I've been busy with family this weekend, which puts me behind on blog posts!  So let's catch up a bit.  My August UFO #7 is Klappers which was done early this month but only posted the link to Patchwork Times just today.

My September UFO #11 is Klunky Korners which I'm excited about since it is already done!  Klunky Korners was done as a swap that I coordinated earlier this year.  It is also an entry in the San Diego Quilt Show which is this September 13-15.

HERE are my 2012 UFO Challenges that will give you information on both of these projects.

I've not been able to sew on Kaktus since last Sunday.  I have five rows yet to sew to the top before the outer borders can be put on.  The flying geese foundations are ready; just need time in the sewing room.  While I've been visiting my family my Pfaff is being serviced.  It should be ready for me to pick up when I get home.

Hope you have a wonderful Labor Day.  If you find you have time see other projects from quilters around the globe at Patchwork Times.

We got done with Mom's Chunky Churndashes top then went to work right away on the pieced back.  All done with both!  YIPPEE!  One project completed and ready for quilting.  There were four of each churndash and hour glass blocks left so of course they went to the back :)!

Another Crabapple Swap turned in.  This one is from Karen.  Everyone is doing a fabulous job this time grouping and identifying their offering.  It will make it so much easier to sort out for everyone when the time comes.

I spent the morning finishing the binding on Kordova Klosure (in my PJs =^.^=).  I'll be getting this HUGE quilt on the rack shortly for photographing for my post tomorrow.  It finished 100" x 108".  Like I said HUGE!

Next up is Mom's Round Robin.  She is right now sewing parts and pieces together.  See if I did okay figuring out the math...triangles can be a challenge....

Another swapper has turned in 9-patches.  Each and every turn in brings the number closer.  I suspect that Monday might bring me more when I go to Canyon Quilt Guild's Monthly meeting.  If not the postal service will be delivering lots more over the next two weeks.  I'm still not done with mine :(!
Betty
Mom and I have been real busy getting all of her projects done that we set out to accomplish while she's here.  In between I've been busy binding Kamile and Kordova Klosure.  I was asked to give a lecture and trunk show at Canyon Quilt Guild's Monthly meeting this month as part of what is being called "Member Spotlight".  My presentation will focus on Traditional Quilting.  Wendy Knight will also present with a focus on Art Quilting.  Now let's see how many quilts can fit into two large suitcases!

Last night's project was finishing Mom's Chunky Churndashes.  She's busy today putting on the borders.  She had several churndash blocks left so four will be used for the corner stones along with a two pieced border.  The rest of the churndash blocks will be arranged on the back.  Next to work on are hot air balloon blocks from a swap she participated in online a couple of years back.  She brought these last year but we ran out of time.  Time is running out again, but this one is going to get assembled...it won't go back to Maryland in pieces!  Then there's the round robin to pull fabric for...purples? greens? definitely a bit of black.  Strings?  Anxious to see how this one comes together.

I should find time to finish the remaining 9-patches for my Crabapple swap while Mom's busy stitching.  Then there's my Quilt Square Quilt Along block to finish before the end of the month.  Enjoy your sewing projects.

There's going to be some serious sewing going on in Lakeside this weekend.  Nine of us are attending our annual quilt retreat.  All kinds of things are going to be assembled...perhaps even finished.  Nothing like having four days and three nights to do whatever and whenever you want to do it (well maybe more days and nights)!

In previous years we've had some rather weird happenings around this ordinarily quiet area.  We all joked that the bad guys would be crazy to try to mess with us!  We'll be missing several this year that have been there before.  This group changes a bit from year to year, but usually everyone returns eventually.

These are the projects that I've got planned to work on...

Knickels

Crabapple Swap Blocks

26th Fur Ball Fundraiser for the San Diego Humane Society

Sunshine Quilt Guilds Annual Challenge

June UFO

Quilt Square Quilt Along Block

These are the projects that Mom has planned to work on...

Crabapple Swap Blocks

May's Cozy Strip Club

2 Bow Tucks Purses

Hot Air Balloon Block Swap

Chunky Churndashes Block Swap

Wonder what the list is like for everyone else?  Wonder who will be the overachiever this year?

Got done with this block with hours in May 2012 to spare!  It's part of the Quilt Squares Quilt Along that I'm participating in through 2012 with Jo's Country Junction.  Lori Smith is the designer of all the blocks that will be made in her series patterns Quilt Squares #1 through #6.  We'll be using Quilt Squares #1, #4, and #6.  Four blocks will be selected in each of the patterns by Jo for us to make in that month.  This Trip Around The World block is the first of Quilt Squares #4.

Here's my collection so far.  Anxious to see which one is selected for June!  If you want to see more of these check them out at Jo's Country Junction with the button on the right.

Klunky Korners is finished (Bonnie Hunter Chunky Churndashes).  I took two different photos for you to see all of it.  I'm one up on my 2012 UFO Challenge with Patchwork Times.  I'm certain to need some extra time in the month that this project is selected for something else.  I'm working to stay ahead!

Next it's on to finishing Knickels (Path Speth Dawn to Dusk).  Along with finishing the binding, sleeve and label on Katnip Krazy (Buggy Barn Crazy Cats).  I'm soon to get Kamile (Quiltmaker Perennial Petals) back from Kerry's Quilting which will also need finishing touches.  So as May 2012 closes I'm all up to date.  June will bring another Quilt Square and another UFO along with Sunshine Quilt Guilds Challenge Block and BOM plus a bunch of small 9-Patches for a Crabapple Block Swap (Bonnie Hunter).

TGIF!

Sunday Stash Report, April 22, 2012

I'm continuing to work on my April UFO.  I have just a bunch of components so I didn't bother with a photo for this post.  I do have a little eye candy to share...this is Joan's Chunky Churndashes quilt.  She used green and brown with a contrasting corner stone in the inner border.  Her hour glasses look to be a brown on the gold side.  Nice work Joan!

My background fabric arrived and you know I've been steady working on Kommodore.  It came from Keepsake Quilting and raises my purchases for just about a week.  What I don't end up using in the quilt's top will be put to use on the back.  Anxious for this one to be done.  Here's my report:

Used this week: 0 yards
Used YTD: 106.5 yards
Purchased this week: 4 yards
Purchased YTD: 32.25 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2012: 74.25 yards

Another Chunky Churndashes Finish!  This one is Kerry's.

Our Churndashes Block Swap started in November 2011 and finished in February 2012.  Each and every quilt has turned out different.  So far the hour glass block has been in purple, blue, red, and now green.  There are still several others to finish...wonder what's next?

If you want to see the ones before search on the label Churndash Swap on the side bar.

Happy Birthday Kerry!

Sunday Stash Report, April 15, 2012

Today I've got great stash news!  I've not only finished Klunky Korners...I've also finished KerfuffleKlunky Korners is my Chunky Churndashes by Bonnie Hunter.  (She's got it free on her website www.quiltville.com).  The border is one that she suggested, but of course you can do just about anything you want.  This project was made with several others in a churndashes block swap.

Kerfuffle is my Autumn Rush by Myra Mahy.  (Available on her website www.countryfaces.com)  I started this project in a workshop with other quilters from Sunshine Quilt Guild a few weeks ago.

I set out to have both of these projects done before the backing arrived from Keepsake Quilting for my April UFO.  I beat out USPS!  I'll be working next on my Quilt Square Quilt Along Block that I'm working on with Jo's Country Junction.  More on fabric selection for the fourth of 12 blocks tomorrow.  Here's my report:

Used this week: 20.5 yards
Used YTD: 106.5 yards
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 28.25 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2012: 78.25 yards

Sunday Stash Report, April 8, 2012

Happy Easter!

It's been a productive day for my Autumn Rush project.  I have been working through the week on all the components.  Trimming and Spinning the Seam...  Took quite a bit of time, but I think its been time well spent.  I have seven more pink blocks to finish, a small inner border and then it gets a piano key border.

Unfortunately that didn't get Klunky Korners (Chunky Churndashes project) off the wall.  This means that nothing to show as used this week.

I've ordered the background fabric that I'll need for my April UFO (Indigo).  I'm hoping to get both the Autumn Rush and Klunky Korners projects finished before it arrives.

I did get two quilts back from Kerry.  Kontinuum (Connect the Dots) and Komplikated (Patches and Pinwheels) are ready for binding, sleeve and label.  The quilting is just beautiful.  I'll share how the blue thread on the deep green of Kontinuum appear to glow when I'm a little further along with the binding.

So here's my report for this beautiful day.

Used this week: 0 yards
Used YTD: 86 yards
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 28.25 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2012: 57.75 yards

Monday I got an email that Debbie A had finished her Chunky Churndashes project.  Debbie makes two of the 16 that swapped blocks to finish.  Each and every one are so different depending on the hour glass block fabrics and the two borders.  There is a red one and a green one not far behind.  You can find this project on Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville website.

Way to go Debbie!

Sunday Stash Report, April 1, 2012

Happy April...Happy April's Fools Day.  No jokes to play on you today.  I'm sure you're getting at least one or two from your family (especially the kids) and friends (the ones that always give us a chuckle).  Today the last day of the weekend and since I didn't win the Mega Million back to work tomorrow!  Darn it wish it could have been me.  My list of five and the mega number only came up with one...not even enough to win the lowest cash out of $3.00.  Oh well my congratulations go out to all the lucky ones.

Today I've got nothing to change on my stash report but I'm getting close.  Klunky Korners when finished will be 9 1/2 yards the way I'm calculating it.  Those of you who know Bonnie Hunters designs know that she doesn't always calculate yardage so I calculate in square inches rounding up a bit to capture the seams.  This is Chunky Churndashes FREE on Bonnie's Quiltville.  It was made with several others as part of a swap.  I have two borders to figure out one smaller and the other 5" or so.  Then I'll be using anything 10 1/2" square for the back.  I'll need about 81 squares.  If you are trying to use up your stash this is an excellent way.

I'm working today on two other projects as well while the washer and dryer or going.  Autumn Rush a design by Myra Mayh is keeping me very busy with HSTs.  It's got 320 of them. I've got my Bloc-Loc square up ruler getting a workout squaring up all these 2 1/2" HSTs.
Today is the day or the third block of Lori Smith's Quilt Squares #1 pattern.  The pieces are all cut and ready for sewing.  I will be introducing blue into this block and bringing in more of the green that I used in the second block.  This is the project under the needle this morning.

So here's my report and I am looking ahead for another change in numbers next week.  Happy sewing everyone.

Klunky Korners
I debated using the cheddar for the hour glass blocks and decided against it.  I really like the red print.  I think what I like most about it is the size of the print.  The pattern is closer together; not certain why it appeals to me more...maybe it is because it reads more like a solid that calms down all the churndash blocks.  Well one way or another I'm committed now.  The neutrals are all scrappy, only the red is constant throughout.  Once I've got it all together I'll be scouring my stash for a suitable border fabric.  Maybe the cheddar will come back into play?  This is a project done with several others swapping the churndash blocks.  The pattern is one of Bonnie Hunters and can be found FREE on her website.

These blocks are from two other projects I'm doing.  The two on the top are a Quilt Square Quilt Along with Jo's Country Junction.  The third block needs to be finished in March.  I'll be working on it this week.

The pink block is the only one so far in this project from a workshop I took a couple of weeks ago.  The pattern is called Autumn Rush by Myra Mahy.  I've got most of it cut out already.  Lot's of HSTs to be made.

I'm also proofing out instructions for a workshop that I'll be teaching in September.  Probably like you the list goes on and on...  What's on your Design Wall today?  Check out more through the links on Patchwork Times.

Here it is HUMP Day!  Hooray we've made it through most of the week...it's down hill from here :)!

My post today has photos of Debra's Chunky Churndashes quilt project.  I coordinated a swap with several others late last year.  The swap was the churn dash block from Bonnie Hunter's design.  (You can find it FREE on her website.)  Debra is the first to complete her project.  Debra used a purple with a small paisley design for her hour glass blocks along with a neutral.  I think the design is neat that it looks like you've accomplished an "on point" design that is assembled in rows.  How clever is Bonnie!  Great job Debra!

There are several others putting their projects together; including me.  Hopefully soon I'll have more to show.  Until next time happy sewing.

Design Wall Monday, March 12, 2012

Today I'll be working on the binding of a quilt I just got back from Kerry's Quilting.  Kindhearted Klues turned out very cute with a frogs in a green thread.  This is the first quilt I've backed with minke.  It sure is soft.  Morgan my youngest niece should love it.

Here's Kordova Klosure.  I'm making it bigger with the additional pieces you see.  I'm adding 12 finished inches all around.  I may have to find some additional reds; I should be set with the blacks.  Maybe I'll bind it in blue?  I've cut 10 1/2" squares of black and white fabrics for the back.  I've got somewhere close to what I need ready, but need to wait and measure just how many I'll actually need.

I'll be continuing through the week on Konnections to Kollinwood and Klunky Korners.  Hope you are able to get into your sewing room as much as you want to this week.  I've got a 4 day work week YIPPEE!  Enjoy the extra day light.

Sunday Stash Report, March 11, 2012

Lots of sewing going on in my sewing room.  I have several projects oh so close to completion and the elusive ability to report something used.

I've been working steadily on my 2012 March UFO, Konnections to Kollinwood.  This one is assembled in columns which is a bit different.  I have the pieced border to get started on yet.  This is a free pattern by Judy Laquidara called Road to Brownwood that can be found on her website.

I'm ready to make a decision on one of the three fabrics you see on the left.  These are my blocks from the Chunky Churndashes block swap just finished.  One of the three fabrics along with the white squares make an hour glass block.  This is a free pattern by Bonnie Hunter that can be found on her website.  I'll be calling my quilt Klunky Korners thanks to a great suggestion!

I have started the next block swap with an end of June completion.  There are 18 of us swapping 9-Patch blocks for the Bonnie Hunter pattern Crabapple.  You will be hearing more on this in coming days.

I'm also close to having Kordova Klosure done.  It's actually done up to the pattern as was released, but I'm making it a bit bigger.  I'll have pictures tomorrow.

So you can see I'm creeping ever closer to reporting a usage.  I was good not to make any purchases this week too.  The net result is two big zeros.

Used this week: 0 yards
Used YTD: 46 yards
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 22 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2012: 24 yards

Have fun sewing this week!

Saturday, March 3, 2012

I'll be heading to Rosie's Calico Cupboard this morning. I wWill be meeting up with Debra and Collette to pass off several Chunky Churndashes Swap Blocks.

I'll also be looking to purchase a purple similar to the strip of purple you see in this photo of the fabrics that will go into my 2012 March UFO with Patchwork Times.  It's a design by Judy Laquidara she calls Road to Brownwood.  I'll be calling my quilt Konnections to Kollinwood.  You see my parents live on Collinwood Road...

Another reason for meeting up with Debra is to pass along two quilts that will be shown and offered for sale at the 27th Annual Quilt Show & Boutique next weekend Sponsored by the Woman's Club of Lakeside.  It will be held at the Vetrans' Memorial Building on Lindo Lane March 9 and 10 both days from 10 AM to 4 PM.  If you have a chance to stop by Korrecting Koncealled and Koasting will be in the show.

As you can see I purchased the Flying Geese Bloc Loc ruler.  Just got it yesterday at Amidons along with a second size.  I pressed the seams out as instructed; started trimming them up on my Brooklyn Revolver to help turn the goose to the correct direction for cutting.  Today I'll spend much of the day sewing together the blocks of Part 7.  I'm looking forward to getting Kordova Klosure's top together.

I finished my March Sunshine Quilt Guilds BOM.  We were to put anything BUT bugs into bug jars.  I thought the spoons and forks were cute.

There's damage to report on my Sunday Stash Report :(

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

I've got lots to write about today.

These are the ready to deliver Chunky Churndashes Swap blocks.  Everyone will start receiving them over the next few days.  Three head east to Maryland tomorrow morning.  I'd hoped to get to Beverly's tonight, but it didn't happen.  Other arrangements will need to be made for Jeanne and Sally.  Next up is Amidon's on Friday where Sue will get hers.  Saturday brings a stop at Rosie's where Debra, Collette, and Susie will get theirs.  Then there are all the rest to find there new owners.

Judy pulled #8 for March's 2012 UFO Challenge project.  I'll be making her design Road to Brownwood.  Not sure at this time what colors mine will end up.  I very much like her use of scrappy purples, green and yellow.  Need to check the stash and get busy on this beauty.

The 2012 Cruisin' Quilters Shop Hop starts this weekend in San Diego.  I'm not sure I'll get to all 14 of the shops this year, but I'm going to give it a go!  Maybe I'll see you out there.  I'll be wearing my kwiltnkats logo T-shirt...look for me :)!

Here's my other March project.  Jo's Country Junction's Quilt Square Quilt Along.  The star design is for this month.  I'll be using similar colors to go along well with the log cabin and bear paw designs from January and February.  These blocks along with six others will come together to make a sampler at the end of 2012.

I have the blue string blocks removed of paper on Part 7 of Kordova Klosure.  Still need to pick up the flying geese Bloc Loc ruler for squaring up the 127 flying geese units.  Then it's on to assembly.  Pictures of Part 7 coming soon.

The best part to write about is that my Koala Sewing Cabinet is being delivered tomorrow!  I'm so excited.  I have the insert already and a borrowed chair (just until mine arrives)...so I'm set!  I'll be sure to show you my new set up after a bit of arranging.  Come on tomorrow!

Friday, February 24, 2012

I finished my February 2012 Quilt Square Quilt Along with Jo's Country Junction just now.  Look how cute it is.  This block introduced gold, green and black.  The green is barely visible...finishing just 1/2" x 1/2".  Okay Jo I'm ready for March.

The post person did well today, delivered are Connie's blocks.  Nice work!  Two more to go and I'll be sorting them all out for redelivery.  I should be done with the sort during the week and be able to start getting them to all the swappers next weekend.  It's going to be a hard call on what color fabric goes into my hour glass blocks other than the neutral.  Looks like the decision will be mainly on my stash!

No delivery today drat.  I did get the borrowed chair until mine arrives.  At this rate maybe the chair that's due the first or second week of March might beat the sewing cabinet!

Day for the Lakeside Retreat has been set for June 7 through 10.  I'll be working on flights for my Mom's trip out.  This has turned out to be an annual visit for my Mom.  We have so much fun being able to sew this weekend together with the girls.

Enjoy your weekend, our weather is terrific these last few days and expected to continue much the same over the the weekend.

Thursday, February 23, 2012

Today I received Sue's Chunky Churndashes Swap Blocks.  I also heard from Jeanne that she will be delivering both hers and Sally's over the weekend.  Now if only the post person would deliver Connie's I'd have them all!

I haven't received word from the local delivery company that my Koala Sewing Cabinet is in San Diego.  Still have my fingers crossed that it's delivered tomorrow...  Hope I have something wonderful to post tomorrow.
