Kaskade, 2011 UFO

My design wall is just getting started with Kaskade.  This is a design by Deb Luttrell called Ice Castles.  It was featured in McCall's Quilting in their February 2009 magazine.  There are 28 "snowball" blocks and 28 "star" blocks.  I have to search my stash for more of the neutral fabric for the "star" blocks.  Kaskade will be a somewhat controlled scrappy project with the "snowball" block using the same neutral.  All sorts of possibilities ahead for a quilting pattern that will show up in the 9 1/2" centers.  The inner border will be pieced using the same fabrics as the "snowballs" and "stars" along with a very dark green.  That same dark green will be the last border.  Deb's design has a third border that she suggests be neutral, but I'm planning to keep the size a little bit smaller by eliminating it.  This will end up being a 16" reduction all the way around.  More to come on this as the week progresses.  It would be great to hear what you think...

Very pretty. Are the prints all tonal? Are there any batiks? I enlarged the photo, but couldn't discern those things for sure.

Looking good. I like your plan and colors. You are brave to do one with that much quilting space.
