2024 Year At A Glance, January 4, 2024

Projects in 2024 were 34 with 11 in the quilting queue at this moment.  As always I do my best to have something in the queue for quilting.  I just finished the stitchery on two projects and am anxious to find another one to work on in the evenings.  I do have a great many to choose from; one will surely quench my itch.  I have five projects in the stitching process.  Two are the Bonnie Hunter Winter Mysteries, Indigo Way and Old Town (Starowka), and one from the 2024 Jolly Box, Snowman Society.  The other two are the sashing that brings the stitchery blocks together into a quilt.

I started counting my stash movement in July 2010 and still continue to capture my usage and purchases to this day.  I find this exciting each week and encouraged to use fabric and not purchase too much.  This year I moved 269 yards of material around in the sewing room.  I purchased 148 to get projects finished with only a few purchases of new projects.  All said and done, the net used was 121 yards.  Since retiring in July, I have been really busy with sewing by increasing my net used nearly one and a half times that of 2023.  Yes indeed I have been sewing!

I am working hard to catch up on my UFOs from previous years.  A list for 2025 has been started and you will see it soon.  I am also stitching projects that have not made it to a UFO list ever.  Can you imagine ever having no UFOs?

I do attend more sewing events now that I am retired.  Love having a free schedule to do things quilty.

My list of finishes in 2024 (not all are pictured):

2023 Year At A Glance, January 3, 2024

Projects in 2023 were 21 with one in the quilting queue.  I do my best to have something in that queue to give me the binding that I like so much to do.  I have found stamped cross stitch gives me that hand sewing vibe.  I finished a project started by my Mom, Sunbonnet Babies and was happy to find more similar projects that are considered (as I chuckle) “vintage” to keep me busy.

Korbett

Currently, I’m working on a very cute duck stamped cross stitch project.  Twelve 9” blocks all adorable cartoon style ducks doing things like dancing or reading a book.

Duck on Swing

Continuing the trend of using the fabric I have in my stash, 182 yards of cotton moved under my needle.  Comparing with 2022 not so good with using up the stash :(

Used YTD: 182 yards (2022, 184.5 yards)
Purchased YTD:  86.5 (2022, 62.75 yards)
Net used in 2023: 95.5 yards (2022, 121.75 yards)

The biggest project that took me months to sew was Chilhowie.  My version was made to order for a wedding gift.  A California King nearly double the size of the original project.

Although my UFO goal setting takes place each year I’m finding them hard to finish.  I suppose my goals are too lofty!  I still have UFOs to finish from 2021, 2022, and yes 2023 too.  I have a list for 2024…we shall see if that comes to fruition.  Hey we must set goals right?

My list of finishes in 2023:

I am collecting the recipe for Bonnie Hunter’s 2023 Winter Mystery called Indigo Way.  This mystery is one of my 2024 UFOs, but first I’m working off my early UFOs before starting. You can see where I am with my UFOs by year at a tab at the top of my blog home page.  Yes still the crazy names that start with "K".  Once again I close this year hoping there are more great finishes in 2024.  Happy New Year!

2022 Year At A Glance, January 1, 2023

Projects in 2022 were 29 with three in the quilting queue.  185 yards of cotton moved under my needle.  Yes still the crazy names that start with "K".  How is Katcher and Krafter for two Halloween themed quilts?

Krafter

I do like goal setting, but honestly I am doing terrible in keeping up.  2021 UFOs and now 2022 UFOs did not finish.  I do not like to move these to the next year to be considered a new UFO, but really I can not keep adding to the feeling that I will never get all of these done.  It can happen I suppose...maybe I will catch up when I retire in a few years.  Regardless, 2023 UFO Goals are at a tab at the top of my blog home page.

I did not attend Road to California Quilters' Conference and Showcase in Ontario, CA this year.  I was disappointed on the workshop offerings although I know the show quilts were awesome.  I do miss this show and hope to get back to attending.  It is just a short distance away.  Perhaps there is a special project that will be submitted for a chance to show at one of the conferences in the future...anything is possible.

Even though I did not make my UFO goals, a different goal was met.  Bound and determined to use my scrap strips in various sizes happened.  A bunch of donation quilts were made some going to charities not supported by me before.  It felt good to make someone, somewhere, happy with a warm quilt.  I also helped Mom lessen her scraps with numerous projects cut up and made into kits for her to sew and donate to charities around her area.

In March I was invited to attend the first Yuma, AZ retreat.  I put most of my sewing time into making Katching Kluckers.  I needed a Thanksgiving themed quilt; this one perfect.  You will need to see the label sometime.

In June I was invited to attend one of the best birthday parties ever.  A quilting sister celebrated by throwing a party that was entirely quilting related!  She cut up her stash and had us sewing quilts of our own choice to take with us (or do as we wished).  I may have to borrow her idea for one of my own celebrations.

The BOM I won in October 2021 finished early in the year that I have called KacklingKarre, also a BOM win in March finished in May.  Apparently I win more than I thought because I also won the BOM in December which will be part of my 2023 UFOs to finish.

I made more projects that were not on my 2022 UFO List, which is in part why many remain unfinished.  Other than the projects I have already shared above here are the other finishes that took place.  You can see them through the links if you choose or ask if you want to see one that I have not shared a place for you to see it =^.^=

This first day of 2023 has me at Part 6 of Bonnie Hunter's Winter Mystery, Chilhowie, with the suggestion that there is only one more part to go.  I hope to use this project as a commissioned wedding gift.  As you have heard before I can not resist a Bonnie Hunter Mystery!

As always I look forward to your help in naming my projects with the must "K"!  I close this year hoping there are more great finishes in 2023.  Happy New Year!

2021 At A Glance, January 1, 2022

Projects in 2021.  Once again we have all experienced a year of COVID.  How many masks have you made to get through this pandemic that never seems to go away.  I started back to work full time at our campus in October.  It is not so fun getting up early n the morning, but I'd rather be in the office.

I completed 20 projects this year; which is down quite a bit from last year.  206 yards of cotton moved under my needle with a new Pfaff Performance Icon.  As you know I come up with some crazy names for my projects with help from family and friends.  Kreepy Kompanions, Kai, Koyo, and Kofi are just a few from 2021.

Kofi

I fell short in finishing my 2021 UFOs.  Four remain to complete along with the new 12 that make up the 2022 UFO List.  You can view it now on my blog (look for the tab at the top of the home page).  The 2019 UFO finished that I am calling Komplex Kontents.  I love it!

Komplex Kontents

I participated in my guild's charity projects benefiting the YMCA's Battered Womens Program supporting Becky's House and each of the monthly BOMs.  I even won in October with the cute Punkin' Patch block designed by Bonnie Hunter.  I made more projects that were not on my 2021 UFO List, which is in part why four remain unfinished.  Other than the projects I have already shared above here are the other finishes that took place.  You can see them through the links if you choose =^.^=

Used YTD: 209.25 yards (2020, 160 yards)
Purchased YTD: 183.25 yards (2020, 23.75 yards)
Net used in 2021: 25.5 yards (2020, 132.5 yards)

This first day of 2022 has me at Part 3 of Bonnie Hunter's 2021 Mystery, Rhododendron Trail and she has already released through Part 6.  I will be calling this one Kyushu where a particular orange rhododendron flower can be found.  I changed out the suggested pink for orange.  As you have heard before I can't resist a Bonnie Hunter Mystery!

As always I look forward to your help in naming my projects with the must "K"!  I close this year hoping there are more great finishes in 2022.  Happy New Year!

2020 At A Glance, January 1, 2021

Well 2020 has been quite the year.  Most found time to get in a whole lot of quilting.  I continued to work from home starting mid-March.  Me, an essential worker, went in to the  office once a week, but fortunately I was able to work from home the rest of the time.  It was a bit rocky from home, but eventually all things IT worked out and allowed me to smoothly work from my home office.  Needless to say not much extra time in the sewing room =^.^=

In this crazy year of stay-at-home directives from California I was able to complete 37 projects; which is up from four in 2019.  164 yards of cotton moved through my Pfaff Performance 5.0.  Yet another year of crazy "K" names. KavortKandlesKopernikus, Kweens, Kandi, Kolor Katchers, Koils, Klarchen, Kollective Kolors, and Karefree were names of my 2020 UFOs plus others you will see below.  Thanks to Google searches and my Sister for coming up with such fitting names.

Kollective Kolors

I was able to complete four of the 2019 UFOs along with all of the 2020 UFOs slated for completion.  Darn that I couldn't finish the last 2019 UFO that is Fit to Frame (still needs a "K" name).  My 2021 list is set and you can view it now on my blog (look for the tab at the top of the home page).  There are many wool projects in my UFO list this year.  Hopefully I can find time to work them.  Fit to Frame did get attention in 2020, just not enough to finish.

I participated in my guild's, Sunshine Quilt Guild, UFO Challenge too.  I made a charity quilt benefiting the YMCA's Battered Womens Program supporting Becky's House during the seven months of the membership year.  I also finished several of my Mom's UFOs and a couple of my orphan blocks projects that supported the same program.  Other than the 2020 UFOs listed above here's the other finishes that took place.  You can see them through the links if choose =^.^=

This first day of 2021 has me at Part 6 of Bonnie Hunter's 2020 Mystery, Grassy Creek.  My project will be called Krooked Kreek...get the "K" change up?  I can't resist a Bonnie Hunter Mystery =^.^=.  Appalachian Autumn and Winter Blues are already in my want to make queue!

As always I look forward to your help in naming my projects with the must "K"!  I close this year hoping there are more great finishes in 2021.  Happy New Year!
