Design Wall Monday, October 20, 2025

 

You may remember Katniss.  It came back to me from Kerry last week.  It is so pretty =^.^=  I am busy working on the binding, sleeve, and label.

This doesn't look like much yet.  It is the Fancy Feathers Table Runner that I participated in a workshop this past Saturday.  There is still much to do on the birds.  Each will have very wild head feathers.  I should have something more substantial to share with this project on Wednesday.

Sunday Stash Report, October 19, 2025

 

It has been a busy week with sewing.  Tim wants to know when he will see me next :).  I am thrilled to have Krowkissed done!  This project was a big one indeed.  Once quilted there will be hours spent on all the buttons that finish it off.  It along with a few other projects will be with USPS tomorrow.

I have two adds to this week's stash report.  The first one I've been waiting forever, the back for Kluster (aka Gleaming).  The FQs might just end up as a puppy.  I picked up from Pam the last two backgrounds that I will be making.  These two backgrounds are the lighter shade of blue.  The finish of Krowkissed will offset these purchases somewhat.

These are the first parts of Home for the Holly Days.  Now that Krowkissed has moved off the Design Wall I'll be filling it up with this project and Scatter Garden.  The 100 Houses (aka Kottages) is still on the wall waiting for its picket fence.

Wednesday Workings, October 15, 2025

This is just one of the several projects that I am working on.  It is a UFO for me this year.  I love this project.  Any idea what the project is and its designer.  I know Pam D will know because she made one.  We got them at the same time, but darn she beat me to finishing her Scatter Garden by Kim Diehl.  The pattern is made in "Installments" for a block of the month (if you want it that way).  I have the entire project pattern and fabrics.  So my plan is to just work through it along with other projects.

This is Installment 1.  A bunch of tiny pieces =^.^=  I'd be happy just to continue through, but want to get started on a couple other project already cut.  Installment 2 will have to wait.  Home for the Holly Days is cut through two months with the third to arrive any day now.  This one is also inspired by Pam D.  Jennifer, Pam, and I will be making this project.  It is the next one to stitch.  I have the 2025 Spooky Box (Pumpkin Sitting) partially cut out...the background is next to cut.  I want to work on this one at Rosie's on Friday.

I couldn't share this small wall hanging until now because it was my Fall/Halloween Exchange Gift.  I was one of seven at Sunshine Quilt Guild October monthly meeting who joined in on the fun.  It was to be not valued over $30.  The exchange was done to a Left-Right Halloween story.  I'm not sure what "story" Pam told us.  You can find stories on the internet just search for left right game stories.  Many of the stories are free or on ETSY for a small amount.  Here is how it works.

The "left right game" for Halloween is a story telling game where players sit in a circle and pass an object, like candy or a gift, to the left or right depending on the word spoken in a pre-selected story.  The person holding the object at the end of the story wins a prize. It's an interactive and suspenseful game suitable for parties, classrooms, or family gatherings.

This is the gift I ended up with at the end of the game.  Only a Quilter would understand the metal sign :)  Thanks Kathy B for some fun and useful goodies.

Karen Brow Meier was our speaker.  We were lucky to have her as she will be retiring at the end of the year.  I had purchased two of her patterns previously and made one of them (Kooter Klan).  The other pattern is a mermaid which is a bit intimidating, but have no fear...I will get to it!

Karen brought some patterns and Cat Academy had to come home with me.  This one is even more intimidating.  It is done as a block of the month too.  She had two gifts to offer to the membership.  The winners were birthday related.  One member had a birthday that day and I had the one closest to last night, but not forward on the calendar than last night.

This was my prize.  A nice short stack of red/pink batiks and a needle threader.  Thank you Karen!

You might say it was my night to win.  I won one of three door prizes.  Didn't catch who the sponsor of it was, but hopefully I can find out and thank them.

This is the block of the month offered, a maple leaf.  It is coordinated by Gina who also provided a background with instructions for us to make it with batiks.

The puppy blocks were adorable.  I didn't count how many were turned in, maybe twenty?  A few are outstanding and these two are the only ones left to make.  I happily took them to finish.  Pam D has a setting in mind.  Lorna is working on who might be interested in using the completed quilt as a fundraiser.  We are hoping Rady's Childrens Hospital Therapy Program will be interested.

Design Wall Monday, October 13, 2025

Koxcomb is simply gorgeous.  Thank you Kerry for being such a wonderful friend.  I have the binding and sleeve stitched down.  Will add the label when I have enough for a full sheet of the label "fabric paper".  It is too expensive to not wait because then it won't work right through the printer.  The middle design is done in wool.  I used the leftover HST on the sleeve.  Tiny HST that finish at 1/2".

These are the Holiday table runners made for Summers Past Farms event in December.  Sunshine Quilters will have a booth there with many beautiful items for purchase.  I will be traveling during that time so I am busy now to get my donations done.  I also have microwave popcorn bags made.

Sunshine Quilt Guild meets tomorrow and there is a load items already in my trunk.  Looking forward to our speaker, Karen Brow Mieser, as well as all my quilting sisters.  Still working on the sashing of Krowkissed.  Perhaps there will be a complete top to share with you on Wednesday.

Sunday Stash Report, October 12, 2025

 

Finally at the sashing part of this project.  Krowkissed isn't too far away from complete now!  I'm so anxious to be finished with this one.

Can you tell the difference (no counting the sashing) between the first and second photos?  Well guess no more I'll give you two hints.  Tails and straw, just two of the several blocks that had stitchery embellishments.  The rest of the embellishments, oodles of buttons, will be put on after the quilting.  I don't think I'd be a friend to Kerry if I put them on now =^.^=

Saturday brought me lots of fun stuff from Kerry for my birthday.  

These items were mostly collected during her recent road trip.  The thread is something on the list of supplies for our RD2CA workshop.  I'll be sharing another part of my gift tomorrow...it comes with a WOW!

There is more to share tomorrow from my very busy quilting week.  As for stash changes, there is some.  The back came in for Home for the Holly Days.  Still looking for the USPS delivery of Gleaming's back.  I also made several more table runners for Summers Past Craft Fair that takes place in December.

Wednesday Workings, October 8, 2025

I had to work on something for the Halloween season =^.^=  It is when cats are so plentiful along with pumpkins of course.  Under A Spell was a door prize that I won at the retreat in May.  It went together very quick.  The orange around the larger panel is a flat pipping.  This same orange flat pipping will go on the outside border after quilting and before the binding is sewn in place.  Yes all blocks start off as panels.  There are a few of the smaller panels leftover.  I'll have to see what I can do with them and the scraps from the entire project.

Krowkissed has two more leaves/petals to applique down.  I was a bit disappointed that the two dark leaves/petals just above the vase were appliqued too low.  I had to take them off and reposition.  I'm happy with the result.  The leaves/petals had placements very close to each other.  You wouldn't know it but on the bottom of each side of the vine there is one less leaf/petal because I just couldn't squeeze them in!

Continuing to get all the other little projects done to send a box of tops to Kerry!  Hope you have a great day and the rest of your week.

Design Wall Monday, October 6, 2025

If you saw yesterday's post notice the progress made through the day.  Just seven leaves left that are prepared to finish.  Once they are done, tonight's football game will do it, the top of the vase and two more leaves that lap over it to go.  Looking like this block might get finished tonight =^.^=

Although I didn't work on assembly yet Instalment 1 of Scatter Garden is cut and waiting for its time under the sewing machine needle.  I also have Month 1 and Month 2 of Home For The Holly Days cut and in the queue for the sewing machine.  Pam mentioned that Month 3 is shipping this week.  I'd love to get started on the sewing of these projects.  Need to finish a couple that are further along before they are up.

Shabby Fabrics has my order for the back of Home For The Holly Days as well as the Teflon Pressing Sheet needed for Kottages's picket fence construction.  On a second order with Shabby Fabrics is the back for Gleaming.  Maybe I'll see these delivered this week.  The Gleaming back is the only thing that is holding me back before mailing three tops to Kerry for quilting.

The 2025 Jolly Box from Fat Quarter Shop is reserved for me.  Not sure when this will ship, but I'm not twiddling my fingers and thumbs during this wait =^.^=  I'm planning to pause on these mystery shipments after this one.

I am so anxious to see Krowkissed done!  That's it for me this first Design Wall post of October.

Sunday Stash Report, October 5, 2025

Let me start with Krowkissed progress.  I'm just about halfway done with this Crows and Vines block.  I'm working on this today during football games.  

I started off with these fabrics for the holiday table runner that I will be donating to the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) 221 Holiday Fundraiser Basket.  The second photo is adding in a couple more lights and most importantly the red and white stripe inner border and binding fabric.

I was able to finish the table runner that will be off to Kerry for quilting.  It will be included in a basket filled with a holiday meal fit for a King!  Someone is going to be a lucky winner.  Tickets for the basket can be had from Betty Delman or Kathy Owens in the Avenue, Maryland area if you are interested.  (The outside stripe piece represents the binding that will go on after quilting.)

I plan to make a couple more of these table runners for the Summers Past Farm event in early December in the San Diego, California area where the Sunshine Quilt Guild will have a booth.  So if you didn't win the one in Maryland there's a chance for purchasing one in California.  I'll be posting photos soon of the two that will be for sale supporting the Sunshine Quilt Guild.

I have a another finish to share.  Gleaming finished; from the 2025 Liberty Box by Fat Quarter Shop.  No name selected yet to represent my "K".  I am waiting on the backing to arrive.  I purchased one of the white prints, the one that looks like fireworks, for the back.  The dark blue star will be its binding.

I pulled fabrics for the Karen Brow Meiser Fancy Feathers Bird Topper workshop that will be held on 10/18.  The Purple row of fabrics will make up the birds.  I purchased three different sizes of the black and white stripe so that I can audition for the best when the project comes together.

On Friday I started working on a Halloween project.  I'm going to call this one Kreepy Kats, Krows, and Klaws (Under A Spell by Jennifer Pugh).  Pulled this together from words captured in the panel.  The now framed panel pieces need to be trimmed down.  It gets an orange inner border and a very appropriate outer border.  Coming together just perfect.

These were jumping into my hands at Rosie's.  I really like Kai scissors.  I can send Kai scissors to Kai for sharpening, but this takes awhile.  It is faster to have a few pairs of scissors in the wings.  I also got a birthday gift for my sister that I won't share.  Her birthday is Tuesday so hopefully USPS Priority mailed tomorrow will get it there quickly.  Hey, it isn't like we are kids having it there for the big day =^.^=

My last purchase from Rosie's is the fabrics and double sided fusible needed for the picket fence.  I'm getting to a Krowkissed finish so I'll need to have on hand what's needed to finish Kottages.

Saturday I spent the day making pet beds for shelters.  The group, Kennel Komforters, meets the first weekend of the month at the Palomar Animal Shelter.  There is usually ten or so on both Friday and Saturday.  They support seven North County Animal Shelters making around 62 beds each month with distributions to all seven shelters.  

My damage from Rosie's makes Gleaming and the ALA table runner important to count as used!  Want that 2025 net used number to be BIG.  Fortunately, I don't have my online purchases in hand to count this week!

Wednesday Workings, October 1, 2025

I am moving right along with Krowkissed.  The wings are in place, the lower two flowers have the receptacle in place, and a few of the 42 leaves that will be attached to the vine are in place.  All ready for another evening of applique.  This project is moving right along =^.^=

I did cut out the first two months of Home for the Holly Days.  Month three of this BOM from Fat Quarter Shop (a Kim Diehl design) will be here anytime now.  I hope to sew the two months at Rosie's this Friday.  I did order from Shabby Fabrics the back for Home for the Holly Days.  

I am hoping to get the first month of Scatter Garden cut before Friday as well.  I have everything needed for this Kim Diehl design.

I ordered also from Shabby Fabrics a Teflon Pressing Sheet for the picket fence of 100 Houses.  It does not take much fabric for the picket fence, but I will need some muslin if I can't find it in my stash.  

The picket fence is constructed as a sandwich with layers of picket fence fabric, double sided fusible, muslin, and double sided fusible.  It is cut and assembled on the border fabric then attached to the 100 houses.  My border fabric will be a light to medium blue representing daytime.

Gleaming is coming along nicely too.  I have up to the last border sewn together.  I tried to have it done for a photo, but the cook of the house needs to make dinner!  I will be sharing a photo on Sunday Stash Report day.  It needs a "K" name.  I have done so many patriotic projects that coming up with another patriotic name will be a challenge.  Perhaps I can pull a "K" name from my Spanish learned so far.  Well my friends any suggestions?

If this is not enough than why not one more project...  Karen Brow Meier workshop is coming up fast on October 18th.  I need to pull fabrics for this one called Fancy Feathers Bird Topper.  I plan to use my Batiks.  This is the first workshop offered by Sunshine Quilt Guild for the new membership year.  I have done one of Karen's many projects and have a pattern for another.  I know she will give a great workshop.

Oh and did I talk about the December holiday table runner for the America Legion Auxiliary Holiday Raffle Basket that is due to them at the beginning of November?  Guess I need to focus on this one =^.^=
