Nothing to report as used, also nothing to report as purchased.  A good sewing week on Katnip Krazy and Kolonial.  (I'll have pictures of both these projects on my Design Wall post tomorrow.)  The photo is of Kalm all finished.  Do you think it feels Zen?

These next photos are from The Back Country Quilters Quilt Show that was this weekend in Ramona, CA.  The quilts are hung fairly close together so it was difficult to get full quilt pictures.  I hope you enjoy the show as Darlene, Sue, and I did.

This quilt is made with Horse Show Ribbons as a keepsake for her daughter. Clever idea!

The stockings had fake fur on them!

Komfort Kove was in the show.  It is the second one in from the left.

This was my favorite display.  They were all doll quilts.
Let me close with my report for this the third week of October.

Sunday Stash Report, October 9, 2011

My Mom and Dad sure know how to put a smile on my face when selecting birthday gifts!  An added bonus is that gift fabric purchases don't get added to my stash report!  What more can be said about this except a big thank you!  My used this week comes from a back I put together for my Mom's charity quilt.  Kolonial is still yet to be counted and Katnip Krazy isn't too far behind.

Used this week: 5.25 yards
Used YTD: 197.75 yards
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 104 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2011: 93.75 yards

Today I'm getting done with the weekly chores, making a lemon cake that I'll serve with raspberries, and finding time to get in a swift walk on this beautiful crisp cool day in San Diego.  All of this must be done before we leave to join friends to watch the Chargers WIN...how's that for positive thinking?

I got Kalm back from Kerry's Quilting (pictures will come soon).  The quilting pattern really continues the feel of the quilt's design and the Zen feel of the colors.  Kalm is the quilt I took at a workshop on circles at Quilt in a Day in La Costa with JoAnn Lamb guiding us through her design What Goes Around.  I need to figure out what I have left for the binding.  Hopefully it's one of the tans although the pink could work too.

I do have lots of pictures to share with you from the first weekend in October.  It was a very quick viewing of the annual Temecula Outdoor Quilt Show.  It was a lovely day for it too.  The event is held in Old Town Temecula which is an area known for wineries and more currently olives.  Of course this means lots of taste testing spots for both wine and olive oil.  The quilts are hung all over town from the buildings and the businesses have a very profitable day selling their merchandise.  Quilters Coop was a must to visit and there is a wool shop that just opened up for a future trip.  The Show is held the first weekend of October.  Mark your calendar for next year.  Enjoy the pictures....

Hope your sewing week proves to be what you've set out to accomplish.  Or can find your way to getting lots of it done.  See how everyone else is doing with their stash at Patchwork Times.

Kalm
I've been busy this week!  Friday was my OFF Friday...my sewing studio was my haven for most of the day...YIPPEE.  I worked on Bonnie Hunter's Jamestown Landing which is still at the cutting stage, getting the binding sewn on to Komfort Kove to be ready for hand sewing during today's Charger's game, and finishing Kalm.  I also hand sewed in place two labels on Koasting and Komfort Kove.  I'll be helping my Mom with a label later today for one of her quilts.

Kerry and I are working on the September/October Bimonthly Opportunity Quilt for Sunshine Quilt Guild that is our contribution for this membership's year of fundraising efforts.  We are making Buggy Barn's Crazy Jacks.  Kerry will be sewing the candy corn border and I will sew the pumpkins.  I had three of the nine "Jacks" (pumpkins) already sewn before I started on Saturday; now all nine are done and ready to be squared up.  Kerry will be working on the candy corn during the week.

Speaking of squaring up.  Have you seen the Bloc Loc square up rulers?  The company makes them for HSTs and flying geese.  I listened to the excitement at Amidon's about them, watched the video...and decided I must have the HST rulers.  I purchased the set of three that included 2.5", 4.5", and 6.5".  I'll be purchasing the 3.5" when I can find it sold individually.  It comes in other sizes that include 1.5", 5.5", 9.5" and 12.5" I believe.  I'd like to check out the flying geese square up ruler too.  It could be as functional as the HST square ups are to me.

For this week I have the fabric used to make Kalm to claim.  Almost all of it from my stash.  I did purchase two pieces to fill in, but they didn't collect any wrinkles in my storage bins!

Used this week: 9 yards
Used YTD: 181.75 yards
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 94.25 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2011: 87.5 yards

I did purchase the Bloc Loc HST square up rulers...but we aren't counting gizmos...and I'm not going to start!

How did you do this week?

We've got a finish!  Kerry and I managed to beat the clock once again.  We finished the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA 25th Annual Fur Ball Fundraiser just today.   We call it Dancing With The Dogs which is the theme of this year's event that is being held on Saturday, August 20th.

This was Saturday at Kerry's sewing studio.  She's busy chatting with her Mom and quilting Dancing With The Dogs.  Yes, we both are multifunctional kinda gals!
The next couple of pictures are close ups.  We were a bit worried that this great stripe scrap (just perfect for this quilt) wouldn't be enough to get all the way around if we cut it on the bias.  We wanted the stripes moving to further the look of Snoopy dancing. Yeah, it did with 10" of binding left over.  We know how to calculate strips and the resulting yardage, but how do you do it when you cut on the bias?  (We just kept our fingers crossed--wink!)  The selvages were cut away, but 99.9% sure this cute dog theme fabric is by Michael Miller.  This fabric just makes me smile.

Kerry and I split the yardage for Dancing With The Dogs since we both used our stash for it.  My two purchases were at Amidon Quiltworks; 1/2 yard to finish up Kalm and the other 1 1/2 yards for Kooky Kins.  Both fabrics have already been used, but not quite ready to claim in my report...soon though!

Used this week: 7.25 yards
Used YTD: 172.75 yards
Purchased this week: 2 yards
Purchased YTD: 94.25 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2011: 78.5 yards

Sunday Stash Report, August 7, 2011

This week I've spent time on two different projects and some stash diving and cutting!

Nothing to report as used, but that will change soon since Kalm is coming together nicely. Oh, the .25 purchased is for more of the plum for border #3.

I'm going to split the used on the other project that I'm assembling with Kerry; the San Diego Humane Society's Fur Ball fundraiser.  You remember...Dancing with Snoopy?  I had that on my wall this past Monday.

My Stash work is for two projects I'll be working on soon both Bonnie Hunter projects; Jamestown Landing and Patches and Pinwheels.  Both of these patterns are from magazines (Australian Homespun and Quiltmaker September/October 2008).  I'm hoping the Patches and Pinwheels can be done for the Quilters Club of America Quiltmaker Show and Tell First Friday Contest for September or October.  Patches and Pinwheels also just happens to be one of my 2011 UFOs.

169 Pieces and 25 Sections! That's how complex the Iris block by Linda Causee (August 2011 Challenge) will be for the animal theme flower project that is Kourageous. I'll be getting to this soon too.

Design Wall Monday, July 25, 2011

Starting the last week of July 2011.  I've still several projects set as goals for 2011.  I really need to get busy!

Of course taking on the unexpected workshop doesn't help, but it was very informative.  The workshop was centered on circles.  I don't know about you, not one of my favorite styles of sewing.  I went with the hope of learning a thing or two to make circles something I didn't regret doing in a project.  Can't say that my mind was changed that much.  I did learn two things that makes the process a bit easier to achieve.

First have a stylus.  It's a tool that helps to pull and hold fabric.  In the case with the circles it helps pull the bottom fabric to meet the top fabric and avoid puckers.  I used the instructor's wood stylus and just loved it.  Quilt in a Day did have a metal stylus, but I ended up with a Clover awl instead.  The awl is very similar except that the tip is sharper then the wood stylus.  It does have a great handle just like the one on their seam ripper.  I'm on the hunt for a wooden stylus to include in my "tool box".

The second thing is to put the flat piece on the top of the piece that has to be eased in the most.  I'd always done this the opposite way so I could see the potential puckers, but as it turns out you have a tendency to want to manipulate the fabric too much.  You still need to pin (use five pins) starting from the center then both ends and then between these pins.  As long as you keep with the 1/4" seam those pesky puckers won't intrude into the stitching.  The stylus and the needle down also provide some extra holders.  I even got to the point of assembly line sewing.  Yep felt much more comfortable with the process at the end of the day.

I've got the borders to put on yet.  This is the class sample that I plan to use as well.  I've got enough of all the fabrics so I'm thinking I will use the three browns.  My project is very Zen like so I'm thinking it will be gifted to Tammy since she's got her bedroom decorated Zen.  Don't spill the beans.

So what's on your wall today?

Design Wall Monday, July 18, 2011

On my design wall, rather sewing cabinet... is my Pre Class Cutting and Sewing for the workshop I will be taking on Friday.  I am using cotton fabrics in colors inspired by a quilt kit I have been noticing in the Keepsake Quilting catalog for the past several issues.  Two of the four fabrics are from my stash and the other two were purchases at Amidon's (light taupe) and Memory Lane (plumb).

The workshop will be led by JoAnn Lamb at Quilt in a Day.  We will be making the pattern What Goes Around.  The challenging part of this class is learning how to sew the curves.  I am anxious to see another technique for circles.  There has to be one by someone that I will actually not mind doing.

I am also packing up my Pfaff to have it serviced tomorrow.  I have my Janome to use while its in the shop.  Paradise Sewing takes care of it very nicely and have been doing it for sometime now.  It should be gone for about a week.

So what's going on in your sewing room today?

Sunday Stash Report, July 17, 2011

My goal of last week has been achieved!  The pieced border fit just perfectly.  I love the results.  Kondor's Klutch (Bonnie Hunter's Hawk's Nest from her book Scraps and Shirttails II) will be on it's way to Kerry's Quilting as soon as arrangements can be made.  I'm so happy with the results.  My stash nearly provided all the fabrics for this project.

I'll spend some time today working on What Goes Around the workshop I'll be taking this Friday at Quilt in a Day with JoAnna Lamb.  My purchase this week was from Amidon Quiltworks.  Two yards of the light for this workshop and since I couldn't part with any of my cream batiks two FQs for Bunko this past Monday at Memory Lane Quilt Shop.

So for this week using my stash...it's been a good one!

Used this week: 16.5 yards
Used YTD: 144.25 yards
Purchased this week: 2.5 yards
Purchased YTD: 68.25 yards
Net Fabric Used in 2011: 76 yards

Bunko Winnings!

I was tied for biggest looser with Kerry.  You should have seen all the silver beads around our necks!  Since there needs to be only one 1st place looser and one 2nd place looser we had a roll of the dice for biggest number and I won, but just by one!  In four rounds of play we each had 14 losses.  Thanks Memory Lane and the Bunko Gals of last night.  I had a very good time.

Here's my winnings!  4 Creams, 4 Reds and 5 Blues.  Now what to do with these?

Next month's Bunko Night is August 1st.  The anty will be six Batik FQs in the colors Purple and Teal plus $2.  If I go, which I'm hoping to, I'll be sure to bring a goodie to share.  It isn't part of the anty, but sure was nice during our intermission to snack on a cookie (the peanut butter chip were awesome).

I did find time during that intermission to find fabric I had to have.  I had a gift certificate in hand that worked out just perfect.  When I left Memory Lane not only did I have my winnings but a piece needed to finish the supply list for a workshop I'll be taking at Quilt in a Day next Friday along with three yards of a deep chocolate brown that's sure to be in a scrappy project I'll take on by Bonnie Hunter or Judy Laquidara.  These two are always coming up with something I want to make.

Thanks everyone for wishing me a lucky BUNKO night!

Tim doing Vanna White!  I believe he's taking "ownership" of Kondor's Klutch...he is certainly in rare form today...

This is what's left to sew for the borders.  I discovered that I didn't have enough HSTs :(!  You can see the small stack of neutrals queued up and ready for more assembly line sewing.  The strips on the left are nearly three of the four borders ready for final assembly.  The top and bottom are 28 rows of three HSTs with a triangle of cheddar on either side.  The sides are 33 rows of the same.  Not counting the corner sections and left border pieces we're talking 366 HSTs in the four borders.  I'm in the final chapters of this project.

On to the next project...I need to get everything together for a workshop that I'll be taking at Quilt in a Day next Friday.  There is some prep work involved.  Cutting and sewing four patches.  This workshop involves CURVES!

I'm hoping to come home with some great batiks winning big at Bunko later tonight.  Check out other Design Walls from quilters around the globe at Patchwork Times!  Have a great week.
