Design Wall Monday, June 16, 2014

Didn't get much further on Kolumbia yesterday.  I did add the setting triangles and corners to the design wall.  I should be putting this together the first few days of this week.
These scraps are blue, brown, and neutral that I plan to use for Smith Morning Mountain.  I will need to do a second sort to match up the right shades of all the colors...but this is a start.
Finally I get to show Kontimplate.  This is the project that I created for the Whisper Challenge.  If you follow the yellow cards below you'll see where my group started.  Boy was I way off!  The purple cards follow a photograph that didn't make it into the picture :(.
Then there is the green, pink, and blue groups.  Everyone enjoyed the experience even if they didn't end up coming anywhere close to the beginning.
There is a retreat in my week's itinerary.  More on that the next time.  Enjoy your week and see what everyone else is sewing at Patchwork Times.

Krackerjack and Kooter Klan
I am still busy working on Krackerjack.  It is Star Fusion by BlocLoc.com.  It seems to be a little difficult to find, but it is available online and maybe your local quilt shop if they are selling the fabulous rulers they manufacture.  I've started sewing each row together...notice how much the seams draw the project together?  That top row looks like something is drastically wrong!  I did run out of two fabrics while putting this project together.  I've been able to bounce back with my stash and the ability to do it is made easier since the fabrics were both black and white designs.  Besides the background that I purchased in January all of this is from my stash.  There is one more border that is predominately white that may or may not be added...we'll see.  Oh in case you are wondering that's Kooter Klan on the top right waiting for applique time.  It is a design by Karen Brow of javahousequilts.com called Newly Hatched.
For June Sunshine Quilters BOM Sherri has coordinated a calendar quilt project.  It is designed by Jennifer Bosworth of ShabbyFabrics.com.  You can see I have July to sew up.  The doily (outside border) is accomplished with a single hole puncher.  Do you have one of these? DeLinda says she has one that I can borrow.  I hope she remembers to bring it with her tomorrow.  Sunshine meets in just over a week and I haven't even started.  Oh, Bonnie Sue...I'm finished with my Whisper Challenge...ready for the big reveal!

Today is the 52Quilts.com UFO Parade.  I have Koliding Krosses as my May finish.  If you have time, check out the parade Aunt Marti puts together on the first day of the month.  Aunt Marti also pulls the next month's project to work on (#10) and mine is the miniature Scrappy Star Quilt shown on the bottom right.  I have already figured out it's name!  How about Kolumbia?  It finishes at 48" square and was designed by Wendy Gilbert of Morning Star Designs.  Fabrics haven't been chosen yet, so who knows what will come out of my stash!
Konqueror
Last to share is Konqueror complete.  This project came from a workshop I took in September of last year from Joyce Weeks of geoffsmompatterns.com.  Joyce calls her design Survivors.  It seems I don't usually select feathers as a quilting design, but this time I did.  The photograph doesn't do this quilt justice.  It is in grays, blacks, purples, and a grayish neutral.  The quilting thread is purple.  You'd see it very differently if you had it in your hands.

Lot's of projects going on, but no yardage came in or left my sewing room.  Maybe next week Krackerjack will be a finish...certainly the BOM and the Whisper Challenge fabrics will take something off.  Enjoy the month of June!

Krazy Krones
I'm working on Krazy Krones among several other projects :).  Krazy Krones needs the swoosh between the star and the tip of the hat on each of the eight witches.  I have six of them done right now.  I'm using either gold or black pearl cotton thread depending on what background the witch has.  The gray one in the photo will probably be gold.  This project is the last of my Buggy Barn designs needing to be finished.  I have some leftover blocks from Krazy Kattle and Krazy Krones that I plan to make into small wall hangings.  I'm waiting on Julanne now for the next cute project to be instructed.
Kranberries
I have three projects to turn over to Kerry when I see her on Friday.  Kranberries (aka Talkin Turkey by Bonnie Hunter), Koliding Krosses (aka Earth and Sea by Cheryl Malkowski), and my Whisper Challenge project with Sunshine Quilters.  I will be sharing what's in that green bag after the June 10th reveal...

Koliding Krosses
Whisper Challenge
I have some free sewing time left this month before the next UFO is announced; think I might pick up Krackerjack (aka Star Fusion by Jana Thomas).  I haven't had opportunity to work on it since January.  I'm real anxious to see this project finish.

This is the wall hanging from Newly Hatched pattern by Karen Brow.  I took a workshop with her and members of Sunshine Quilt Guild on Saturday to learn Karen's techniques.  There is a juvenile turtle to be done that will sit above and to the left of mama turtle.  I'm prepping the applique pieces right now.  I really enjoy Karen's workshop.  If you have a chance check out her patterns at Java House Quilts.  I'm hoping to have the juvenile done for Tuesday's monthly meeting where all the students will be sharing their project.  Anyone have an idea on a "K" name for my turtle project?

I know you want to see more, but it just can't be done...  Here's just a small porting of my Whisper Challenge project.  It's due at the June 10th meeting.  I'm anxious to see how my interpretation of the photograph everyone started with plays out.  There will be sharing after June 10th!

This is Koliding Krosses.  I have all the pieces made.  Time for putting the blocks together and then the rows.  I'm right on track for an end of the month finish.

Happy Mother's Day!  I hope you have treated your Mom right and for you that are Mom's your children are making a fuss over you.  My brother and sister and I treated our Mom extra special starting on Wednesday and culminating with telephone calls today.  Karen found time on Saturday to take Mom out to lunch and spend some time at a fabric shop.  Wish I could have joined them, but 3,000 miles separate us.  Mike is separated by 850 miles too or he'd have joined us at least for lunch.  Mom knows we think of her always.  She's the best!  Soon she will be here visiting just a few short weeks away now.  I'm pretty anxious for Mom HUGS!

These are my purchases this week.  All five fabrics are 1/4 yard cuts.  Two different projects needed just a bit more to complete them.  The blue is for my May UFO that I'm calling Koliding Krosses.  I am at the point with it where the blocks and rows need to be sewn together.  Perhaps today will see it finish into a top.  It would be nice to finish ahead of schedule.  Like to get the projects with deadlines complete so I don't feel pressured.  The three remaining fabrics are for my turtle wall hanging.  I took a class with Karen Brow yesterday at Paradise Sewing in Poway.  I want to work on this a bit today.  Everyone who took the class will be sharing on Tuesday at Sunshine Quilt Guild meeting.

Then there's the Whisper Challenge project I'm working on.  And the cutting of Scrap Crystals for an October workshop with Bonnie Hunter adds to the business of my sewing room.  See what others have been doing with their stash through the links at Patchwork Times.  Have a wonderful day!

This is as much as I am going to let you see.  Progress on my Whisper Challenge project....

I will share my design wall.  Koliding Krosses is coming along very well.  I want to add in another dark.  I am thinking about a solid or one that reads that close.  So far all of these fabrics are from my stash.  I think the fabric I have in mind...if I can find it...will be what my #9 UFO needs.  I share the designer/pattern information here.  There is no border to be added.  I have enough of he dark blue print that is in the blocks now for the binding.  This month's project has been quick to assemble.

See other projects through the many links today at Patchwork Times.

Sunday Stash Report, May 4, 2014

I am using up my stash, but not ready for any used statistics to change quite yet.  The photo above goes to the Whisper Challenge project I'm working on.  Certainly I can't tell you more!
These fabrics will be for my May UFO.  You can check out #9 UFO to see the design.  The coral and ivory will be my pop colors to float through the middle.  I may need to dig a little deeper in my stash or I'll just end up making the quilt a bit smaller.
These last group of fabrics is for a workshop I will be taking on Saturday.  It will be at Paradise Sewing in Poway with Karen Brow.  I'll be making the cute wall hanging; mother turtle and her youngster.  I do need to add in a white and turquoise dot to this collection for the turtle's tummys.

Hope you are enjoying your Sunday.  See what others have been doing with their stash through the links at Patchwork Times.

I'd like to share with you the Whisper Challenge project that I am working on, but it is a secret.  Just know that I'm working on something pretty crazy...  It is what is on my design wall right now.

For those (including me until this challenge) who don't know what a Whisper Challenge is all about let me try to explain.  All the quilters who want to participate in the challenge are split into equal groups.  Next the quilters of each group are assigned a position.  The quilter in the first position in each group receives a photograph from the coordinator.  That quilter has to create a mini quilt that is an interpretation of the photograph.  That quilt along with the photograph goes back to the coordinator who removes the photograph and sends the completed mini quilt on to the second position quilter who will create a mini quilt that is an interpretation of the first quilters mini quilt.  And so it goes to the next quilter.  The whole idea is like the "telephone game" we used to play as kids growing up where the story changes as its told each time.  At the conclusion of the challenge the photograph and every mini quilt will be shared.  I'm sure there are lots of surprises ahead.  Oh and each quilter gets to keep the mini create they created.  The quilts size can range from 12" to 16" on a side and can be irregular too.  I happen to be the last of four in my group so I wonder how far from the photograph mine will end up...

Kottontails
38" x 47"
I have Kottontails to share with you.  I just finished the binding, sleeve, and adding all the buttons to give them eyes as well as dress up their chests a bit.  This very cute bunny quilt will be gracing my home next Easter.  It is a Buggy Barn design called Bunny Trail from the Stir Crazy book.  I'm hopeful the next Buggy Barn design I will be working on is Crazy as a Bird Dog.  Wait till you hear the "K" name my Sister came up with for it.

Take time to visit Judy's Patchwork Times to see many other great projects from quilters from all everywhere.  Have a great last week of April and first week of May!

Design Wall Monday, April 21, 2014

On my Design Wall today is Kranberries.  I have been sewing pretty steadily this weekend.  I have the first border of flying geese sewn in place.  Next is the string border.  I have all the string sections sewn; only need to measure for size and sew in place.  The last border of flying geese is sewn too; it will be next.  It is coming together pretty quick now.  I won't be able to get this one off the floor.  The string and flying geese section that is on the far right goes on the bottom...wow this is one big project.  It was great having the strings and nine patches done in the most recent swap.
This project has to be kept in the bag!  It is a secret...  Anyone ever done a Whisper Challenge?  I have a plan in mind.  I will be starting this project as soon as Kranberries is done!

Enjoy your week!  More to see through the links at Patchwork Times.
