to be named).  I have three of her designs to share if there is the opportunity (KollaborationKartwheels, and Krossfire).
Kurry
Koncentric Konnection
I'm also taking with me two other quilts that are from Cozy Quilt Shop affiliated designers, Beauty 'n Check (Konentric Konnection) by Janice Ellertson and Jodel Yover and Building Blocks (Konstituent) by Sharyn Craig.  I sure hope Janice, Jodel, and Sharyn are there too.

All set for a busy sewing week with Bonnie Hunter's Clues 1 and 2.  I hope you have something fun planned this week too...  See more fun projects going on around the globe through the links at Judy's Patchwork Times.  =^.^=

Sunday Stash Report, December 7, 2014

Here is my Midnight Flight Swap coming together and finally it all packaged up.  Today I'm sorting the swap out between the 14 who participated.  Our group shrunk by two this time.  Everyone will end up with a little more from the remaining swappers as a result.  There is still much variety for whatever project you decide to make with them.  I plan on making the Midnight Flight design by Bonnie Hunter with mine.  I already have a name chosen...how about Kamikaze?  This suggestion came to be from a blog follower a few weeks back.  Love it!

This is my last UFO project for 2014.  #11, Krossings as named by my sister.  I'll be using the light print for the background the gray for the green in the block design and the purple for the cobblestones.  Considering a pink for the inner border; we will see how that pans out.  These fabrics are from my stash, remnants from previous projects.  My project will only be four blocks since that is all that this stash can handle.  More on this project as it progresses this month.
I have been paper piecing this cute block of the month for Sunshine Quilt Guild.  I added the belt buckle and plan to include a small button for the pompom that needs to be part of Santa's hat.  It is due for the Tuesday meeting.
Finally, Clue 2 of Bonnie Hunter's 2014 Winter Mystery Grand Illusion is in progress.  I got lots of practice making this unit for the Midnight Flight Swap so making another 200 units will be a cinch!

Nothing to change my stats this week.  See how others are performing through Patchwork Times.  Remembering those that lost their lives protecting us in the events of Pearl Harbor today.

These are from Mary.  Mary had a move from San Diego to Georgia right in the middle of the swap.  She had to start a second set of blocks since the first part of her swap went missing.  They look great Mary.

I'll be getting them out to everyone either Monday or Tuesday.  Happy Saturday!

Friday, December 5, 2014

I have a complete finish to show today.  Konstituent was a fun project by Sharyn Craig called Building Blocks.  It was a BOM that was run out of Cozy's Quilt Shop.  The border design is by Judy Laquidara from her 60 Pieced Borders book.  If you look real close you may be able to see the alphabet quilting stitch.  There are a lot of fabrics with printed words so the quilting design fit perfectly.  You can see all my finished projects on my website.

I have taken apart the three Clue 1 Broken Dishes blocks that were assembled incorrectly.  Made a bunch more HSTs to complete the requirement for this part of the 2014 Winter Mystery Grand Illusion...Clue 2 pattern has been printed and I'm ready to sew.

Happy Friday!

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

I've started Clue 1 of Bonnie Hunter's 2014 Winter Mystery Grand Illusion.  I haven't gotten to far yet, but plan to make a lot of progress in the next two days.  Above are all my pieces laid out for sewing.  I didn't count my HSTs yet although I am pretty certain I have quite a few more to make.
Did you take the time to twist the centers?  Doing so sure helps reduce the bulk.  There will be lots more sewing now that Koncentric Konnection is complete!
Have fun in your sewing room!

Design Wall Monday, December 1, 2014

I completed the binding on Koliding Krosses.  This project was entirely from my stash.  I sure am happy when that can happen.  I'm half way around Konstituent and will share it when finished.

I didn't get to any part of the sewing on Bonnie Hunter's Grand Illusion Winter Mystery.  I've been focused on finishing Koncentric Konnection.  I have taken time to pull fabrics for my project, Kadabra.  I hope to be sewing the Clue 1 early this week.  I'll be aiming to hook up on Bonnie's blog before the cutoff on Thursday.  Friday and Clue 2 will come all too soon.

This week I plan to have Kookaburra in the mail.  I had it appraised with Julia Zgliniec late last week.  It is always a good thing to have your quilt appraised if it is being sent off to a show.  All participants need to have their entries into the committee's hands between December 1st and 15th.  I like to send early to avoid the Christmas mailings.

Lot's of sewing as is my usual is on tap for this week.  I hope that you are enjoying time in your sewing room.  Prayers are with Judy's Boots today.

Sunday Stash Report, November 30, 2014

I had hoped to claim yardage today for Koncentric Konnection, but alas that won't happen until next report.  I have only to assemble the blocks to be finished.  It isn't looking good to have it done in time for the November UFO Parade with Aunt Marti of www.52Quilts.com.  I'm still sewing today, but the time available is running out.
Check back tomorrow for the finish.  Please remind me that these types of quilts take more than a month to finish from the beginning...
Collette (above) and Jennifer turned in their Midnight Flight Swap units on Saturday.  I can't say enough about how wonderful the variety has come to be.  I will be sorting out the swap a little later this week.  I hope to have them on their way back to participants later this week.

Here's what I'm working on today...

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Debbie's Units
I received more swap blocks in the last couple of days.  Everyone has been great getting them to me on time.  A few still need to arrive...you know who you are!
Janice, Joan, and Theresa's Units
I'm ironing my finished units tonight.  There was a lot of work in this swap!  Anxious to put together my Kamikaze from Bonnie Hunter's wonderful design Midnight Flight.

Speaking of Bonnie Hunter...are you ready for Friday's 2014 Winter Mystery - Grand Illusion?  I've yet to pull my pinks, but think my stash can handle the fabric requirements.

Tomorrow will see lots of work on my Pfaff with Koncentric Kommotion!  Happy Thanksgiving to You and Your Families.
